South Africa's 2017 Car of the Year is...
South Africa’s 2017 Car of the Year is the Opel Astra.
The winner was announced at a cocktail banquet at Kyalami on Wednesday night and it beat eight other finalists, namely the Audi A4, Hyundai Tucson, Jaguar F-Pace, Honda Civic, Opel Astra, Renault Kadjar, Toyota Fortuner, Volkswagen Tiguan and Volkswagen Passat.
Second was the Audi A4, with the Volkswagen Passat third.
The SA Guild of Motoring Journalists / Wesbank Car of the Year competition is judged by 28 jury members, including IOL’s Jason Woosey. All jurors spent two days evaluating the finalists in a variety of conditions in Gauteng earlier this year.
The jurors then scored each finalist in 12 categories that covered exterior design, interior materials, layout, technology, engine, gearbox, engineering, ride, steering/handling, affordability, value and overall excellence.
SA Coty is not a direct comparison between the finalists, rather the jury members assess each car in relation to its natural market rivals.

The 10 finalists were selected by the South African Guild of Motoring Journalist (SAGMJ) and each car put through its paces during a two-day evaluation period at the Kyalami race track in Gauteng.
And the winner is...

The Opel Astra has been crowned the 2017 SA Car of the Year besting 9 other finalists for the top spot. The Audi A4 took second place with the Volkswagen Passat in third.

I'm loving this so much! Yes, those VAG products truly are inferior to the Special K.
Cars that should not even be on that list is the Mazda and Renault. I would have liked if the 2nd place went to the Jag and 3rd place to the Tux On.

It doesn't have the extended fuel tank behind the seats though so you'd have to leave the aircon off for that trip....
