I've had a few Opels, they are great cars. Some can be a bit bland but if they are looked after they will last a very long time. I kept my Astra G up to 236,000km and my team manager got 350,000km on his before selling it in perfect running condition.
Where they go wrong, and horribly so, is if not well maintained. This is German cars so services need to happen on time and done correctly.
I've had the exact same experience with Peugeot. So many dodgy ones not taken care of, but if well maintained they last.
My next car will most likely be the Astra J sedan :
