hey guys

I'm in the market for buying myself a 2.1 speaker system...

Whats the good - best value for money with decent looks...

I've looked at the Harmon Kardon... the price !!!
2nd was the Logitech Z2300... some really good reviews and gettin 8inch woofer would cost that price range...

any other makes that we are able to get??

how are the JBL Creatures???

2.1 systems of choice - anything from Cambridge Soundworks (even the cheapies)
2.0 systems of choice - Creative GigaWorks T20 or T40

I had heard how amazing and 'hi-fi' like the Z2300's were with the THX rating etc - but I really didn't find them up to the audiophile standard that everyone says :/
However, I'd probably get them anyway as they're R2000 and still very good for the price

probably depends on your budget

I am looking at a reasonable set....

think they priced from R1200 - R2000

i've lredy broken 2 R550 sets, so i'm thinking better gett something that will last!!!

I'm also in the market for new speakers, but dam they expensive. I'll be saving up for some Z2300s.

The Z-2300 is about R1400 iirc. I've got a set, but I'm no audiophile, and I mostly play mp3 music from my iPod, so I can't really comment on the true audio clarity, but they sound better than anything I've heard and are incredibly loud.

where'd you buy them from dude??

I've seen lowest at R1700...

but if can save R400, why not... :D

If you can source a set of Altec Lansing MX5021's, you'll be set. They cost similar to the Z-2300's, but have 2 separate mids and a tweeter on the satellites. Also the sub is cleaner than the Z-2300's. I love 'em

Good luck though, since they've been out of production for months.

I got a Altec Lansing FX4021 recently, quite impressed and costs less than R1K when I bought it.

Won't be such good bang for buck if he's looking to pump music. The Z2300s are three times as powerful.

Correct, sorta...

Z-2300: Satellites = 40 watts RMS x 2, Subwoofer = 120 watts RMS, Frequency response = 35 Hz–20 kHz

MX5021: Satellites = : 20 Watts RMS x 2, Subwoofer = 50 watts RMS, Frequency response = 30 Hz - 22 kHz

The Logitechs do have greater volume, although I've played music and games at high levels once or twice for fun on my MX5021 set and it was pretty insane in our townhouse. I'd hate to run any PC sound at high volumes for long, both for the speakers' sake and the ears of anyone nearby.

The AL's have a better frequency response, meaning that notes sound clearer IMO. Having experienced the flat-sounding boomy bass of the Z-2300's I'm still way happier with the AL's.
:)

When I had PC's, Altec Lansing were always my favourite.
Even just 2 speakers and no sub, sound was incredible.:)

Apple should use them in their iMacs.

Yeah, I'm sure they sound amazing. :)

got myself the Logitech X-240 for a trial run for couple days...

will see how they play... and upgrade if not good enough... :)

Got my Z-2300 today ... very awesome speakers at the price!

Managed to get them at R1550.00 on Kalahari. They're pretty loud, pretty clear and the 8" 120 watt RMS sub goes pretty low. It doesn't quite match my floorstanders bass though ;)

You also have to place the subwoofer nicely as it tends to boom and sound like an 'add on' even on the lowest setting.

I do wish they had tweeters - as it seems they're not fantastic on the smoother high end.

BUT those two little gripes aside - awesome speakers!
