A good team captain has to be able to play all forms of the game. Amla doesnt have the outgoing personality nor the fast scoring ability to perform well in 20/20 or 50 over a side cricket.

Englands a better team since hes been there.
I never said he should be dropped from the team, hes a good batsmen!
Although I still say the team wins matches, not directly linked to Smith in anyway.

I agree here, 3 and 5 day tests suit him fine until he can knock back a Red Bull or 2 and bat a bit quicker and up his strike rate.

I hate to say this but I think Ponting fits the bill of a "good team captain", he performs well in all forms of the game and handles pressure like a pro.

STFU!! (Lol no offence) I never said Amla for captain, never even made reference to it.....:rolleyes:

I think he does, what makes you think he doesnt? Because for some reason hes branded a test palyer? He made his way up playing ODIs he can play ODIs better than some of the scraps they had in the 20twenty WC.
 
yea, Ponting is definately a quality captain and player. No getting away from that... unfortunately :p
 
Gilchrist does a fairly good job to.

I wont disagree with you on the point of him being a better player than some of the players in our last 20/20 team :p
 
Its under the bridge now, but I do hope they make Amla play in the ODIs this season, it will be a sin to not give him a chance.

Yep, if he does poorly against NZ then they candrop him from the ODI side against the Windies. I'd also like to see him play in the ODIs but the fact is he's not suited to that format, he might have a great match once in a while but we need consistently good players.

Lol thats just it, when and who branded the guy? Is it because he can play such a good quality test game?
Hes adaptable IMO play a test like a test, play and ODI like an ODI!!

As consistent as??? AB not doing to well since the WC... wheres his consisitency>? Minus his fielding.

You got me, our side as a whole isn't consistent. WA and T20 cups are testiment to that. Kallis I guess would be Mr. Consistent.

While AB has not being doing well of late if you compare Amla in the last 5 test matches to AB (excluding Amla's 176), Amla has an average of 15 and AB has 28. Neither of the scores are good enough. Amla was also lucky because he was dropped on 2 which would have made matters far worse. Amla needs to work on his technique. He has some flaws and teams have already worked him out. He has the potential to be a really good test batsmen but it will take hard work.

One thing that does supprise me is that these blokes (who normally get paid an arm an a leg), don't go out and get their own coach. Instead they rely on the coach of the day.
 
Selection and captaincy issues aside, I think we are at the beginning of some exciting times in test cricket.

We have the Windies coming in December/January and then we go to Bang ladesh and India before the serious stuff starts in June.

In June we go to Eng and over December/January we play Australia in 6 test.

In my opinion it is the first time in many years that we have a side that (given things fall into place over the next 6 months) can compete with the Aussies. And at the very least with England.

After the NZ series we should also be sitting at no. 3 in the Rankings, much better than last years 6th in the rankings.
 
I think we have a very good bowling lineup. With the likes of morne morkel waiting to come back and some other players which bodes well for SA. I think we still need more depth in our batting though. Our opening pair are a bit shaky. I guess finding good openings pair is a worldwide problem at the moment except Aus...
