I have it installed now. Get between 200Mbps and 380Mbps. They suggest having it near a window for best reception. Going to fiddle tomorrow with positioning it better.

Hi

Can you let us know the model number of the router that Rain has provided you with for 5g ?

I assume it is a Huawei router ?

Does the router have ports for an external antenna installation ?

Thank you

Came to my house this morning, coverage sucked, so left, only got 70Mb. Said they might come back next week, check things, try things, or wait for roll out, so no idea, could be next week, could be 2 years. Sucks big time!

Picks up 5G, tower is not even 1km from house, so yeah dunno. Tried different rooms etc. Will see if they try anything. Soooo f'ing irritated, fiber in this area is also not really an option. well supposed to be active, but no one ever gets back to me, so thought this would be brilliant. Anyway, back to ADSL and f'ing caps and crap.

External antenna might be a solution.

But will LTE antennas work with 5G?

Well you would need to look at the Frequency supported by the antenna. 5G N78 which I believe Rain is using has a Frequency range of 3300MHz - 3800MHz.

A dual antenna setup of these should do the trick. With high frequency ranges coverage is an issue so LOS will work best but they will obviously work better than just the router inside the house IF signal is the issue.

Going to set you back a couple of grand but given the discount on the 5G router which is significant this is a real option. Comparing to setup costs of WISPs you are still looking at a lower setup cost and speeds well way more than what WISPs are offering.

I'm not sure if Rain is locking the simcard to 5G only which I doubt but remember the Huawei H112 is backward compatible so 4G fall back is available too.

Interesting, totally willing to pay if this will do the trick. Will probably speak to them again next week to find out what the options are.

Hi. So actual normal speedtest is only about 80Mbps. While the rain website speedtest gives +- 320Mbps where I currently have it setup. I'm still happy have no fibre in my area so it's still way better than the current lte offerings.

An ongoing log say once a month or even bi-weekly if you have the time to a set of say 3 different servers (local and international) would be awesome for tracking the service over time.

70MB still beats ADSL so why not take it up even at that speed?

I told them it is almost 10x what i am getting now, but they said they can't leave me with that speed when they are promising way more. I was happy to take it and see if it gets better, try antennas etc, they were not willing and left with everything. So will see if they come back, try something, or just refund me and leave it.

Aah okay they were the ones who didn’t want to implement it like that.

Kind of good in a way as it means they have some guaranteed speeds in mind.

Hi guys,

I have a few questions about Rain 5G (I have signed up but havent gotten response yet)

Does the R 1000 package have any FUP? Cause if it does then its a bit lame.... the 4g variant Doesn't have FUP and pushed it some months between 300 gb and 1 tb without any speed issues.

Health concerns? I heard that 5g isnt especially the healthiest radio wave out there and in testing stage it killed animals etc in european countries

What is the fastest speeds that you guys had, the average speeds and the slowest? (I know its area depends but just doing a quick survey)

What is the ping like? Gaming wise is it better than fiber gaming overseas? And local ping?

The router given can you add external antenna?

Is the R 1000 package uncapped 24/7?

Reason for asking cause they dont specify these questions and I have called them but was unable to answer my questions
