2016 Renault Megane (4th Generation)

Renault supporting CarPlay in Megane, Scenic, Talisman & more from April

Renault has announced that many of its new cars will offer CarPlay compatibility from April.

R-LINK 2, available in Megane, Scenic, Talisman, etc will be compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Our clients will benefit of the widest combination ever: onboard R-LINK apps and Google/Apple apps. All integrated onto the car screen – with easy switch from one to the other. The customer has the choice, safely, thanks to voice control straight from the steering wheel.

The announcement is a little vague – including that ‘etc’ in the quote above – but appears to indicate that CarPlay support will not be available in either the Clio or Captur …

The blog post states that while R-LINK 2 will support CarPlay, R-LINK Evolution, available in the Clio and Captur, will only support Android Auto. We’ve reached out to Renault and will update with any response.

All new Renaults will also get three years of TomTom Live Traffic coverage.

We’ve seen a flurry of new CarPlay announcements from manufacturers this week, including Honda with the Civic Type R and Clarity, and Porsche with the 911 GT3. We’ve also done a roundup of the best aftermarket head units if you want to add CarPlay support to your existing car.

Renault sneaks Mégane RS teaser into Facebook vid

To celebrate reaching one million Facebook fans, Renault Sport has posted a video featuring various iconic RS models. Watch it to the very end, however, and you’ll find a teaser image of the new Mégane RS, complete with a cheeky exhaust note and the words “coming soon”.

The teaser shot doesn’t give very much away (what with the car hiding under an RS-branded cover), but it does reveal that the new Mégane RS – which will take on the likes of the Honda Civic Type R (read about the latest model here) – will boast full-LED headlamps as well as a new interpretation of the chequered flag lighting setup first seen on the facelifted Clio RS.

Rumours suggest that the new Mégane RS will come in five-door flavour only, powered either by a new version of the French brand’s 2,0-litre turbocharged petrol engine or a 1,8-litre unit similar to that used in the new Alpine A110.

Exactly when the new hot hatch will be revealed remains to be seen, but a debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September is looking increasingly likely.

New Renault Megane RS Teased

Renault has released a teaser image of its forthcoming Megane RS hot hatch and in the words of Renault Sport, it’s “coming soon 2017”.

The new Renault Megane RS is expected to be revealed later this year, possibly at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show, and it will rival the lauded Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport and Honda Civic Type R in the hot hatch stakes.

Renault Sport recently achieved 1 million likes on Facebook and released a retrospective video to celebrate the occasion (see the video below). At the end of the video, the new Megane RS can be seen under a cover showing its LED headlight signature as well as the chequered flag lighting elements in the lower bumper, as seen on the facelifted Clio RS.

The new Megane RS will be a 5-door model and will likely be powered by a new turbocharged 2.0-litre engine or the same 1.8-litre turbocharged engine found in the Alpine A110, which was recently revealed at the Geneva Motor Show.

Further details will be revealed in due course and we will keep you updated as more information becomes available. For now though, check out this cool video released by Renault Sport.

2018 Renault Sport Mégane previewed in new video

Next-gen hot hatch to gain optional dual-clutch automatic gearbox alongside six-speed manual; Nürburgring record attempt on the cards

The 2018 Renault Mégane RS will produce more than 300bhp, with both manual and automatic guises, and has been shown in a new preview video released by Renault.

The future hot hatch will also get four-wheel steering and benefit from the larger platform of the latest Mégane, making it a contender to steal the Nürburgring front-wheel-drive lap record from current champion, the Volkswagen Golf GTI Clubsport S.

Under the bonnet of the hottest fourth-generation Mégane will be a turbocharged 2.0-litre engine. The unit will produce more than 300bhp, making it at least 29bhp more potent than the most powerful version of the old car’s engine.

It will drive the car’s front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox, but a six-speed EDC dual-clutch automatic will almost certainly offered for the first time. While European markets are expected to prefer the manual, markets in Asia will likely have more demand for EDCs.

Due to the lower and longer five-door only platform of the new Mégane, which sits 25mm lower and is 28mm longer than the old car, plus the use of wider tracks, the next Mégane RS is expected to have significantly more mechanical grip.

The use of four-wheel steering will also help to make it more agile at speed while improving the car’s turning circle and enabling Renault Sport to make the steering more alert.

The hottest version of the outgoing Mégane RS, the 275 Cup S, reaches 62mph from rest in 5.8sec. Expect the next Mégane to trim several tenths off that sprint time, making it quicker than the Honda Civic Type R, which takes 5.7sec, and close to the four-wheel-drive Audi S3, which needs 5.2sec.

The car’s sporting design is expected to take influence from the details of the latest Clio RS. The test mule wears a cut-up version of the Mégane GT’s body, with only wheel arch add-ons and a centrally mounted twin-exit exhaust system giving away the true identity of what lies beneath.

