2016 Suzuki Baleno

Hi

I wonder if anyone can provide some insight in to this. I am wanting to pull the trigger on a 2019 Suzuki Baleno GL. 35k on clock, no accidents, very clean vehicle, for R160k.

I am hearing from some people that parts for the Baleno are very difficult to source. Particularly aftermarket. Due to not the best sales numbers even dealers are not stocking and they must be brought in with a 6 week wait some times. As a result also the Baleno parts are pricey. I also hear that the Toyota equivalent parts ate interchangeable and they selling well so shouldn't be a problem.

Are there any Baleno owners that can comment and who has informed & knowledgable info to share? I would love to hear.

My plan B is a Ford Figo sedan

Don't worry about parts, it's an almost new vehicle and won't be needing parts, except for your normal service parts, which will be available or Suzuki can quickly someone over to Toyota to get them for you.

Don't buy a Figo, it's a Ford.

I wish I could not "worry about parts", my plan is not to buy a new car every year.

Had a Ford Ikon for 10 years and was very happy with it, so I'm not that worried about Ford. You had a different personal experience than me?

Yes, a colleague has a newer shape Figo, 2016 or 2018 model, not sure, it stalled on him multiple times after buying it, car would idle okay but just had no power to move an inch, the problem would happen at random and without warning.

Ford were non the wiser as to what was the problem because the car will come back to life as if nothing had happened, last time I went to help him we disconnected the battery and it sorted the problem, next time he tried the trick it did not work. Ford finally replaced some electronic control module and that seems to have sorted the issue for now.

Ford can be faultless or they can have baffling issues that can leave you in tears, no one deserves to live like that, a car should work, if there's an issue it should be easily identified and fixed, for some reason when a Ford has issues even Ford seems to struggle diagnosing or fixing the issue.

My niece has the Fiesta, 2006 Duratec, it works most of the time but out of the blue it would just throw a transmission light and act funny, Ford would reset it and all would be well until she forgets about it, then the problem will reappear, sometimes it does not affect the driving of the car, sometimes it does, she has learnt to live with it like that.

No, but I know it's Japanese and that's what you buy when you have plenty of things to worry about and you have no time for car troubles, when last have you heard or seen a complaint about some Suzuki car? I have never seen a single one.
 
Toyota rebrand the Baleno as the Starlet and sell a bucket load if them.
Parts will not be an issue at all.

are you able to weigh in on my question regarding parts for the not “Boleno” please
 
The K14b engine used in the Baleno and Starlet is the same engine that was used in the previous generation Swift and it's still used in the Ciaz and Ertiga, so the car might be new but the engine is certainly not, so I suspect the shortage of parts is not a very true story.

Not involved no.

WRT to parts as mentioned it's the same vehicle as the Starlet & they're selling by the droves.

I personally would not worry about the/any parts supply issue.

Both cars are excellent ito space utilization, economy & minimal running costs.

Your approach of getting a slight older Suzi for a much keener price vs a newer (which is still the same) is smart. I do say do it.

Thanks for the info and help guys. When Suzuki made some adjustments to their Baleno just before the Starlet launched, (warranty to 5 yrs, keyless entry, safety feature) will that model still be seen as 2019 or is that now the 2020 model?

I checked with Suzuki and this specific one I am looking at based on the VIN had a three year warranty which expires in August 2022.

Would be more keen on sourcing the one with a 5 year warranty, especially if it’s also a 2019 model.

Suzuki introduced the 5 year warranty for all its cars from July 2017 and have kept it since.
I would query this with the dealer you intend purchasing from.

I will follow up, I called a dealer on Friday and they have it that the warranty expires 2022 for the 2019 model.

EDIT:

According to the link you posted that was only for cars sold during the last 6 months of 2017. It was a temporary increase.

It was introduced in July 2017 and has been kept that way in SA since.
