Interesting pronunciation of Baleno.

Surely the most common is Ba-lean-o and not Ba-lay-no.

So from that carmag.co.za video and a few other comments in Suzuki threads - have a look at the tyre sizes on the different models ! It seems they come equipped with odd and not readably available and therefore expensive tyres.

Toyota to offer rebadged version of Suzuki Baleno – report

A fresh report out of India claims that Toyota will offer a rebadged version of the Suzuki Baleno under one of a number of new “joint projects” involving the two brands.

In May 2018, the pair of Japanese automakers announced plans to collaborate in the fields of technological development, market development and vehicle production.

According to Livemint, India’s Maruti Suzuki division will supply up to 25 000 examples of the Baleno to Toyota each year, which the latter will sell through its own dealer network in India.

The Indian publication added that the Toyota-badged version of the Gujarat-built Baleno would “undergo some minor changes” both inside and out to set it apart from its Suzuki sibling.

“The decision has already been taken by both headquarters in Japan, and the first vehicle to be launched will be Baleno,” a source told Livemint.

“The changes to be made have already been approved as well and both the companies have already decided on the number of vehicles to be supplied,” the source added.

In addition, the report suggested that the Vitara crossover would later be offered with a Toyota badge, while a Suzuki-badged Corolla was also on the cards.

While it’s not yet clear whether this rumoured project will extend beyond the borders of India, the agreement announced in May indicated that the two automakers were discussing the supply of models developed by Suzuki from “India to African and other markets”.

Facelifted Suzuki Baleno revealed in India (and heading to SA)

The facelifted Suzuki Baleno has been revealed in India, featuring subtly refreshed styling up front and a couple of small changes inside. Suzuki Auto South Africa tells us the updated model should arrive on local shores in either the third or fourth quarter of 2019.

Looking at the lead image above, you’ll immediately notice the new grille and fresh detailing around the foglamps. For the Indian market, LED projector headlamps with daytime-running lights have been added, replacing the old HID items. New two-tone 16-inch alloy wheels, meanwhile, are also available. From what we can tell, no design changes have been made round back.

Inside, you’ll find new seat fabric as well as the option of a black-and-blue dual-tone interior scheme. In India, Maruti Suzuki has fitted the updated Baleno with its latest “Smartplay Studio” infotainment system (with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality), linked to a seven-inch touchscreen. The system furthermore integrates a reversing camera and navigation system (with live traffic), and displays various types of vehicle information.

Models offered in India feature two airbags, ABS with EBD (and brake assist), Isofix child-seat anchors, a speed-alert system and reverse parking sensors. Two new colours (Phoenix Red and Magma Grey) have been added to the range in that country.

From what we can tell, Suzuki hasn’t made any changes to the Baleno’s powertrain, which here in South Africa comes in the form of a naturally aspirated 1,4-litre four-cylinder petrol unit worth 68 kW and 130 N.m, mated to either a five-speed manual or a four-speed automatic transmission. In some overseas markets, a turbocharged 1,0-litre, three-cylinder mill (dubbed Boosterjet, which we sampled on the international launch back in May 2016) is also available. However, Suzuki Auto SA says there are currently no plans to offer this turbopetrol locally.

Fresh Suzuki Baleno for SA

Suzuki has given its Baleno hatchback a makeover and the facelifted model is due to arrive in South Africa in September 2019.

The Baleno slots in above the Swift hatchback (2018/19 #CarsAwards Budget Car champion) in Suzuki’s local vehicle range and while it may not be as popular as the Swift, it has still managed to sell fairly well on local soil.

Now, customers can expect to see a revised Baleno arrive in South Africa in the third quarter of 2019. In terms of engine firepower, the Baleno will retain its naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre petrol engine with 68 kW and 130 Nm of torque, mated to either a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed automatic transmission.

Suzuki has refined the Baleno’s face with a new upper grille section, a more striking front bumper and a revised lower air intake. The fog lamps have also been repositioned to suit the new look.

South African specification has yet to be confirmed but models currently on sale in India are fitted with 16-inch alloy wheels as well as LED projector headlights.

On the inside, Suzuki has upgraded the infotainment system to include a new 7-inch SmartPlay Studio system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Additional safety features such as parking sensors and a speed alert system have been added to the standard specification list.

We will keep you updated as soon as local pricing and specification details become available.

Suzuki SA upgrades Ignis and Baleno's infotainment

Suzuki Auto South Africa has upgraded the infotainment systems on the flagship GLX versions of its Ignis and Baleno, with the latest-generation Smartphone Linkage Display Audio (SLDA) arrangement offering Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.

The upgraded seven-inch touchscreen-based system is now standard equipment on the GLX models, and can be controlled via voice command, steering wheel-mounted buttons or the screen itself.

This larger display also functions as the monitor for the reversing camera, which is now standard on GLX models in the Ignis and Baleno ranges.

Suzuki Auto SA says it has also included the MirrorLink system to allow users of other smartphone makes to mirror their home screens on the display as well. Of course, the SLDA system also features Bluetooth connectivity and comes with an additional SD card slot, too.

Suzuki has introduced a new infotainment system for the range-topping Baleno hatchback and Ignis GLX crossover derivatives.

Buyers who are considering the Suzuki Baleno hatchback and Ignis crossover will be pleased to know that the top-spec GLX derivatives are now equipped with Suzuki’s latest Smartphone Linkage Display Audio (SLDA) system with a 7-inch infotainment touchscreen.

The system incorporates Apple CarPlayAndroid Auto and MirrorLink functionality while also offering Bluetooth, voice commands and steering wheel mounted controls. The larger screen also serves as a reverse monitor as a reversing camera is fitted as standard on the Baleno GLX and Ignis GLX.

The Baleno GLX is powered by a naturally-aspirated 1.4-litre petrol engine with 68 kW and 130 Nm and is mated to either a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. Pricing for the Baleno GLX starts at R330 900 for the manual and R254 900 for the automatic derivative.

As for the Ignis GLX, it makes use of a 1.2-litre petrol engine with 61 kW and 113 Nm and is also offered with a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission. The Ignis is priced from R196 900 for the manual and R211 900 for the automatic.

So Suzuki just updated the "Infotainment System" on the GLX mode but we are still expecting a newer model in the 3rd/4th quarter? I read online that the ETA is September for the new model. Dealer that I have spoken to wont confirm or deny.

Suzuki Celerio and Baleno axed from UK sale

Suzuki UK drops value-focused city car and supermini due to “refocusing” on best-selling models

Suzuki has confirmed it has discontinued its two cheapest models - the Celerio city car and Baleno supermini - in the UK in a revamp of its product line-up.

The Skoda Citigo and Honda Jazz rivals are still visible on the company’s UK site, but a spokesman said that from the end of this month, no further new, unregistered cars will be available to buy from stock. A limited number of ex-demonstrator cars will be sold, though.

Suzuki says it is “refocusing its model range to cater for the high popularity of its best-selling UK models" – those being the Ignis, Swift, S-Cross and Vitara.

“This has resulted in sales of Celerio and Baleno being discontinued for the UK only. Suzuki is also preparing its range for future emission regulations in 2020, of which details will be confirmed and announced in the future.”

The Celerio and Baleno, launched in 2015 and 2016 respectively, were never strong sellers for the brand in Europe. Suzuki registered around 15,000 Balenos across the region in 2018, compared with 37,000 Honda Jazzes and 55,000 Swifts.

I wouldn't have expected the Celerio to be sold in the UK in the first place - it seems a bit too basic and not very European so to speak. I wonder how it is doing in Australia ?

Both the Celerio and Baleno are Maruti Suzuki in origin - that is probably part of the problem.
