20 buses burn

Mate - PUTCO is completely Private, it has always been Private and recieve not one cent from the Government - Commuters are subsidised, Not the company

The Public will not pay anything in damage - The Public/Government never does.

WOW - are you telling me that over 20 buses have been burned, and NOT ONE HOUR of police time or court time (or paperwork generation, or metro cop time, or tax-funded jailtime etc.) will be (or was) required? Amazing - I heard the police don't do much anymore, but it must be far worse than I thought. Will Putco be using private vigilante justice, given they won't be using the public justice system?

*Edit* Oops, someone accidentally let them go to court: http://www.citizen.co.za/index/article.aspx?pDesc=74014,1,22 ... I guess Putco will be pulling them out of that system, since it's funded directly by - um - me and other taxpayers. I guess nobody will be going to jail either.

Yes I would mind. You think I would spend R50 for nothing, if I could prevent it?

I thought as much. So don't tell us we shouldn't mind when money will come from our wallets (one way or another) as a result of someone else's savage behaviour.

See... all the moaning and groaning for NOTHING.

Well, would be anyway if Luf wasn't completely and absurdly incorrect.

In fact, there is a severe problem with youth mobs wreaking havoc on societies across Britain today.

You mean, there is a smallish problem being severely exaggerated and hyped by certain politicians in order to raise their funding and power and push more draconian nanny state laws. In fact crime is trending downwards in the UK: http://www.crimereduction.homeoffice.gov.uk/statistics/statistics066.htm "This is part of a long-term trend - crime rates peaked in 1995, then fell by 42% over the subsequent 10 years. The decline reduced the risk of the average person becoming a victim of crime by 41%"

The time for you to worry about your neighbour, or **** that happens in other provinces or anything else that doesn't affect you enough that you should worry about it, has come and past for South Africa. It is every man for himself now. Government won't help and things won't improve. Just because the country is going down, does not mean you have to let it take you down with it. Many people are still successfull in SA and that stands as solid proof that you have a chance to make it for yourself if you are pro-active, positive, practical, and charge the day with a go-getter attitude, instead of complaining on internet forums.

It's precisely this attitude that causing SA's decline.
A complete and utter inability to grasp the consequences of stupidity and the selfish tolerance of the unacceptable because it doesn't effect you personally.

The skilled and experienced are fleeing the country, successful people, because they can no longer tolerate this attitude.

It's when people stop complaining that you should start worrying, because thats when the successful start making a plans to relocate, and disinvest themselves mentally from the SA.

It appears that you can't understand the consequences of a brain drain, others can.

It's not worse than people complaining, instead of doing anything in the first place.

Tell me, who do you think is listening to your moaning? Or giving a damn?

Don't you think that working hard and doing good business, coupled with positive go-getter attitude, is far more productive, not just for yourself in the short term but for everyone in SA in the longer run? You have to see the bigger picture.

I rather refer to it as focusing my energy on solutions instead of wasting it on complaining about the problems.
Especially when complaining won't help. Very unproductive.

FAIL. Many experts and successful people are staying behind in SA. Just drive through any upperclass residential or business neighbourhood in SA and ask yourself who are running those places. SA is still host to many top world-class businessmen who made it in SA.

It's when people stop complaining that you should start worrying,
I'd prefer people stop complaining and gain a positive attitude and charge the day.

It appears that you can't understand the consequences of a brain drain, others can.

Let those that want to leave, leave. Bigger pieces of the pie then, for those of us that choose to remain in SA.

For the record, I'm returning to SA (permanently) in 2 months' time.

Looks like nothing has changed over the years. If you don't think things are going your way, pick up a rock and throw it at what you don't like. That will solve the problem. Why waste time trying to understand or resolve the situation.

Actually, it seems this is the same way that our taxi industry competes....if someone is getting more fares than you, don't try to offer better service, just shoot him :)

Having lived in the UK for many years, the only "mob violence" I ever heard about was chucking out time on Friday/Saturday nights. Most of them were too p1$$ed to present any real problem to the coppers, there IS the odd exception though.

Oh, you're a Daily Mail reader I see.

Wow, and you accuse me of generalised statements, the reason I say this is because a lot of people work "informally" which means (1) no union, (2) no contractual protection e.g. a neighbour of mine employs a domestic worker, he makes sure that her hours stay well within the area where there is no UIF, etc. Basically he could get rid of her on a whim. How many more are there like my neighbours domestic worker??

Last time I bothered to check, the answer was ... yes

Agreed, but that still doesn't mean I would know its ins and outs, after all I am one of the "previously advantaged".

Good luck with this, but at this juncture I am beginning to agree with Ernesto 'Che' Guevara on certain points.
I am getting bored of rebutting your nonsensical responses now. So, here, for the last time: NOTHING JUSTIFIES THE VIOLENCE ADMINISTERED BY THE PEOPLE THAT BURNT THE BUSES. GET IT NOW?
