I was listening to Malcom speed on radio tonight and he said that the ICC dont set the prices for the tickets, that comes from the host nation. He did say that perhaps the ICC need more involvement in this area.
He also said that the length of the WC is fine, although he said it could be reduced only by 3 or 4 or 5 days max. The reason it must stay long he said was so that cricket gets a maximum exposure on the ' back pages' of newspapers etc, and he also mentioned that when sides tour countries, they are often there longer than the length of the WC.

I personally can't see myself being too interested in another WC if it is this long again. They are trying to get the best of both worlds, a good tournament with all of the big guys playing each other so that can capitalise on the TV. Money is the root of all evil. The funny thing is that it backfired this time. No India/Aus WC match.

I think I would tend to agree to with that.
I've really enjoyed all this cricket - there's been a match on ever day, just about, for the last 5 weeks. I've really enjoyed it.
I know several players have complained but it's not like they can say they're tired - the gap between games has been very generous.
And, hey, its the carribean!

I have to disagree. Every world cup has its injustices (and we've gotten more than our share).
That's part and parcel of it all. Cricket is far more demanding that a soccer game (something referenced in another post). With the cricket cup as long as it is and providing for a team to lose and come back is it shows the best team over a period of time. We all know that anyone can win a game on the day.
And if Aus blow it at the 2nd last hurdle then tough ****.
And going back to the soccer analogy - there are 32 teams in a world cup as opposed to far fewer teams in the cricket world cup. With 32 teams there is a need to eliminate teams as quickly as possible in order for it not to be a 3 month tournament.

Don't forget, this is ODI cricket - it can happen to anyone given the wrong conditions. There is always that gamble element. I just hope which ever way it goes, THE BOOKIES LOSE OUT BIG TIME!!!!

Well, last night we saw that NZ's luck in the World Cup has finally ran out.
Like Boodles said, it's actually amazing what they've achieved with the players they've got, but in the end, it's quality players that makes the difference - and they don't have too many to choose from.
Also looking forward to Wednesday's game, should be a cracker!!

The only time in this world cup that Australia have looked under pressure was when Smthy and AB were hiting out against them in our match.
Now we have to just stretch that out to a full 50 overs.

Ye Kingkrob, iwould ahve to agree. It is amazing how well they do. They essentially have 1 batsmen (Fleming), 1 fast bowler (Bond), and 1 spinner (Vettori). The thing is these three are world beaters and the others play around them. I feel that their batting is the real weak point. They dont have any real solid batsmen, all bits and pieces. If they had another 2 quality batsmen they would be able to compete on all pitches, not jst the ones they are used to. That said tho, Bond is better than al our fast bowlers and vettori is better than all our nonexistant spinners.... I still think we shuda had paul harris in this team. He did so well in tests and really shuda been given a chance in ODIS. I dont like petersons bowling, very flat no bounce or real variation and ppl jst hit him with ease

Yeah, but with that weak batting lineup they chased some real big totals against the Aussies in the last ODI series so if it's their day they can really tear you apart.
And yes, Australia don't look comfortable against us at all, I'm sure Boodles will disagree but it's true. When Smith and AB were smashing them in the group match, I could see a bit of panic of Ponting's face, probably thinking "oh **** mate, not another 438
". He even said he was a bit worried at the post match interview. I believe SA is gonna hand them a whuppin' but if they beat us then they deserve to win the cup.Well cricket as fair game is not really true. It would suck if the pitch dictated who won, but if Aus lost due to pitch conditions I can bet every last cent that there will be major complaints and not the SA attitude of when it goes wrong it just goes wrong. Hopefully wednesday's game will be like the st kitts where the conditions seem to be the same except this time SA gonna win

Yeah I have to agree with the SA vs NZ match. It's pretty sad to see Smith losing the game their in the middle with 2 cricketers and 2 officials. Anybody who has seen the first part of the match and knows something about cricket, would know that that pitch was MAJOR K@K for the first 15 overs.
This was in the stark contrast the article on cricinfo.com about the match. Bloody idiot Andrew Miller. I will NEVER read an article about his **** point of view again. Since when do make brush of comments of one the best batsmen in the game as rubbish talk. The man should stay away from cricket, because he knows nothing of it.

...go check the worldcup stats.... out of all the flak they (smith and kallis) have been receiving , they are within the top 5 scoring batsmen....
so the pressure is rather on AB , Prince and most importantly - Gibbs!

We can see from the World Cup stats for batsmen & bowlers where the problem is - we've got a few batsmen in the top 10, but almost no bowlers.

I have a concern. Maybe that's too strong a word - more a thought.
If we win on Wednesday (and I'm feeling pretty pumped about that) it will feel like we've won the world cup.
Then on Saturday we're so relieved we blow it.

I think Smith and the guys finally get it that we gotta keep focus until the job is actually DONE, watching us bat against England I could see that they didn't just start ambling along when they got near to the target, they smashed until they got home. Hopefully they'll keep that sort of attitude against the Aussies and in the final (yes we're going to the final). Smith knows that we can't support our soccer team so SA is 100% behind them in bringing that shiny little gold beauty back to SA with them.

Actually I kinda think that the final might be sort of an anti-climax after the SA/AUS game, irrespecting of who wins on wed. This match would have made for a far more exciting final.
