123NET Fibre

Good luck with that. For each 100 invitations only about 10 people would join our group and maybe 1 would sign up. Even the ones saying they will sign up don't. One would think people would be enthusiastic but you literally have to sell the idea and tell people why they want to sign up for it.

I can only find 2 people so far that liked the 123net facebook page. Asked people if they liked the page, one reposted that with "yup" but guess what, he didn't. Yet people will like all kinds of junk.

I Know this is a bit late, but you are absolutely correct. I have started a movement here in Kuils River, Cape Town and every weekend i do about 30-40 people, where I go to their home, talk to them about what i am doing and handing out flyers that I made. Out of all the people i go to there are only about 20-30 that say "yes, i would very much like to support you" and out of those there are only about 2-3 that actually sign up.
Now i do understand that not all of them have the same vision and enthusiasm that i have about fiber... but i mean it wouldn't hurt to show some respect. Some people have even invited me into their homes or have talked to me for about 15 minutes wanting to know more and telling me how they appreciate the effort i am putting in....then again we must realize this is only earth. I mean at this rate Telkom's (however much it hurts me to say this) fibre will probably arrive before i've met our suburbs targets.

The thing is, this is 123net's job but they are not helping I have officially gave up on Bellville I can't do their marketing on my expense for the hope of something that seems to good to he true.

123net is also allowing you to change if you really want to.

And Telkom doesn't offer any free options which is a necessity for some neighbourhoods where not everyone can afford to pay upwards of R700.

I am writing this because Rustenburg is in an underdeveloped state when it comes to internet. I encourage all people in Rustenburg to sign up for 123NET's internet service which starts at prices as low as R449 for a 10mbps speed. This will be a major development for Rustenburg and surely we all need it. As I understand we can also get FREE 5mbps internet if we get 123NET in our area!

123Net promised Secunda the heaven and the earth. Since the beginning of 2015 we in Secunda had been eagerly awaiting the promised roll out of fibre. It was promised for start of September. 123Net even posted photos how it would look when they come to install the fibre.

- They promised that the CEO Kalin would appear on the forum to answer questions - we are still waiting.

- They said we needed 300 sign-ups and have now changed it to 500 signed contracts.

I fear you are headed for much disappointment should you explore this avenue.

What if another smaller suburb approaches 123, what will their requirements be? Still 500? Or do they have a number based on suburb size/# of households?

Secunda is a town, not a suburb. Small suburbs would probably be ~200 contracts. Large ones and small towns ~300 contracts.

Well, if you look at 123net's site, you'd see that they have a count-down. They said there were enough sign-ups and then decided to increase it after saying they were already rolling out.
Also, re-reading the posts, make sure to read people's quoting of their comments as 123net edited their comments afterwards.

I know what was said. 300 signups is the target to investigate. When I asked them they explicitly said they can decide not to do it if it doesn't look viable. Both sides assumed some stuff. Secunda that 300 signups was a requirement for guaranteed roll out. 123Net that 600 signups means they would get the 500 customers to make it viable.

So don't put it all on them and don't make unfounded accusations either. There's been a lot of accusations such as them not providing a service when they've been in active operation for at least 2 months now.

If your area qualifies, we'll begin construction in your suburb shortly. This process will take some time. Once we're ready to connect you, we'll get in touch and schedule a time for a 123NET fibre team member to come to your house and install your equipment.

That gives the impression that they are qualified for the roll-out => according to the quote they would bring the service to them.

Here is some information on what others want (as was proposed to the Lynnwood Fibre Initiative through our open RFP process):
Dark Fibre Africa: 0%
Fibrehoods: 30% contracted
Frogfoot: 0%
Link Africa: 0%
Telkom: 0%
Vodacom: 40% contracted
Vumatel: 30% interest

We are approximately 2050 properties in our first phase. So 30% would be about 700.

There is no reasoning with this guy. I have tried to explain that backhaul costs from Secunda to the closest POP is enough reason that fibre is not going to happen (except for Telkom fibre), but alas, he knows better.

Anyway, he will soon realise that 123Net is not the knight in shining armor he thinks it is.
