100k what would you do with it?

High risk investment!

VENTURE CAPITAL :)

My wife did that with our change from our wedding 3yrs back, I cannot believe how much she made in the first 2yrs.

She went from not enough money to go on a descent honeymoon to being able to but our son through private school.

Not at all bluno i am just looking for ways to turn money into more money faster than putting it in a bank account :D

cbrunsdonza sounds good man :D

Nothing wrong with that sentiment but I think your expectations are a little unrealistic.

Bear in mind you are dealing with a risk versus reward see saw here. You will need to increase your risk dramatically if you are searching for the returns you are after (but you'll still battle to get those you are after). So the question that should follow is how concerned would you be if after three years you were sitting with only R20,000 left due to the losses you made?

I deposited some money in an SAFEX broking account, and with the structures they have in places, there's really almost no risk at all, since your position is hedged. And you can get 'n fairly good return.
It wasn't enough to trade in some shares effectively though, but if I had the money I would have gone the equity route.

Well lance i would rather be left with 20k trying to make money than go blow it on crap i don't need if you know what i mean.

I don't mind if the growth takes longer than my OP just as long as it does not take the same time as slapping it in a bank account :D. Risk is no problem, obviously going and putting 100k on red type risk is not what i am looking for. Medium risk medium reward type thing.

Funker you got a contact there? Sounds like something interesting. I know pretty much nothing about this sort of thing but from what i can tell my expectations are slightly high :D.

SAFEX would be the Equity Derivatives route.
Or you buying up maize futures?

With that kind of money on hand, think long term.

Pay off all your short term high interest debt first (credit cards, store accounts, etc)
Put the remainder into your bond
Look at your credit card and store account and what you were paying in towards them over the last year. Decide on a percentage that you could save - go buy satrix shares online with the monthly debit order.

I am giving you advice that I took personally (when my trust fund was released) and it has worked out great. I bought satrix shares on their IPO and used a debit order thereafter. The shares grew to be enough to pay off our principal homeloan.

Now I use it as a vehicle to save up for yearly overseas holidays.

Contact a professional financial broker rather than seeking unverified financial advice on a public forum.
If you need a good contact I can put you in touch with someone very experienced in Joburg.

Yes, I have an agricultural SAFEX broking account. Invested in maize (moslty , but also sunflower and grain).

Don't worry Gary, I'll give legit contacts (he can verify and check it out) ;)

*edit* Alright, well, www.fsmaize.co.za . My father is MD of the company, so that's the main reason why I'm doing my business there.

Isn't the average return on a SATRIX share really low because it is quite a safe bet?

SATRIX isn't a share.
They are a company who create tracker funds which track an Index (Like the All share, Gold index etc.)
It's the same as investing in a unit trust, except SATRIX try to match the benchmark instead of outperform it.

I thought you said he should not take advice (in any form) from posters on a public forum? :)

However good, that is hardly an objective criteria for doing business with someone or recommending him to others. The performance of the company should rather speak for itself.

Pretty much yeah. Technically its an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF).

Shares in McDonalds. People are getting dumber and fatter. It's the sad truth, might as well make something out of it.
