20 buses burn

Wtf. What a fail country. I'm sick of these failure people here living their failure lives and making more failure babies.

Honestly, someone should just make a retard people killing virus. It would wipe out 75% of the people in this country, but who would care?

This is why Africans like these, won't ever come out of poverty.

They did not achieve anything at all, except to screw themselves.

What if they faced losing their jobs over getting those tickets? Or got up very early and walked many kilometres to get the tickets?

I'm pretty sure you would also get pissed off more easily if you were living in very poor living conditions. I mean honestly at their level, what other options were open for them to voice their discontent? Mail a letter to the company? Bend over and just accept it?

I'm just thinking about these 'barbaric' incidents from a different perspective.

Both yourself and boramk are right, these are self destructive acts. I, do however, note that neither of you answered my question ... can you give me a course of action, that these people might take, that would be taken note of and acted upon?

My company:(:( We sorting it all out already.

Luf, you have my sympathies. Is there anything you can tell us about:
  • How tickets are sold?
  • Why ticket sellers were intimidated?
  • How the company communicates with its customers (since there was a "communication breakdown")?
  • What recourse customer/s have when systems fail?

well they didnt have to burn them, maybe just dent them or something, if those were my buses and i would terminate all service there. teach them a lesson

The average IQ of a South African is 72 points only. What can you expect from the average South African? If you are not an average South African, you won't understand their logic. At 70 points people are classified as retarded.

This is why the average South African is poor and will stay that way.

You're right of course, however I did note that these were self destructive acts.

I also note that you didn't answer my question, so I'll ask it again ... can you give me a course of action, that these people might take, that would be taken note of and acted upon?

Mass action on site
Mass action off site
Sit in at putco offices
Sit in on the bus itself
getting sangoma's to spit curses on the management

Hell, burning effigies or spray painting "putco sucks" on the buses is better than torching them.

It cannot be acceptable that people burn down trains/buses regardless of the reason, however commonplace it is in SA.

There are ticket offices at the place the busses where burnt as well as mobile ticket offices (The look like busses but with no windows)

Sources say that taxi drivers have been intimidating them but other sources say that intimidators where previous (fired) PUTCO workers

We communicate through the media, on busses and officers (notices) and 'Loud speakers' - Why communication broke down we are still investigating.

We offered to transport the commuteers for free but they where uncertain with the return - We are still investigating why the message was not put forth properly.

This assumes an organised consumer action group.
Sit in at putco offices
Thought that was Putco managements perogative.
Sit in on the bus itself
Isn't this what bus passengers normally do??
getting sangoma's to spit curses on the management
This is original ... I like it :D

Agreed, but I would like to see a system where management feels some real pain e.g. if buses are late then you forfeit 25% of your salary.

You'll find it's already quite widespread.

Anyway personally I think people might learn from this. The problem with people in South Africa is that they have absolutely no foresight. It's like, "Hmmm.. tickets weren't on sale. Let's burn down the buses." Next day: "Right off to catch the bus to work... oh ****."

It's the general trend in this country. Sign in new Education policies, Security policies, Energy policies and so on and realize later on that they really were never good plans for the future.

So how are they going to ride the bus to work tomorrow?

This is the same as cutting one's leg off because your shoe is too tight. Sure it gets rid of the obvious problem; however, it has little benefit for the future.

Bottom line is they probably aren't going to work tomorrow, because they've lost their jobs ... for being late once too often. Not everyone works in the contractually safe environments that most of us work in. I normally argue the other side, but in this case no one has put forward a way that these people wouldn't suffer sanction of some sort.

Indeed. I would welcome a method that these people might take, that would be taken note of and acted upon.

Can anyone tell me what other recourse these people had?

Would Putco have paid any attention to a delegation sent to present a memorandum?
So you condone this senseless act of violence because the people are disgruntled??

When I've worked in Britain the train or bus occasionally just doesn't pitch up. The trains are perpetually late. But you don't see this anarchy in the UK.

It is hardly the job of this forum to provide and alternative to there solution - it is the job of the government to provide reasonable public transport. This situation has ultimately arisen as a result of government greed, corruption and ineptitude. If you want a solution those are the people that these rioters should be addressing - NOT the private bus company doing its best in a difficult situation.

Go picket your MP; if that doesn't work, elect a new official. Unfortunately this country is blinded by the ANC as to how government for the people works. There is your solution.
