It Would Have Been Embarrassing If Chelsea Were Champs
I am Chelsea fan, and I have to say part of me is glad we won't win the title this year. United and Arsenal have been so much better than us this year that to have beaten them to the title would have been wholly embarrassing.

It would have been a terrible example for English football, and as the teams below routinely follow the trends of the successful teams at the top, it could have set the league back years, just when we were starting to see some genuinely entertaining sides appear from the mid-table group.

Jose's teams were criticised for being boring, but that was largely because they could play with style and go 2 goals up, but would then take their foot of the gas and kill the game when everyone wanted them to press on and get 4 or 5 - Avram Grant's current side can't even get started. Jose's teams may have been defensive and organised, but they could attack when they wanted - they never looked so clueless as Chelsea have done lately.

I appreciate that when a new manager comes in halfway through the season, he doesnt want to rock the boat too much in terms of playing style, yet what made Grant think he could just continue playing the Jose Mourinho way? Jose was pretty good. What we are left with is a team trying to operate on auto-pilot, hoofing the ball to Drogba and hoping something would happen. The squad Chelsea have is so much better than most of the others in the league that the victories still came, but the Chelsea fans have known for a while now that things were simply not working. The performances against Wigan, Fenerbache, Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Olympiakos.... were some of the most appalling games of football i have ever witnessed.

Grant will no doubt be given the summer to get rid of the chaff - Malouda, Sidwell, Wright Phillips, Pizarro, Ballack (I wish) - and bring in some new blood, but things need to change fast, because the fans have never taken to him and at this rate never will.

So anyway, congrats to United for some scintillating football and a deserved title - and Chelsea fans, at least it wasn't Liverpool!
