123NET Fibre

More double standards from you...

Nope, but I have told you before. They have not broken their promises to us in Blairgowrie. They have missed deadlines, yes, but with good reason. Broken promises, nope. So how do I have double standards?

Every single time I have to tell you this, do you not have a memory?

Where's 123net, 1 year in?

Putting their fibre in other companies trenches at night, oh, that's where.

This is classic! So if they dig a trench down my road for whatever, water, elect, and i'm a licensed provider can i just chuck fibre in there? Surely not. But i do agree with the dig once, why dig multiple times.

You don't seem to understand hypocrisy so I have to point it out to you every time. You seem to be the one with memory problems. So Vuma hasn't broken any promises to you... well neither has 123net broken any promises to us.

They have to Secunda, they have to Paulshof, and they also have to Weltevreden park.

What promises did they make to Paulshof and Weltevredenpark? They get the numbers, investigate and then roll out if it makes sense. Don't see a promise in that. Doesn't matter in any case, you keep bringing up broken promises when Vuma can be accused on the same and now people are stuck with them as their provider.

do you have proof to back up your accusation that Vumatel break their promises?

Read the reports. It's well known what they promised in their submission documents. It's also one of the main reasons they were selected.

I'm still waiting for these guys to reply to me. Seems like they are only interested in exclusive access and will not supply open access fibre

The main problem with the FTTH rollout in SA is lazy people.
I saw the news on the front page of MBB, and it just blew my mind how they are trying to blame bodycorps for the slow rollout.
I applied for FTTH the orher day from cybersmart, and got the same response/excuse as from all the others.... "get more people to sign up" but then a piece that just made me realise, they are actually clueless.

We can make the FTTH services available to your location and your neighbours’ from the closest fibre route, provided we can obtain approximate combined customer uptake of R11 500 per month. Please bear in mind that each additional address will change the minimum uptake amount, as the distance is the main factor affecting the feasibility.

Now please tell me what do you want? More people or less people to sign up? How does more people make it more expensive then less people? How does distance play a factor in feasibility? The only reason I can see is for the digging part since fibre does not get more expensive per meter nor does it drop signal quality nearly as much as copper over a long distance.... but here is the thing, lets say me and my neighbors pay R11500 like requested (now keep in mind that the people paying for laying the fibre has to pay people for digging up the street etc.) and people 3 houses along the line see how we just love FTTH and decide to convince their neighbors to dock up a combined R11500pm (and now they have to pay for the digging again in the same area) and the trend continues and all pays R11500pm. So how would digging once be more expensive then digging 10 times?

I have also not ever seen any fibre company advertising the clear benefits of fibre over adsl. People dont want to get fibre since they dont understand the huge difference. Fibre is getting cheaper by the day and that is a good thing. now I dont defend 123net, but hell they were the only people that actually came to Secunda to answer questions and talk business while where in the world is the other cowardly companies hiding? Not one will show up in person and explain the process and advantages of rolling out fibre, they all want the customer to spread the word and do the dirty work for them(and then come up with silly excuses), while they sit back and rip you off with R11500pm.

I truly hope that 123net comes back to life, although they did hurt their reputation (actually mortally wounded it), even if it is just to take away customers from the rest of the wanebe fibre players.

/rant.

You again....... stop making us jealous like you did in the Secunda thread =P

HEHE, Seems people are way to serious about this topic and in good time everyone will have fibre and enjoy what it brings.

Instead of everyone bashing every provider which i am sure delays things even more some positivity might get results!

This is one of the main problems. Although with the slow pace of rollout people are now moving to other wireless options and not caring about FTTH any more. Someone here after signing up with 123net went for Telkom's LTE instead. It's true the points you make. They were one of the few providers actually willing to talk to the public. I hope they continue their rollout and get the funding and licenses to expand to other provinces and engage with communities to make it happen. It's disgusting how Icasa is holding things up in our country.

I thought 123net got all their licenses from ICASA that they required? We still dont have any reason for the sudden silence from 123net, unless you know something we dont? I also hope that they will start rolling out to more areas soon, but trying to contact them in any way is failing currently. But hey, lets keep hoping/dreaming =P.

Couldn't get the license for Gauteng, which presumably they need if they're going to service other areas around it themselves. Don't know if that has changed. Personally I think financial backing was their biggest problem. Basically if you're not majority BEE you're already screwed. Some just have it easy from the get go. I do wish they'd kept better communication but perhaps they're lacking employees in that department.

i keep seeing there vans around the umhlanga area. Trying to get hold of them is impossible...
