2012 Mac Mini and SSD poor performance

Not to mention that if developers have been shifted off OS X to iOS (as has been reported/rumoured) then even less likely it will be out in the shorter term.

I read that too last week. And on more than one site. IIRC, the same happened during Leopard dev and the result was that Leopard was a dog (not a cat) and many users regarded Snow Leopard as a fix rather than a new OS

On a Mac, open Terminal and cd to the folder that contains the file that you downloaded. If the file name is mountainlion.app then type the following:

md5 mountainlion.app

Then press enter. It will take a few seconds and then give you the MD5 checksum which you can then use to compare to the source file's checksum to verify its integrity. If the site you found it on did not publish it, jut google the code and you should get several hits. If you get no hits, its almost guaranteed to be corrupt or its been messed with.

Apologies for necromancing!

Just to confirm... So after repeatedly failing to re-download ML from my AppStore, I sought other means to get my hands on it. I don't like going that route - but have justified it by reasoning that I have a legit version of ML installed, I'm just obtaining a copy from somewhere else, since I'm battling to get the copy I would be entitled to from the source... :(

So. Having run the checksum on the DMG file, it matches with the code listed over TonyMacx86's Hackintosh page, so I'm thinking it's corrupt-free.

Is that it? Do I simply copy the DMG onto my Flashdisk? If used in conjunction with my Time-Machine backups, am I now able to do all that is required, in the event that I have a catastrophic failure on my MBP - or is there something else that is required?

Apologies for what is no doubt a very silly question - but I'd rather err on the side of caution!

Apologies for belabouring this point - but would appreciate it if someone more knowledgable can confirm if this looks about right, so that I can tick this off from the To-Do list! :)

Does it look like everything that should be there, is?

See I told you there are other places to get the same thing :p :D

I don't see why you should worry about where you get it from. You already have a legit version so there is no moral quandary here.

Imagine how much time you would have saved if you went down this path earlier on...

Ja - I've seen the light! :p

The trigger got pulled on upgrading to Uncapped w/ 4mg line yesterday, so this was my maiden run... Still had the hell choked out of it by Telkom (I presume), but +/- 6 hours for 4,4GB is not too bad, I suppose??

Any ideas if the finished product on my USB looks OK?

To the OP - if you haven't come right - drop me a PM. I have a bootable copy of ML on a USB disc ready to go.

yep. Thats all that s in the DMG. And it does work, I finally got a copy and created the bootable flash. was then able to do a fresh install and then restore my files from Time Machine Backup.

Thanks for the offer, but after countless downloads of ML, I finally found a DMG that works. Have made sure I keep it somewhere safe as to not go through this again :D

Much of awesomeness - thanks - good to know!

Okay great. Please let me know if the fresh install works. I would like to see the speed difference on an SSD with an image Vs fresh install.

the fresh install worked and then I restored my data from the time machine backup. Too be honest I am not sure wether it was worth all that trouble... I havent really noticed much of a performance differnce between the two but to be honest also haven't been doing too much testing as I have been extremely busy but doubt there would be much of a difference

There should be a big difference. Read / Write times should be much higher. Also, there is almost no delay on an SSD - where as a normal HDD will have spin up / down times and this is where most of the delay comes.

Can you run a test on the SSD and see what their read and write speeds are?
