2006 FA Cup thread

lol...
from one of the Arsenal forums:

"Michael Jackson has asked Benitez to be his new manager. Apparently he likes the idea of being spanked at home by 11 kids."

Absolutely hillarious!!

Gunners lead the way. :)

Not FA cup related but no need for new thread.

Any Chelsea supporters around? Wycombe...hahahahaha

So Rooney pushes United through...Let's see how chelsea and Arsenal do today.

Hope Notts forest blows the Russian Mafia away...

Fulham had a good win this weekend..... nice one lads.

yeah...yet again though...United losing concentration in the last few mins of the game...

Fifth round draw...

Chelsea were handed a kind home draw in the last 16 of the FA Cup, against either Blackpool or Norwich.

Jose Mourinho's side, who knocked out Nottingham Forest in the fourth round, will face lower-league opposition again.

Manchester United are also at home, to Reading - while Arsenal or Bolton Wanderers will replay for the right to host Blackburn.

Fulham will host Tottenham in an all-Premiership capital clash, while Bristol City - who came from two goals down to force a replay against Middlesbrough - will be at home to West Brom in the fifth round if they can muster a win at the Riverside.

There is a potentially tricky tie on the cards for Manchester City, who must make the short trip to Deepdale to face Preston.

Watford are at home to Ipswich - while one Coca-Cola Championship side is guaranteed to reach the last eight, after Plymouth were drawn at home to Derby.

The ties will be played on the weekend of February 17 and 18.

Preston boss Paul Simpson, whose side overcame Championship rivals Crystal Palace in the last round, was relishing a tie against one of his old clubs.

He told Sky Sports News: 'It's a fantastic draw for us, I have wonderful memories of my time at Man City and we hope we'll get a full house at Deepdale for it. It's a great day to look forward to.

'It will be a very tough game. I went to watch them in the (third-round) replay against Sheffield Wednesday and they're a good side.

'To be at home gives us a really good opportunity, if we carry on with our home form, to continue to the next round.'

Ties to be played February 17/18
Chelsea v Blackpool/Norwich City
Watford v Ipswich Town
Preston North End v Manchester City
Plymouth Argyle v Derby County
Manchester United v Reading
Arsenal/Bolton Wanderers v Blackburn Rovers
Bristol City/Middlesbrough v West Bromwich Albion
Fulham v Tottenham Hotspur

No one league further down in League one :( :( but seem to be putting in a solid run for promotion.....

Hectic, i did not know that. Also, am i the only that would prefer each league to have a reasonable name like league 1, 2, 3 etc instead of the premiership, then the championship then league 1?! It makes no sense!

Denilson is gonna be the player to watch over the next few seasons :)

One day fulham will win the premiership. But not his season. lol

Middlesbrough v West Brom
The town of Middlesbrough was once voted amongst the sh*ttest in the United Kingdom, and on Tuesday night in the FA Cup their Premiership side served up a performance against Bristol City that was the footballing equivalent of a steaming turd.

Miraculously, Boro are in the hat for Round Five, and the layers somehow have them as odds-on jolly's against a West Brom side who had not tasted defeat since January 1. The Baggies have also won their last four away from The Hawthorns and whatever way you look at it the 4/1 being offered on them extending that sequence to five simply has to be jumped on.
Betting: West Brom to beat Middlesbrough at 4/1 (Betfred).

Plymouth v Derby
Conditions at Home Park are unlikely to be vintage this weekend and while it may not suit some of the more flamboyant ball-players on show it will be meat and drink to one man. Stevie Howard has plied his trade at all levels of the Football League and you can wager dollars to donuts he won't be fazed by a bit of cold and rain.

Derby are flying in the Championship and, in short, the big man looks too big to score first.
Betting: Howard to score first at 6/1 (Hills).

Manchester United v Reading
Manchester United are winning so much right now I hear Sir Alex Ferguson was fuming he didn't pip James Morrison for Best British Male at the Brit Awards earlier in the week. Had he been there he could have done worse than give Take That the hairdryer treatment for one of the worst live performances I have seen since watching Hartlepool lose 8-1 at home to Plymouth.

Now where were we? Ah yes, United v Reading. The Red Devils, as expected, are massive favourites to win this one but the Royals are not without hope. Indeed I wouldn't be totally surprised to see them sneak a replay here and for this reason they look a solid punt at almost 3/1 with a goal start.
Betting: Reading (+1) at 11/4 to beat Manchester United on Match Handicap (Stan James).

Fulham v Tottenham
Despite the year not ending in a '1' Spurs fans will be quietly thinking of rekindling Ossie's Dream this year and hoping Martin Jol is at last 'going to win the Cup for Totting-ham'. To do this they will have to get something from Craven Cottage, a ground they have not won on in almost five years.

Spurs have been very inconsistent on their travels this season, but then so have Fulham, who are just about keeping their heads above water in the Premiership. Neither side make great appeal at the prices but if you really must have a wager do so on Robbie Keane to find the net. He owes them right now.
Betting: Robbie Keane to score anytime at 9/4 (Hills).
