2.5kb/s speeds....?

actually guys....vodacom has started charging for downloads on BB's....they have ammended their BIS terms and conditions. it is no longer "unlimited", now they charge for streaming AND downloads. so basically what i have noticed ios that, when you do not have airtime on your phone, and you browse or download, you will get these crappy speeds, and most likely anything you download will fail.
i lost about R40 of my airtime because of these charges. any, just keep an eye on your airtime when you download. so now all you get for R60 a month is PUSH email (which nokia can now do as well), bbm, unlimited BROWSING, and bbm, and the likes
the value of BIS has officially been destroyed. i have cancelled my BIs with vodacom, and have moved to another network.

i wonder what all the people on the vodacom network with BB's will do when they find out they are being charged for downloads......#smh

they have started charging for downloads....see the T & C, so you basically need to have e-tym if you are going to download.....

No, downloads are FREE. I've investigated and found that BIS works on a shaped data network therefore when you've reached a download ccap of 2GB between the 30 days, download speeds are decreased below 10KB/s. Even if Vodacom refresh your number on their system, a sim swop is done - NOTHING can change until 30 days is over.

Tip: Do not choose the open option when downloading videos and music.

I live in Durban, mount edgecombe area.I have been having problems with my VC 3G on blackberry for a week now. Slow page loading, download speeds do not go beyond 10kb/s(I'm sure a Curve says 3G on the box). They said it might be the software, spent 3 hrs waiting for a software upgrade. Surprise it worked! Only to find that simultaneously my cousin who had been having the same problem said the network was 'back to normal'. But 4 hrs or so later. Back to the same problem. Is there an upgrade they are not telling us about or have they started capping blackberry users?

You've pointed out something. Upgrades which they are not telling us about. Because what I've just conducted is; EDGE speeds are still normal when downloading, but when switched to 3G they're below the EDGE speeds even. But I'm going to attempt another sim swap!

I went to bed at around 12 last night, started downloading a 100meg file and it was going at 145kb/s got to around 83% and then started dropping, when I woke up the download speed had finished on 35kb/s lol

In Stellenbosch full 3G connection on vodacom I can't get anything better than 15kb/s but in at my jhb place I average 150kb/s to 200kb/s. Downloads are "free" still able to push a gig a month so I'm happy with my BIS.

I've found the problem...-BB-Geek RIGHT HERE!!!! Back to my original speeds...

The old Vodacom sim card (Blue) encounters these problems. I took my wife's red sim card and put it in my Torch, and took my blue sim card and put it in her Curve 8900 and the speeds on my Torch shot up! Lacked on her curve LOL #soundswrong#

I did a sim swap then - KABLAMMMM lol #East#

I have the red sim and my speeds are still K@K .Any comment on Cell c 3g BIS speeds.

Got a blue vodacom sim card. Getting speeds of 6.5KB/s looks like the bandwidth got throttled to 2.5KB/s and now back up to 6.5KB/s. Can anybody confirm this?

Do a sim swop if you're on a blue!!!!!!!!! My speed are back to norm!
Lol I have only been activated now since my last post, and that's after the second time getting a ricad sim card, they stuffed up the first attempt and now about 9 hours after I started the second sim swop its finally registered. Gona try dl a file tonight and see what speeds I get

Vodacom is a liar and that's it, a month ago I called them and ask them why I'm getting download speed @ 30 - 60kb/s when I used 2 get 130kb/s, all they said R.I.M whill throttle if u download a lot, I then performed a wipe, it sorted the problem but then went right down to under KB/S, don't try reloading OS it will only work for a short while. I also don't think the blue sim and red sim is the solution, I'm blue sim, wifey is red sim, wifey has same problem. Let's face it we r stuffed, now let's have a look @ the yellow or black networks, time to move on and say goodbye to the red devil.

Yellow network started the throttling first and cell c will follow suite as the abusers will more than likely jump ship long before the normal users. Save yourself the effort and get a proper phone, go droid or ikak or even wp7, vodas new data rates that kick in in 3 weeks make that a very viable solution.

You mean the new rates that on most bundles are more expensive than the bundles they're replacing?

The bis problems you're all having will be sorted eventually with a network upgrade but I'm sorry to say they will happen again and again until either fewer people use Blackberrys or the abusers stop abusing the service. And to confirm there is NOTHING you can do on your side that will change your speeds for any extended period of time, it is 100% up to your network. Trust me, I've done it all, the day will come when it will all start magically working at normal speeds again, although experience has taught us that if you're on Vodacom that day will be a lot further away than if you're on MTN.
