Tata’s display at the 2016 Delhi Auto Expo was among the largest at the event. Showcased at their exhibit were concepts, upcoming cars and custom versions of existing models, one of which was the Tiago Aktiv.

The model simply added crossover livery to the Tiago hatchback and customers will soon have the option to buy it.

The Tiago Aktiv features different bumpers, faux skid plates, black cladding with metallic strips on the side skirts, a black roof and silver roof rails. You also get black wing mirrors, a few stickers on the body and differently designed alloy wheels.

Tata has received around 20,000 bookings for the Tiago and the addition of this kit might widen its appeal, given the popularity of crossover designs.

Other cars like the Toyota Etios Cross, Hyundai i20 Active, Volkswagen Cross Polo and Fiat Avventura offer a similar novelty, but the Tiago Activ will be more affordable.

Given that this is a cosmetic add-on, there will be no mechanical alterations.

The Tiago is currently available with a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder ‘Revotron’ petrol engine that produces 85PS of power and 114Nm of torque, along with a 1.1-litre, 3-cylinder ‘Revotorq’ diesel mill that makes 70PS of power and 140Nm of torque.

Both engines get 5-speed manual transmissions and neither one can be had with an automatic gearbox.

Prices for the Tiago start at Rs 3.20 lakh and go up to Rs 5.54 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi). Adding the Aktiv accessory kit is likely to set you back by an additional Rs 35,000 to Rs 40,000.

Not bad but there is something about the dimensions that is not quite right, what is the obsession with this "tallboy" design?, even their hatchbacks have this raised design and high suspension.

Maybe the high suspension is so that there is enough ground clearance for speed bumps, potholes and gravel roads, and the 'tallboy' design is so that you can wear a turban or colonial headdress (a Pith Helmet fit for a Gurka Army Colonel, or a hat with a floral / feather arrangement suitable for Hyacinth Bouquet) when driving these cars in India!

Wtf is going on with those footwell carpets, and their weird folds??? Is that poor workmanship, or an actual design feature?

Popped in to TATA SA's Head Office in Medowdale earlier today, guess what I saw in their parking lot?

Yup, a brand-new silver Tata Tiago XZ manual (the highest-spec model), with temporary GP cardboard plates on it.

So I am guessing that the expected launch of the Tiago in SA is imminent.

Went to sort out refund from KIA Edenvale parts department for front strut assembly components still not supplied by TATA, over 3 months after I had originally paid for them at the end of October last year.

This was the condition of one front shock strut I received, that was sent from a branch in Cape Town - it was 'supposed' to be a NEW part.

This is the other strut I received - that WAS a NEW part - spot the difference.

Last year, Tata Motors had announced its partnership with the Coimbatore based Jayem Automotives called JT Special Vehicles Pvt. Ltd., a 50:50 joint venture.

This was then followed with the showcase of the JTP models of the Tata Tiago and the Tigor at the 2018 Auto Expo.

Tata-Tiago-JTP.jpg

The camouflaged Tata Tiago JTP wears a tweaked front bumper along with a vent on the hood. The side and the rear profile of the Tata Tiago JTP are not seen but that too should feature a sportier finish.

The cabin of the Tata Tiago JTP is equipped with all-black interiors, leather wrapped steering with contrasting red stitching, aluminium pedals and Harman infotainment system.

The Tiago JTP will be equipped with a 1.2L turbocharged Revotron motor that makes 110PS and generates 150Nm of torque, which is much more than the 85PS/114Nm in regular version.

This motor is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. The company has still not disclosed any claimed figures on acceleration and top speed which we expect to be quicker and faster than the regular Tata Tiago.

Yes but is it actually coming to SA?

Note no hearsay like the i30 N story. Did Tata SA actually confirm that it is coming to SA during this century?

I keep seeing this Tiago - now with permanent GP plates on it - driving around the Meadowdale area - so here's hoping they also decide to bring the JTP version to SA as well - before 2100 AD rolls around.
