175.85Km link

I just want to find out if any other WISP has setup a long link.

We did a joint Venture with Green Wireless from Johannesburg all the way back to Standerton 175.85km links with Mikrotik equipment. We are still planning a link to Newcastle.

Will keep you up to date with the testing..

is this one continuous link, ie one hop, or is it multiple hops?

the longest microwave link i have heard of is about 120-130km or summin, so just wondering

hmmm, What hardware was used here? I'm specifically interested in exactly which radios you made use of?

Ah, 3 hops.
See, thats not a continuous link, so that doesn't count ;)

As far as I know, 1000mW is legal on 5.8, 100mW on 2.4

I might be wrong or it could have changed.

*shrug*

1000mW EIRP on 5.4-5.7 GHz. 5.8 is 25mW EIRP. 350mW into a 31dBi grid is way above 1000mW EIRP - it's closer to 350W EIRP.

Still way over the top, even for 5.4 - 5.7GHz. 100mW into a 31dBi grid is around 100W EIRP. If you lose 3dB in the pigtail, coaxial cable and connectors you end up with 50W EIRP.

the title says 146.68km link and the post 175.85km ?

It's three hops in anycase, not one link. Counting all the backbone links on PTAWUG and Jawug we have more than 1000km of links.

What is the longest link between the three hops?

So long links only count when you link between towns over rural areas, not over urban areas ? mmmkay

the title says 146.68km link and the post 175.85km ? which is it ?

that kinda distance perfectly do-able running high powered cards, donno what the big fuss is about =] and to somewhere like standerton where i am sure there is no noise - even easier. the problem is you have one link supplying the whole of standerton what happens when that link goes down

A quick little count of some of the major backbone links on Jawug, comes to about 200km.
Thats only the backbone links between our major highsites. Not the user links, which would add up to a whole lot more...
