100k what would you do with it?

What Blu said is probably the best. You can save lots on future expenditures by paying off debt now.

If the OP has a home loan, he'd even be able to calculate with a a fair amount of accuracy how much he will save in the long run by paying off a big chunk of capital if he dumps the R100K in the loan account.

No i have no bond nor do i have car repayments, paid it off last year. Just looking for something to make that money grow instead of doing my normal thing and wasting it on pc's, tv's etc.

Yeah, then go for shares. Satrix or DIY portfolio. Not less than 20k per share or the fees will nail you.

I think the recommend mix for someone your age is like 60 share, 30 interest bearing and 10 cash.

Buy Satrixraf on the downside. You can buy directly from the Satrix website or from a broker. Why I say RAF is because they are the top 40 Co's with the best fundamentals and will outperform any managed fund by far due to the management fees. Not today though. Gone up 1.9%. Check on www.sharenet.co.za and input "stxraf" in the search block and keep checking daily until it drops by about 1.5%, then buy.

That's a good call, but it won't give him the return he's after though...

100k to 300K in 3 years is only possible with extreme luck. Better option would be to get into equities i.e. pick good blue chip stocks and invest in these. Perhaps wait till things settle down a bit. Market are still very nervous about debt levels in Europe.

I know this may seem ignorant but could i invest it in gold? Could i see those kinds of returns if gold were to go up by say 100-200 dollars in the next 2 years?

No... the money market is very volatile... and is regarded as a high risk sector. You would do just as well gambling it away.

That is quite a sweeping statement to make and it would be interesting to challenge you to back that up with some facts.

I would piss it all away to be honest... in a weekend. No point in using a windfall for anything else.
