2007 NZ tour to SA thread

/Bows...

NZ were a pile of shiite.

They need to jack up their system or something. Mediocre cricket from NZ aint good enough.

Really dissapointed in them this tour.

/As for the Aussies - Go, Go - Go!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Read somewhere that NZ have only played 8 tests in the past 2 years, so maybe their lack of experience is starting to show. That's not really the fault of the players, but the administrators. Kinda feel bad for them, hope they do better in the ODI's

Yeah it was a bit disappointing seeing the NZers playing like a bunch of schoolgirls, but yeah, watching SA demolish them was pretty fun too. :D

Well as I recall it was mainly one guy responsible for demolishing the kiwis!

And considering that Brett Lee doesn't yet have a 10 wicket match haul, and he now has two in a row, only makes me glee :D

Come on now, tell me that this doesn't make you feel proud of our boy :p

Lee:
Code:
Mat Inns Balls Runs Wkts BBI BBM Ave Econ SR 4w 5w 10
 60 118 12548 7412 239 5/30 8/112 31.01 3.54 52.5 13 7 0
Steyn:
Code:
Mat Inns Balls Runs Wkts BBI BBM Ave Econ SR 4w 5w 10
15 28 2709 1731 71 6/49 10/91 24.38 3.83 38.1 3 6 2

Let's hope that we've finally found our Donald replacement.

Those are very impressive stats for the start of Steyn's test career. Lets hope he stays injury-free and gets even better with experience.

No mention of Amla's century or freakish runout skills? :(

lol that run-out was awesome. It's good to finally see him get runs, but he still needs a bit of work on his technique. Bringing the bat down from gully, people will eventually work him out. Promising nonetheless.

The question is with all this talent finally coming through, who do we leave out? Because they all earned a place in the side. Morne Morkel should be fit again for the matches against the Windies (poor guys keep coming back for a hiding :D), so who should be dropped? Maybe Prince (one batsman short then)? Or Harris (no spin option then)? Questions questions :(

prince is vice captain i dont think he'l get dropped...but you never know

The only way I see Prince being dropped is for Duminy. Otherwise the "balance" of the team will be a bit pale.

If there ever was a time to drop Smith it would be now. He can go play some supersport series cricket for the Cobras and get some form back. And I am sure anybody can captain us to victory against the Windies. But, that will never happen.

wow. u actually changing ur view on smith. last week u were all for him and this week ur not. haha :)

Not changing any views, I believe Smith is a very good batsmen and captain. People were attacking Smith for all sorts of silly reasons and was merely trying to make the point that batsmen, especially opening batsmen, sometime lose their wickets to good balls.

But Smith's issues with his technique is getting worse, its the worse I have seen it in a long time, and he will struggle to sort it out at the top level (maybe Windies don't qualify as top level, so it might work out after all).

So he might as well miss a test or two and play some 4 day franchise cricket for the Cobras.

I also never said he is a daft this or fat that or the biggest whatever most other people call him, so not sure where I changed any views ??

ya they do lose it to good balls sometimes, but smith's problems are obvious. his technique is flawed. on the other hand, look at Amla. doesn't have the nicest technique, but he makes it work and scores tons of runs. smith could learn a thing or two from him. smith should do more talking on the field, than off.

i'm referring to the point in which u said he shouldn't be dropped last week. u said that all batsmen go thru dips in form(which i agree with). this week ur saying he should be dropped. that's cool i don't have a problem with that. i think anyone would agree that smith needs to be dropped.

Thats exaclty what I am talking about.

People have been saying the same old sh$t about Smith for years.

Crappy technique and talks too much.

But thats the same technique he had when he scored 2 double centuries in England and all the other runs he has ever scored. You don't score 4500 runs in 50 odd tests and get your name on numerous batting achievement lists by scoring single figure scores every game.

And he has learned to watch his mouth as well over the last year or so. He manages to stay out of the media a bit more recently. But still people attack him on the same old issues.

When he struggles for runs, like now, the flaws in his technique gets worse and, in my opinion, our coach does not have the ability to take Smith through that.

i agree with u, but is it wise to say that it's the same technique that got him the double-hundreds? surely he has improved his batting since when he started? i believe that as batsmen get older, they learn more about their batting and they improve on that. to me that means that smith has improved on his technique, after scoring his double-hundreds.
