I have had a 10Mb Telkom ADSL line for a year or two now. Router syncs at 10236 Kbps on the downstream and 1020 on the upstream. Been extremely solid for a long time now.

However, I was out of the country for a few days and when I got back I noticed my line now syncs at 12476 Kbps on the downstream and 1020 on the up.

Doing a speedtest shows speeds of like 9.7Mbps download, and downloading torrents come in at 1.1MB/s.

Is 12Mb a new option for ADSL lines now? I always thought 10Mb would be the highest we could get on adsl, despite my router telling me I can get over 20Mb on ADSL2+.

Just thought this was interesting...

they upgraded you and downgraded some of the other peasants, including me. enjoy!

I wouldn't mind my speed being upgraded a bit. My latency is in any case high, and I don't game. But alas, my speeds have gone down and down, and fluctuating badly at times.

Also got bumped to 12mb

I also noticed in December that my downloads were running at 1.1MB/s - 1.2MB/s. So I checked my sync speed and it seems I have also been upgraded to 12mbs :)

Thanks Telkom. Always nice to get something extra for nothing.

It's a pity that upload speeds are capped at 100kb/s by ADSL technology... :(

It's actually 1000kb/s (1Mb/s) on ADSL and 2Mb/s on VDSL.

The tech is not so much to blame as is Telkom's decision to limit the speed.

A relative in New Zealand is getting 50/10 on VDSL.
