I have some questions pertaining to 123NET fibre.

1) How would they lay fibre to you if your neighbours aren't customers.

2) How many people need to sign up? Must each of these sign ups be from new households or can there be multiple from one household.

Any help would be appreciated.

1) I'd imagine it would go past your neighbours.
2) About 300. Don't think multiple signups from one household would count. Unless you want to take multiple installations.

Good morning,

Yes, Swa is correct. We lay our fibre directly to the customer's house, regardless of whether their neighbours are customers or not. In the case of a block of flats, it is possible for one customer to have a fibre network box installed, and their neighbours (in the same block) all 'piggy-backing' off that one network box (i.e. only one network box install required per property, with fibre splitting to each flat).

A minimum of around 300-350 signups are required from an area / suburb before we focus our plans to rollout there. Multiple signups per household do not count (if everyone shares the same account), but multiple signups per block of flats / estates / complexes do count (separate accounts per signup).

Have a great day!

let say someone got alot of money, and want to get fibre from you but there town dont have fibre from 123net, how much will it cost to get them to lay fibre?
like Rxxxx for a fibre to oneperson

theirs telkom fibre around 3km from me tho :/

That's like asking how long a piece of string is :-)

It depends how far you are away from one of the DFA or equivalent backbone access points.. and and and

Good afternoon..

We do not usually quote on deploying fibre to an area for a single person as the costs would be much higher than usual and it is not part of our usual business model. If you are serious about it, however, please feel free to put your request in writing by emailing us with all your information ([email protected]) and we will see if we can arrange a cost-effective solution for you ;)

thx
what is the normal cost? R1500
wonder how much higher it will be,and if fiber is here other may get it also

wont say i am 100% serious and will get it,all depends on the price

bit fed up with slow adsl speed and like the techi say "very old lines"

Add a couple of 0's on the installation cost if you the sole user

couple? o.o

but surely if they lay it here, more users will get it and make the cost cheaper?

should get atlest 300 ppl to fill in the forum, should ask ppl i know if they will be intrested
should print and hand out flyers :P

The interesting bit is that because they don't deploy single fibres to individuals from an access point it's often longer than it needs to be. So in order to reduce the overall length an access point may go past you for 1km then come back 100m past you to a distribution point before it goes to you.

Well the R1500 is the cost if you're taking one of the paid options so rather take the total installation cost of R3600. Multiply that by the 300 people required and you get to around R1,080,000. Won't be quite as much as that as they're not deploying to 300 people and only to one but will still be a serious dollop of cash. Not less than R100k I'd say.

Just a quick question , I see that my neighbourhood has some streets with DFA fibre and a node is actually at the bottom of my street . Do you guys use existing fibre infrastructure ( is that part of you planning phase?) , or do you install your own infrastructure when installing in a new area ?

Good luck with that. For each 100 invitations only about 10 people would join our group and maybe 1 would sign up. Even the ones saying they will sign up don't. One would think people would be enthusiastic but you literally have to sell the idea and tell people why they want to sign up for it.

I can only find 2 people so far that liked the 123net facebook page. Asked people if they liked the page, one reposted that with "yup" but guess what, he didn't. Yet people will like all kinds of junk.

300-350 X 1500 ? Somwhere there should give you an idea...

This "Free" uncapped 5meg fibre from 123Net, is it a scam?

Whats the catch?

Yes there is a once off fee of R3500, but how do they make money from this?

It's only valid for the first two years.

It's not a scam and google is doing the same thing. You get two basic types of users, one that will pay for internet and one that will pay for construction but can't afford a high monthly payment. The first one are too few and far between to make construction costs affordable. To offset the cost you get more people to pay for construction but give them an incentive as free but slow internet.
