It takes 5sec. They can do it while you wait on the phone. Did you call 10210?

IF you need a port change at the dslam then it can take a couple of days actually because a technician needs to actually go to the dslam/exchange and change your port.

You can try and log in on the telkom website and click on the "My orders" link to see what is the most recent order that was place and use that order number to follow up.

Usually within 72 hours, but requires manual intervention on occasion, and over Easter this can cause delays. After a speed upgrade, you need Telkom (or your ISP if you let them manage your line) to initiate a port recreate, which will push the new session info and profile to the port at your exchange, and you will sync at the new speed. It's oftentimes better to have your ISP do this for you so that you can avoid the lengthy waiting times for Telkom's support to do this.

They can no longer do it in 5 seconds over the phone. First line support initiate the process but do not finalise it.

+1 I honestly don't know why they even have first line support anymore. They CAN'T do ANYTHING anymore. Before they could change profiles complete orders and downgrade and upgrade lines instantly. Now they can't and simply log a fault or order for someone else to deal with it.

So sad as it causes so much delays. I had to wait 2 days for my 10Mbps upgrade and no dslam port changing was required......

chevron i did fone 10210...they told i wil require a few days because they upgraded my line and package

The problem is first line support were simply upgrading and downgrading willy-nilly. Some ISPs were doing the same. Hence why systems like ASSIA have become necessary, and why new change controls and approval processes have been put into place. It results in better overall backend management of the network while minimising human stupidity from the equation. It does however have its downsides as well, as many have recently discovered. These changes, however, are a necessary evil.

The package would have been changed instantly.... I see by your edited post that you are already on adsl2+ so no need for a port change. When did you order the new service?

Thanx guyz...last Q is my line able to handle 10mb,is it possible

Well, we don't know your line number. :D

Private message me your ADSL number and I'll check the exchange profile, routing info, and let you know what you can attain on your line. :)

Yes. Your SNR is a bit low for you Attenuation though. There is something on the line causing noise which can be anything from a faulty joint somewhere a long the line or even a faulty filter.

Might be worth checking your filter but I think you should be fine but the jump from 2Mbps to 10Mbps might see your SNS drop to like 6dB if it is 15.6dB when synced @ 2Mbps.....

Tuesday 31 March

Should have been done already. I'll see if I can push through a port recreate request for you as well once you PM me your number (maybe). Can't make promises in this department though.

Did you get an order number for the upgrade?

what reallly bugs me is i was on 4mb and move to 2mb within a day but that way i went straight to a telkom branch this time arround i phoned them

OK, just checked your routing info and exchange info and you are fine for 10Mbps. You are connected to an ISAM unit and the line is in fine condition to handle 10Mbps, although I would agree with cavedog that there's perhaps more noise than one would expect being as close to the ISAM unit as you are. No need to report a fault yet, unless after the upgrade you see your SNR drop to below 7dB (which would result in Telkom's systems auto-changing your sync lower if it happens continuously).
