1024k ADSL available tomorrow

Agreed richard. It's disgusting.

I was in Paris last week, and on the Metro I saw an advert for free.fr's DSL2+ service:
- 20Mbit down/10Mbit up uncapped, unshaped DSL2+
- free wireless router that also acts as a hardware media player unit
- phone service with free metropolitan calls
- 200 tv channels, 100+ of which are digital

all for .... 29.99 Euros per month (about R250). I almost cried.
 
Eish.. we can at the moment dream to have prices like that.. but with innovation and dedication those 'in power' can come up with a crafty solution. Speed is easily achieved, it costs so little these days what with the cost of fibre, equipment and layout - its the extra charges such as interconnection etc that confuddle everything.

It can be done tho. The technology is there, the prices are right.. *sigh* all we need is someone who can do something about it. Someone with decent ideas!

It's like having a car with a petrol hungry V8 engine but you can only use 30 liters of petrol with it for the whole month.
 
3 Gig ADSL at R 1030 a month !!!! a bargain....

The total ‘standard’ cost for the HomeDSL 1024 will sit at around R 940-00 if you use a standard 3 Gig TelkomInternet ISP account.

plus 90 Rand Landline Rental = 1030 Rand/monthRIDICULOUS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and you blow away your 3 gig in NO Time !!!!!!!! :mad:

Just phoned telkom to request an upgrade to 1024. After checking the site and seeing it will cost 680 I did not think it was that bad since I was already paying them 477.

The response I got from telkom was:

"Err, err it is not really available now, it is just been advertised, maybe at the end of the year or maybe sooner, I am not sure"

OMG??? Why advertise it will be available 1 Sep??

Idiots.
 
I've just called 0800dsldsl as well.

Q: What is the upgrade procedure?
A: (after 3 mins to check with colleague) The price of the service and other details are private and confidential at the moment.

Q: ermm...What you mean private and confidential?? It's on your website's front page as R680
A: We have been told that this might change and to take customers' details to contact them back

Ok ... just phoned them.

It is avaliable, but it requires a 21 day testing period.

I just laughed at the guy, called him a wa**er, waited for a response (which was a mumbled "um") and hung up the phone.
 
Too Expensive.

Telkom should make a proper announcement then and clear up the speculation.

I hope the reason the new service is being withheld is due to the ICASA Complaint and that the whole pricing model is being reviewed.
In my situation I rather downgraded from 512 to 384 to save money.
I certainly am not going to spend one more cent on an already overpriced product.

Do you really want to browse and download e-mail at 1024k, why not just go for a slower package then?
Please don't view this as a flame, I just don't agree with the reasoning.
 
Telkom have gone completely bonkers! A 1mbps line with a 3GB for over R1000 a month. C'mon ICASA, this is daylight robbery.

The cost of the "Proposed" new ADSL 1Mbps product with 3GB cap is almost DOUBLE the price of iBurst (more stable, maybe). WTF, I thought fixed wire services where ment to be CHEAPER than wireless technologies...

Also about the download life is that not abuse cause the things I have done in my life are more than 3gbs :)

Exactly what i'm thinking. In fact browsing and surfing only need 192k. If you have more users on your lan who simutaneously require internet access to alot of content then perhaps increase line speed a bit. I think the 1MB line will be more for SME and the downloaders or Internet cafe's. no offfense though it just looks to me like a waste of money for just surfing and email. :o
 
I remember when i started on the internet just surfing and sending mail and all i needed was a 36k dail-up modem but what i would like to know is how many hours of battlefield 2 can i play a month now with a 3Gb cap
 
I agree, faster line requires directly higher cap. It goes hand on hand, the point of faster line is to accompany more users at the same time more easily, which reflects more bandwidth usage.
