2016 Suzuki Baleno

Suzuki Baleno major update coming early next year with new design cues

Another facelift for the Suzuki Baleno may be coming early next year. Based on a rumour straight out of India, the update is expected to bring with it a plethora of new design cues and improved standard specification but the powertrains may remain untouched.

As per Auto Car India’s report, the major update for the Suzuki Baleno will feature comprehensive restyling to the front and rear. Based on spy shots that the publication has secured, new key elements include an all-new taillamp that will be more square and minor tweaks to the fenders. No images of the front have been acquired but the publication suggests that revisions will be made to mimic changes made to the rear.

Based on information sourced by unnamed sources, it’s understood that the interior of the Suzuki Baleno will also see design tweaks with a particular focus to the dashboard and steering wheel among other changes. Chances are the hatch will receive a full digital instrument cluster and a slightly larger infotainment screen as well which will be a first for any Maruti or Suzuki model sold globally. It could also possibly see the addition of wireless Apple Car Play and Android Auto.

The New Car Assessment Programme for Latin America has crash-tested the Made-In-India Suzuki Baleno. The hatchback has received a 0-star safety rating from Latin NCAP for poor side impact protection.

why is it they sell these cars to 3rd world countries like us and others.
Is it because its an upgrade from a Scooter? or were too uneducated to know?

Suzuki Baleno fails Latin NCAP crash test with zero star result

The Indian-built Suzuki Baleno, which is soon to be updated, has suffered a poor crash test result at the hands of the Latin NCAP. The budget compact hatch was awarded this result due to a poor lever of standard safety features and impact protection.

The Suzuki Baleno achieved 20,03 per cent in Adult Occupant box, 17,06 per cent in Child Occupant box, 64,06 per cent in Pedestrian Protection and Vulnerable Road Users box and 6,98 per cent in Safety Assist box.

The zero stars result is explained by the poor side impact protection, low whiplash score due to the lack of UN32 proof for rear impact test, lack of standard side head protection airbags, lack of standard ESC and the decision of Suzuki of not recommending Child Restraint Systems (CRS) for the test.

The Suzuki Baleno was offered in Europe with six airbags and ESC as standard, while the model in Latin America is not offered with side body and side head airbags (curtain airbags) and ESC as standard, as is the case with the South African model. The Latin NCAP confirms that Suzuki refused to test the optional equipment to show its performance which it says, opens the question of the effectives of those extra safety elements.

2023 Suzuki Baleno Revealed

After a lengthy teaser campaign, the facelifted Suzuki Baleno breaks cover. Here’s all you need to know about the hatchback.

The Suzuki Baleno has been quite a popular hatchback in India, where it is assembled, with Maruti Suzuki claiming one is sold every 3 minutes. It is also in the top 5 best sellers for India. In South Africa, it wasn’t as popular until it gained a Toyota badge and a new name, Starlet.

Visually, you can spot the updated model with a new-look grille with new LED headlights and LED daytime running lights. The rear is where the real changes lie and the new taillights are quite radical. There are new-look 10-spoke 16-inch alloy wheels too. Inside, the cabin gets a slight redesign.

Under the skin, there’s a new suspension setup and the 2023 Suzuki Baleno features a 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated 4-cylinder engine delivering 66 kW and 113 Nm. It’s interesting to note that this particular engine is not offered in the SA-spec Baleno, with our market receiving a punchier 1.6 with 68 kW and 130 Nm. Both manual and automatic gearboxes will be offered.

As far as features go, the 2023 Suzuki Baleno comes fully loaded both in terms of convenience and safety, depending on the level of trim. There’s a 360-degree camera, 6 airbags, AI voice assistance, 9-inch infotainment, connected car tech, heads-up display, electronic stability control, hill hold assist, USB A and USB C ports, and a sound system by Arkamys.

Facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno revealed for Indian market

The Japanese automaker have just debuted their facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno in India. The hatchback will be available in four trim levels with a solitary engine configuration powering the feathery model while the most significant changes have occurred to the exterior.

The Toyota – Suzuki partnership has paid dividends for both brands by providing the former with easy-sell badge engineered models and the latter some insight into alternative powertrains. One of the products of this collaboration; the Baleno, has just undergone a significant update for Suzuki and is set to keep the model relevant for the next few years.

Up front, the facelifted Maruti Suzuki Baleno has adopted a wider aesthetic compliments of a broad honeycomb-patterned ‘NEXWave’ grille and new projector headlights which are also flatter and wrap further around onto the haunches of the fender. A clamshell bonnet, re-profiled bumper and new fog light housings round up the changes while a three-element LED Daytime Running Lamp signature which will be common to all future Maruti Nexa models which include the Ciaz and Igniz.

16-inch alloys line each corner of the car while Maruti has given the Baleno a new suspension setup along with larger 14-inch disc brakes. New C-shaped LED tail-lights which extend onto the tailgate also feed onto the new bumper.

New Suzuki Baleno will launch in SA in June - we have local specifications

- Suzuki Baleno goes upmarket for 2022 with striking new design and intelligent new features.
- GL and GLX versions will be available come June, and you'll be able to buy a GL with an autobox for the first time.
- Suzuki says prices will not rise much despite additional features and technologies as standard.

Earlier this week, the world wide web and social media lit up with new 2022 Suzuki Baleno content. We managed to get a glimpse of the version coming to South Africa at Suzuki's local headquarters in Johannesburg to find out exactly which models we're getting.

Only one new Baleno (a high spec auto) is currently in SA for homologation. The factory that builds this model in India will fire up the South African production run from April 2022, and we'll start to receive the first units from June 2022. They won't tell us how much the derivatives will cost just yet, and we can understand that, as the world is turbulent right now due to the Russia and Ukraine crisis. Instead of speculating around prices, Suzuki SA spokespeople said they would release official pricing in June ahead of the vehicle's media launch.
