1024k ADSL available tomorrow

i just want to check i got this straight they are going to be charging R680.00 rental per month for a 1Mbps ADSL line with a 3Gb cap but then how much more do will it be per Gig there after ?
When you can get a 512Kbps Line with a 30 Gb Cap for R477

I have to disagree here - there are many reasons to offer 56k dial up accounts. For one broadband (or narrowband like the 192 to 384 connections) isnt readily available outside of metropolitan areas. Many people simply dont need a permanent connection which costs more than the dial up account.Noble_Nanobot said:

Its odd how telkom is allowed to use the high costs of their internet products to justify and promote the supposedly inexpensive yet vastly inferior products they offer. Cant afford real broadband because we charge you too much?? Then why not try our relatively inexpensive 192 homeDSL? DLS is supposed to be broadband not these ridiculous speeds.

And then THEY HAVE THE NERVE to make it more expensive. Everywhere... literally everywhere else in the world the prices are dropped when a higher speed is introduced, i.e. : 512 is bumped up to 1024, 384 - 512, 192 - 384 while still paying the same price p/m.

Andre, why you going for it? Is this a case of continous lifestyle upgrading so that you can never actually save money? Doesn't work for me. Btw, will you promise us you will not complain about the per GB charges from 1 November then?Andre said:

Does it really matter why he's going for it? If he can afford it - why not. Unfortunately I can’t afford it, but if I could - who knows maybe I would have gone for it too...

But I must say I have my doubts about this new 1024. Telkom can’t even provide us with a decent 512. Once you have it Andre - let us know if it's worth upgrading.

Why am I going for it?
1. Because I want it.
2. I can afford it.
3. I don't use much bandwidth but when I do use it I want stuff to download quickly.

I can afford it. But I won't get it. It's bad enough that Telkom forced me to take it up the ass from them everyday, without offering to give them a BJ afterwards.
Instead I'll go back to dreaming of headlines I'd like to see ....

I cant afford it and if i could i dont think i would but then i think if more people get 1024 will the price come down LOL i kill me i dont think so so if less people get 1024 will the price come down then (I dont know) who knows what Telkom are up to, ripping us all off

Placed my order at about 1pm today - and was told activation would take 48hrs to a week. Order actually went smoothly, lady at the other end was quite clued in.
Won't get into the debate about whether it's affordable or not - it's meaningless since we all agree that ADSL in South Africa is over-priced, else we wouldn't be here.
