You will find a lot of swap deal plus cash in the lower football leagues.

So much for the Mourinho was the problem. I really question these sub 30 guys going to China. Yeah it's a helluva lot of money but it's not like they making peanuts and even at 32+ there is plenty of money still up for grabs there.

It's a **** ton of money though.

He's got plenty of honours already I suppose so cashing in.

I think there's nothing wrong with a player wanting to earn more, especially if they're starting to near the end of their career. However, it's how you do it. You can tell the manager/club that you want to leave, but it has to be within a reasonable period of time (ie. not the in the middle of the season and out of the blue), and once your intentions have been made, at least still be committed to the club until the transfer is complete.

Really not the point. Majority of sportsman want to play at the highest level. He's only 26 and earns 186k a week "just" in wages excluding sponsorships.

A move to China is not going to significantly improve his life and be a massive step down professionally. He's not the average person where more money will mean paying off or getting a better house, car or providing a better education for his kids etc which are the major factors for the average person.

There's definitely a flipside to this. It's easy to try and compare a footballer to a regular working class Joe. Get paid to do something, someone offers you more to do it, it's a no brainer, and you go.

But I think football is different. Every single player is doing the one thing that brings them the most joy: playing football! I doubt most of us on this forum can say the same - that we absolutely love our jobs. These guys are emulating their heroes they grew up watching. They're living their dream. They want to play for the big clubs they grew up supporting. They want to win the big trophies.

So why go to China? Yes, it's purely for the money - I don't think any pro footballer dreamt of winning the Chinese League when he was having a kick about with his mates in the park as a youngster - it was WC or CL final stuff. But, when your body is the one thing that's directly linked to your financial security, and it's beginning to age, I guess you start wondering how much longer it's going to be able to continue providing for you and your family.

Most of these guys (Oscar, etc) came from literally nothing. They don't just use their astronomical wages to buy big houses and fancy cars for themselves - they also use their money to take care of the people that got them where they are today (families back home, etc). Earning £400k a week just means that can go much further, especially if they can no longer play because their bodies are too old, or they get career-ending injuries. While supporters may cry Judas, and say that the players need to be loyal and play for the real trophies not wages, they need to remember that at the end of the day these are men with families they need to provide for - sole bread winners usually, and when their playing days are over, they need to be able to continue doing that. And I don't think anyone, not even working class fans, can judge them on that.

I asked my Chelsea season ticket holding friend how he felt about it. His answer was "Mate, for £30mil, I'd be at the airport already!"
 
Get what you guys are saying but it's a short career and long life after to dwell on these decisions. You saw his little disagreement with Pedro last week I think. Imagine how frustrated he will be in China.

For that much money, I would have bought the plane to get me to China.
