Anyone else getting these ridiculous dl speeds? Since saturday morning. Is RIM starting to throttle after a certain amount of usage?

I'm sure some networks are throttling speeds on BB. My speed has also dropped a lot since last week. I decided to use another network simcard and guess what....... the speeds are very good again. I've spoken to some other people around here about their speed on BB and the ones that are experiencing speed problems are mostly on the red network.

I get around 5kb/s here. It's insanely frustrating! Those speeds are ridiculous on 3G.

Its vodacom and MTN, personally i blame these guys: http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/332276-8.1GB-downloaded-in-one-day

Downloading 8-12gb per day has screwed up the service for everyone, with people like that its no surprise the providers have been forced to throttle. Dont worry, it will only get worse from here on in, they will soon join the rest of the world in fixed cap BIS packages.

I usually get these rubbish speeds in the evenings, from say 16:00 to 21:00. In my case I think its because the network in my area is oversubscibed. Outside of these hours I generally am getting very high speeds.

I get the best speeds (100kbps +) at 05:00 - 08:00 in the morning, after that its all down hill from there

BIS is deprioritiesed, you get good speeds then cause everyone else is sleeping and not suing their phones.

I actually dont mind capped packages, say 1 gig or whatever, but what i cannot stand is S L O W download speeds!

Give us full speeds & caps - not looking for 8 gigs a day like some *******s, just the ability to get a mp3 faster than 40 minutes

MTN download speeds are just as bad,At home i get max 14kbps and in Sandton around 18 and this is at different times.

I thought I was the only one, problem started Saturday morning. Downloading a 10MB file for about 40 minutes. Vodacom is now RED *hits face*

Aaaargh...

I am getting the same BS. Generally get between 100-160kb/s download speeds on 3G with vodacom. Lately I've only been getting 5kb/s which is horrifying me.

Today I took an identical device to mine, on the same OS, network and tried to download a file on both phones from the same website. My phone would not go faster than 5kb/s and the other phone was cruising at 160kb/s. The phones were next to each which made me even more livid.

I called vodacom to maybe get it resolved. The operator resent service books which did not alleviate the issue. I was then told I must take my device into voda care.

I have also heard rumours that download speeds are being throttled after a certain cap limit which I think is pathetic. I have also been told when the next monthly BIS service is activated it might go back to normal, I am going to keep a close eye on this. If this is the case they should be honest with their clients instead of keeping us like mushrooms (in the dark and fed crap). In any case I didnt even download much this month.

I have tried every trick in the book and have not succeeded. The only thing left to do is reload the OS but the thought of re-downloading or registering apps is annoying and time consuming. Imagine if the fresh OS doesnt sort the problem out and I am stuck re-downloading apps at 5kb/s.

Another annoying aspect is that every Vodacom store I have walked in and requested a BIS policy/conditions, I was told that there isnt one, surely with the CPA this should be provided.

I agree with Rands, fixed caps if need be but with proper damn speeds. AAARRRRGGHHH.......:mad::mad:

As much as I love my Torch, I will not get another Blackberry - when I see how my friends with iPhones and Galaxys surf I get frustrated. Cost of data is coming down and for my mobile requirements the R59-00 per month for BIS is not that lucrative anymore.

I would suggest wifi, they are marvelous phones and i suppose i would download a lot less if i never had the wifi, but on wifi i have done about 500mb in the last week, but as its wifi i have not exactly been too caring.
I have wifi @ work and @ home so its mostly only weekends that i use 3G data, but i have been chopping and changing applications.

Now I'm reminded why I moved to Android and a standard data bundle, it had nothing to do with Rim but it had everything to do with our networks who wait until bis is completely unusable before they do anything. For the record this is quite normal: in the two years I had my Bold this happened five times - basically bis is oversubscribed and the networks have to upgrade their connection to the server.

So today is the 1st of the month and and I noticed this morning that my download speeds are back to normal. I assumed now that the new BIS for this month has been activated I shouldn't be having this problem (not for a few days at least) but alas, my relief was short lived as now I am back to square one as I'm trying to download something at the moment. 6kb/s at full 3G coverage!!! This is seriously not on...

I did everything too reloaded Os, changed devices...came to a conclusion that BIS is ****ed up!!!!!!!!!
