10Mb ADSL

you know this whole 10mbps line speed thing is starting to p@@s me off! its like one of those woman u meet in a bar and u chat up.. only to waste 3 hours just watching her TEASE you and not getting anything out of it.. well.. this is how telkom is behaving.. last nights call to telkom broadband support to refresh my port was another instance of TEASING!

"yes your line has been provisioned for 10mbps adsl service but we arent sure when they gonna upgrade you" and "the max speed possible is 24mbps at ur exchange" !!!! just upgrade it dammit!

There is physical work required to provision some of the DSLAM's to operate at higher speeds. Also entails module swaps and re-jumpering in some cases...
 
So, new cards are fitted to the DSLAMs.

The backbones between the DSLAMs and the NOCs / LIRs are upgraded.

The links between the NOC / LIRs and the traffic providers are upgraded.

The traffic providers have upgraded their equipment. (FFS, when I do a trace route through an MWEB ADSL circuit, I see they're now using 10Gb ethernet switches)

Then why do Telkom say things like; We're launching this some time after the "event that I cannot mention here for fear of FIFA taking legal action against me". ?

That be one uninformed source!!! AFAIK they are launching 1 June, prior to SWC. Telkom Mobile are launching post-SWC, but that is dependant on the billing and assurance systems and also nothing to do with FIFA.
 
I think that 90% of the MyBB members are in for extreme disappointment when these upgrades come around

Now THAT I agree with, as I am one of them.... My DSLAM was one of the first installed (many years ago) and has not been upgraded, so no 10Mbps for me. Ans I'm in throwing distance! :cry:
 
I live literally about a 2min drive from the Randburg exchange and damn its quite a large building!
Since there is a carwash on the opposite side of it some techies chill there and get food etc and iv spoken directly to a tech who was there on lunch saying the Randburg 11 exchange is capable of 8mbit easily on their current setup but they haven't even begun to upgrade it with newer equipment to ensure mass roll out for the peeps connected to the exhcange. This was last week friday btw.

All over the show, i used nntp and torrents to download everything, got all my source files from nearly a dozen sites, not possible to find everything in 1 place, it is almost 90GB after all.
Cant actually remember where i got everything took about 5 weeks to download the lot between all my other shows and stuff that jumped the q.

My suggestion, google, a lot.
 
Portcullis ,Did you check the uplink sync speed on your modem? Would be interesting to know what we may get in the future...
 
Is it possible to tell whether an exchange is on Metro Ethernet or something? I would assume they use this for the upgrades

A friend had terrible line stats and had a max theoretical speed of 2 mbps now it’s something extreme. He said they upgraded the exchange to Metro Ethernet. He lives in Muizenberg.
