Hi folks

We are glad to announce that this year’s Wireless broadband report is now available. The results in the report are based on subscriber feedback from the recent broadband survey and testing done by MyBroadband and an independent tester from the University of Witwatersrand.

Please note what the percentages mean:
The percentage given for each broadband service is an indication of how close the service is to a hypothetical offering comprising of the best components in each of the categories. This value is weighed to accentuate more important components like price, performance and reliability.

Your feedback is welcome as usual.

Regards,

RPM

Eavesdropping on exchanges between MTN and Vodacom at the MyADSL conference today there is evidently there is much healthy rivalry between the two telecos for first position in the MyADSL ratings- congrats to Vodacom for placing first with MTN a close second... extra kudos to MTN for starting the price war.

[*Virtual Clap of Hands for Vodacom*]

Now Telkom must just hurry up with that extra backhaul capacity.

Mr.

I am surprised at the high rating received by Vodacom as a Broadband ISP.
I live in George and have been a contract payer of Vodacom My meg 500 since May 2007. 95% of the time I have very slow speeds and often I am disconnected and have to start the frustration of connecting all over again.
Also when connecting i have to select Vodacom SA as a APN as vodafone appears as a default APN. I have queried Vodacom about this but was told that is how it works. This i cannot accept.

MTN vs Vodacom

Wonderful report! There's no name at the bottom, has this independent reviewer tried both operators service in any rural area? Subjectivity is like taste! Some people drink whiskey others like tea!

Tests were performed all across the country by the survey respondents, but the official testing was only done in Gauteng...

I don't think this would provide any conclusive results. If it is outside the true coverage area of the service then you can't expect to be testing performance indicators accurately.

Just a question on subscriber feedback, is this a weighted average?
It is well known that Vodacom has a lot more SA subscribers than MTN and thus will have a higher percentage of feedback.
Also, from mutterings by Vodacom employees that they are 'oversubscribed' and these volumes (of subscribers) have slow access speeds as a result doesn't seem to hold true looking at the ratings.

As for iBurst rating, I'm truly shocked to see that. Clearly some members in this forum did not use the same iBurst!

Was it factored in that subscribers might not had exposure to other offerings to compare their own service offering too?

RPM, when will the new one be out? + Any info on conference details this year, yet?
We must first do the survey - working on it. And the conference will most likely be 27 November this year...working on that too :)
