Hey guys, going to build a pc for the first time.
Just worried about the finer details for the mobo installation.

Was wondering if guys had any tips/guides for motherboard installation.
I might be getting a 2nd hand CPU as well, so was wondering what to do with the old thermal paste on in? Paste over it??

Thx in advance

just take your time.. dont try rush it... and be VERY gentle when placing everything.. and never force anything in... it if is not going in easy, then it is going in wrong!
Try youtube for some guides maybe?

discharge your static fingers
put prestic on the screwdriver, and dont evertighten the screws

Where would I be able to get the alcohol? Any pc shop or is it a slightly rarer commodity?

With the mobo from what I read here... should be fairly easy if i follow the manual? :D

Thank goodness i have a laptop to come running here for help if anything goes south

+1 to not forcing anything, most components need a little pressure to secure, but not too much. Make sure you use secure the mobo to the case using all the mountings, otherwise it could bend when you install the RAM/CPU/IDE etc. and cause damage. Make sure your CPU is not overheating when you first boot after installing anything, just to be sure....

and make sure you seat your CPU fan PROPERLY.. else u will over heat so quickly :P
also forgot to mention u should try do it in a room WITHOUT carpets.. can cause you to get a bit static which is no good! and make sure not to lose any screws or anything of the such!

keep touching the case every few min to make sure you discharging any static.

+1

My nr1 enemy from all the PC's ive build is static.
Like everyone is saying here. just take ur time, dont rush it. Oh and dont forget to use those gold/silver screws that come between the mobo and the backplate. I didnt know bout them on my first install. Didnt go dont too well.

Another thing is to run the box open for the first few hours. Then you will be able to see if one of the fans stop spinning, or if you have problems with wires touching fans, ect. Usually what I do is while I install the OS I leave the box open, then after that I tidy up, and cable tie all the wires ect. That gives you sufficient time to see everything is operating properly !!!

Phone me will do the the job for you hope you live in Cape Town me i from JHB get me a flight ticket pls

/off topic
but I'm not so sure Static is a such a big problem. I have a box full of junk, and every time I pull something out it works. I have been carrying a spare disk, memory, mobo etc in a bag for around 2 years, every time I touch the bag it sparks (indication of static, I think its made from nylon or something), yet every time I need to use the equipment it works fine....

Basic PC instructions
1.) Don't plug in live power chord cable always turn off before especially when there's a UPS in the loop. Happens you can spike the psu and pop components at the same time, infact treat everything in a PC as not hotswappable and power must be off before you touch anything inside.

2) Hold on/off button for 4 seconds to turn PC off, seemingly this one isn't that obvious and remember your PC is not off, switch off at wall if you're going to unplug see step 1.
