Johannesburg - Confidence in whether SA will be ready to host the 2010 World Cup dropped 6% from last month's measurement by research company African Response, due to negativity over power cuts, the company said on Wednesday.

"While confidence remains high, it has dropped by 6% from the last month's measurement. This drop was anticipated given the recent negativity related to power cuts experienced throughout the country," the company said in a statement.

However, the company's monthly "2010 Barometer" showed that of the 400 South Africans surveyed, 62% believed the country would "make a plan" to ensure the success of the soccer spectacle.

Of the 400 people polled, 21% indicated their doubt and 17% were unsure.

On Tuesday, deputy president Phumzile Mlambo Ngcuka said tenders to provide generators for the key 2010 soccer World Cup venues would be issued at the end of May.

I can just see it:

Hi guys, you can only play on half the field as we only have enough electricity to power half the stadium

lol. the 2010 world cup isnt going anywhere. record revenues alone will keep the world cup in RSA..thats FIFA's main aim with any world cup.

fifa requires two back up generators for all stadia and stadium precincts.

It's another biased question, though. I believe they'll make a plan to keep the stadiums running - by cutting off power to the rest of the country. I see that as a negative, not as a positive "don't worry, they'll make a plan!".

Does Eskom even know we hosting the world cup in 2010??!!:rolleyes:
 
Tenders will be offered at the end of may but dont bother applying unless you willing to buy someone a car.
 
Isn't 1,200 a normal sample size for a survey of this level?

Either way, the cup is staying in SA. Bank on that.

Not if the 1,200 people are all illiterate and have no idea what box they're ticking
