Hey guys

So I have 2x4Meg adsl lines at my disposal at my current place of residence. I plan on having 2 uncapped accounts loadbalanced with my RB750G.

What would you guys recommend for the accounts? Im on a budget, so this needs to come in at about a grand. (Both DSL connections are paid for, so ignore that as a cost).

Im thinking either 2 openweb or mweb accounts, or one of each for extra realibility. Hopefully the lines get upgraded to 10meg soon :).

If you had 2 lines, what would you do?

Will openweb let you change backbones on the normal uncapped, non gold?

Hi mrudling,

What I can do from my side is arrange a 7 day trial account in order for you to test our network before making a decision. Please inform me if you would like me to go ahead and set this up for you on our side.

Regards,
MWEB Guy

Thanks Mweb

I will let you know when the line is installed if im keen.

Sorry to derail but how exactly does load balancing work? I also could be looking at 2x4mb lines in the near future - does it combine them into an 8mb line?

Loadbalancing outgoing connections is a bit of a funny one. There is bonding, that will give all your outgoing connections the same IP but is expensive.

The way i will do it is with Mikrotik, that will send every new connection via another line.

Single threaded downloads will only go via the one line, the next thread will go via the other. Works great for downloads that support more than one connection, such as torrents, or using download managers.

Its not a perfect soloution, but will work for me, and allow me to get a total download speed of 8meg.

Hopefully i get the lines updated to 10meg soon.

ps, you enable "sticky sessions" on the outgoing connections so secure sites etc dont get confused when you keep changing ip's
