So I was told yesterday that my flight time has moved an 1:20 min earlier. On phoning the call centre I was told this was due to operational reasons and that to get a later flight I would have to pay the difference and pay a penalty of R120 per person.

So now it leaves me with two days to book a new flight, with the later 1time flight being R1028 pp (excl. penalty), the original flight having being R314 pp. Any other flights are going to be similarly priced it being so close to the date.

Apparently this is all according to the terms and conditions (which is probably true), and the t&c's are in line with the CPA.

Do I have any recourse here in terms of the CPA? Any other avenue?

It's not even in their T&C's, which only refers to delays and cancellations, not changes to the itinerary. In my mind delay is specific to time plus x, not time - x.

7. Delays
7.1 While 1time will use its best endeavours to ensure
that it departs on time, it will not be responsible when
flights are delayed for any reason, including,
but not limited to weather, technical problems, air
traffic congestion, loading and unloading of baggage, and
the like.
7.2 1time will not be liable for any delays on the part of
ground operators, hotels or car rental companies.

So I contested that this case is not covered in the T&C's, and they agreed, but said they could give me a refund.

So step 1. Just say its in the T&C's and hope the customer isn't literate. Step 2. Offer a refund.

So I get my 600 back and then have to pay R2k for a new flight. MAD!

That's lousy, when this happened to me on Mango they offered me the choice of a later or earlier flight on the same day at no extar cost to me.

is it absolutly impossible for you to leave 80 minutes earlier?

Not at all. It's very possible. But their actions are unfair, and i'm angry that no attempt is made to find a more equitable solution. Principle of the matter.

Exactly. This is fair. As opposed to being told (incorrectly) that it was the terms I agreed to, so tough.

Insist that they put you on another flight closer to the time you can make it.

I've had this happen with another low cost carrier, where I got notification a week earlier that the flight time had changed. I called and asked to be moved to another flight as I couldn't make that time, and they made the change without any cost to me.

Insisting is met with it's in the T&c's. Speaking to the call center supervisor is like speaking to a automated voice system with two tracks.

Reservation change.
Is in our T&Cs

Have emailed NCC, but it's government so no expectations.

Well when Kulula put me on an earlier flight I phoned them up and said:" Sorry but an earlier flight is not possible for me. I would like to know what the latest flight is." They then booked me on the following days British Airways flight and all was done free of charge :)

I guess 1time means you get two times. Ha ha.

They're now insisting it's a delay not a schedule change. Extremely unapologetic and short at their customer relations.

Unfortunately I can't get hold of some higher up, and apathy is starting to set in.

Maybe you should by them a dictionary and supply it to them :D