Renault has remained tight-lipped about its next hot Mégane, but the brand has at least hinted that the car's arrival date will be some time in 2018. As with the facelifted Clio, expect a small increase in price over that of the current Mégane RS, so a starting price of around £24,000 is likely. We expect to first see it at the Frankfurt motor show, though.

This significantly undercuts the Honda Civic Type R, which starts at £30,000, and ranks the Mégane RS above the less hardcore Ford Focus ST, which starts at £22,750.

Can't wait to see the final product! It will definitely be a car I'll consider in a few years time

2018 Renault Sport Mégane leaks out online

A single image showing the rear of the 2018 Renault Sport Mégane has leaked out; confirms large central exhaust

The next Renault Sport Mégane has leaked ahead of its official unveiling later this year, with the rear of the car on full display.

Although a sheet covers the rest of the car, the full rear can be seen, with a distinctive, trapezoidal exhaust incorporated into a rear diffuser, and a ridged spoiler.

The image leaked onto an automotive spy page; the sheet covering the car suggests a private event at which the car may have been shown.

The RS will look more mature than many of its hot hatch rivals despite having more than 300bhp.

Speaking to Autocar at the Shanghai motor show, brand design boss Stéphane Janin said he believed Renault Sport's next model would be better off flaunting its performance with raw pace rather than lairy design.

"Our brand is not about aggressivity," he said. "We try to have a powerful product but rather simple with sensual shapes. That's what we tried to make with the next RS, which is actually harder than going aggressive I think. To find the right balance is harder but I think we have done it."

The car, which was recently previewed in an official video (above), will be the most potent Megane produced yet. It will get four-wheel steering and benefit from the larger platform of the latest Mégane, making it a contender to steal the Nürburgring front-wheel-drive lap record from current champion, the Honda Civic Type R.

2018 Renault Sport Mégane previewed ahead of Monaco GP reveal

A single image showing the front of the 2018 Renault Sport Mégane has been released

The next Renault Sport Mégane will make its world debut ahead of the Monaco Grand Prix this weekend.

Renault Sport F1 driver Nico Hulkenberg will drive the new hot hatch, which has more than 300bhp, around the street circuit on Friday (26 May).

Ahead of the demonstration, Renault Sport has released a single preview image that shows the front of the car. It gets a thick front spoiler and more aggressive bumper design.

An earlier leaked image (see below), showed the car's rear, with a distinctive, trapezoidal exhaust incorporated into a rear diffuser, and a ridged spoiler.

The image leaked onto an automotive spy page; the sheet covering the car suggested it was at a private event at which the car may have been shown.

NEW MÉGANE RS TEASED AHEAD OF MONACO DEBUT

Renault says that the new Mégane RS will make its first public appearance at the Monaco Formula 1 Grand Prix, with Nico Hülkenberg flinging it round the famous street track.

The French automaker added that the new Mégane RS would sport a yellow-and-black livery to mark the 40th anniversary of Renault’s involvement in Formula 1.

It’s not yet clear whether the Boulogne-Billancourt-based manufacturer will reveal the technical details and performance figures of the fourth-generation model in Monaco as well, seeing as it adds that the new hot hatch will be officially unveiled at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September.

The latest teaser image confirms that the Mégane RS will employ the distinctive chequered flag lighting signature first seen on the Clio RS. Reports suggest it will remains front-wheel drive (rather than following the Ford Focus RS down the all-wheel-drive road), with power coming from either a fresh 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine or the 1,8-litre mill from the new Alpine A110.

RENAULT CONFIRMS DUAL-CLUTCH FOR NEW MÉGANE RS

The new Renault Mégane RS has made an appearance (again in camouflage) at the Monaco Formula 1 GP, with the French automaker confirming that the next-generation hot hatch will be offered with a choice of manual or dual-clutch transmissions.

Renault said it made the decision to add an EDC option to its upcoming range “to meet customer demand”. The outgoing Mégane RS, of course, was available exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox.

The Boulogne-Billancourt-based automaker provided no other solid details about its new Mégane RS, saying only that it would be officially unveiled at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show in September, before sales kick off in the first quarter of 2018.

“We aim to make new Mégane R.S. the new compact sports car benchmark,” said Patrice Ratti, managing director of Renault Sport Cars.

Despite the disguise, we can see that the new Mégane RS will employ the distinctive chequered flag lighting signature first seen on the Clio RS.

Reports suggest it will remains front-wheel drive (rather than following the Ford Focus RS down the all-wheel-drive road), with power coming from either a fresh 2,0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine or the 1,8-litre mill from the new Alpine A110.

Lol...Many people confuse "announced" with "release". That's why
Even people who work in phone shops do the same thing. Tell you it's coming next month when you know it's being announced next month so should be with us a month or 2 later.

It's so rare to find Sales guys who actually know a lot about not just current products but future ones. When I eventually do find them I always go back to them :D
