Doubt it, "sell well" that is.

The Bolt is a very attractive & well priced option here & pulls in sub 20 units a month at times!

The Tata nameplate in cars is not particularly strong locally & folks are brand snobs.

Tata is gearing up to launch a crossover version of the Tiago hatchback called the Tiago NRG. It is expected to be available in a single variant and could be launched later this month.

The Tiago NRG is slightly longer, wider and taller than the standard Tiago. It measures 3793 mm in length, 1,665 mm in width and 1,587 mm in height. The wheelbase (2,400 mm) is identical to the hatchback but the ground clearance has increased to 180 mm.

Images revealed through a leaked product briefing document suggest that the Tiago NRG will get a black body kit featuring dual-tone bumpers with integrated silver scuff plates, side skirts and black trim around the wheel arches.

The front grille along with the roof, ORVMs and the B-pillar have been blacked out. It also has black roof rails and a roof spoiler.

The tail gate has a thick black trim with the Tiago badge on the left and NRG logo on the right. The car comes fitted with smoked headlamps and rides on 4-spoke 14-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

The interior looks similar to the Tiago except for the orange and silver inserts. It has a 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel as well as a twin-pod instrument cluster with silver surrounds and an MID in the centre.

The seats have fixed headrests and are wrapped in grey fabric upholstery with orange highlights. It comes with a 6-way adjustable driver seat with height adjustment.

The dashboard houses a cooled glove box and a 5-inch touchscreen infotainment system with navigation, which is connected to an 8-speaker Harman audio system.

The Tiago NRG will be available in both petrol and diesel versions. The 1.2-litre 3-cylinder petrol engine makes 84 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. The 1.0-litre, 3-cylinder diesel puts out 69 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1,800-3,000 rpm.

Both engines will come mated to a 5-speed manual transmission. Safety features like dual front airbags, ABS with EBD and Corner Stability Control will be offered as standard.

The Tiago NRG will be available in 3 dual-tone colour options - Malabar Silver, Canyon Orange and Fuji White.

It will compete with the Ford Freestyle in the Indian market.

Looks lekker. Pity we wont get it here. :cautious:

Looks lekker. Pity we wont get it here. :cautious:

Yup, sad that TATA SA never marketed their existing products - the Bolt hatch & sedan - aggressively in South Africa, as they were FAR better specification wise (especially the XT models) than similar offerings from India like the Suzuki Celerio / Swift / Dzire, Honda Brio / Amaze and definitely streets ahead, as far as features & safety are concerned, when compared to the hideous and 'unsafe at any speed' Renault Kwid / Datsun Go siblings!

Their current range in India - Tiago / Tigor and the Nexon and Hexa SUV's, are very modern, fully featured & would have competed well with other Indian manufacturers offerings, had they ever been made available here in SA at market-realistic prices.

Tata Tiago JTP & Tigor JTP launched

Tata Motors has launched the Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP in the Indian market, priced at Rs. 6.39 lakh and Rs. 7.49 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi) respectively.

The Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP sport styling updates that differentiate them from the standard models. The cars come with a redesigned front fascia that features a new bumper with a trapezoidal lower grille, twin-pod projector headlamps with chrome rings, side skirts, dual-tone rear bumper, rear spoiler and vents on the hood and fenders.

Both cars come in a dual-tone exterior theme with contrast coloured ORVMs and get 15-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.

Both cars get all-black interiors with red accents on the AC vents. The leather wrapped 3-spoke multi-function steering wheel has contrast red stitching, while the seats are wrapped in fabric upholstery with a red hexagonal pattern.

The cars get aluminium pedals and a twin-pod instrument cluster with a central MID. The centre console houses a touchscreen infotainment system. Automatic climate control is available on the Tigor JTP.

The JTP versions are powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces 112 BHP @ 5,000 rpm and 150 Nm of torque @ 2,000-4,000 rpm.

The engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and has 2 driving modes - Sport and City.

According to the carmaker, the JTP versions feature performance intake and exhaust systems as well as a tuned suspension and a lower ride height compared to the standard models.

Tata claims that the cars can accelerate from 0-100 km/h in around 10 seconds, while top speed has been pegged at 160 km/h.

Standard safety features include ABS with EBD, corner stability control and dual front airbags.

Rumour: Tata Tiago & Tigor diesel variants to be discontinued

According to a media report, Tata Motors will not upgrade its 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder diesel engine to comply with BS-VI emission norms.

At present, this engine does duty in the Tiago and Tigor. This could mean that the two cars are not likely to be offered with a diesel engine from April 1, 2020.

The carmaker has said that the petrol variants of the Tiago and Tigor account for 80% of their total sales. During the period April 2018-January 2019, diesels accounted for 14% and 15% of overall Tiago and Tigor sales respectively.

As demand for diesel variants is low, the company considers developing new BS-VI compliant small capacity diesel engines unfeasible.

The Tiago and Tigor share the same engines.

The diesel versions of the car are powered by a 1.05-litre, 3-cylinder engine that produces 69 BHP @ 4,000 rpm and 140 Nm @ 1,800-3,000 rpm. This engine is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission.

The petrol versions of the cars draw power from a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder that makes 84 BHP @ 6,000 rpm and 114 Nm of torque @ 3,500 rpm. This engine is mated to either a 5-speed manual or AMT gearbox.

Tata Tiago, Tigor get Apple CarPlay
The popular hatchback and sub-four metre sedan now get Apple’s connectivity suite in addition to already being compatible with Android Auto.

ImageResizer.ashx

The Tata Tiago hatchback and Tigor compact sedan have been consistent performers for the Indian carmaker. In a bid to keep them fresh, both cars were updated in late 2018 with new top-spec XZ+ variants, which saw the addition of snazzier headlamps and alloy wheels, among other features.

Also a major part of the refresh was a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system, replete with Android Auto, which replaced the clunkier 5.0-inch touchscreen available before.

Now, Tata has rolled out Apple CarPlay compatibility for this infotainment system, which will allow iPhone users to exploit its connectivity features to the fullest.

To put things into perspective, the Tata Tiago goes up against other budget hatchbacks including the Maruti Suzuki Wagon R and Hyundai Santro, all of which come with similarly-sized displays and support Android and Apple smartphone integration.

The Tata Tigor rivals the Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Honda Amaze and Ford Aspire, all of which now are on even footing in terms of their infotainment systems.

Interestingly, the 2019 model year Hexa comes with the same 7.0-inch touchscreen display, though it remains to be seen if, and when, Tata will update it with Apple CarPlay.

It must be mentioned that the Tiago NRG, Tiago JTP and Tigor JTP continue to be offered with the older 5.0-inch display unit that lacks smartphone integration altogether.

Mechanically, the Tiago and Tigor duo remain unchanged. They are offered with an 85hp, 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 70hp, 1.05-litre diesel mill. While a 5-speed manual gearbox is standard, the petrol also gets the option of a 5-speed AMT auto transmission.

Tata Tiago gets additional safety features as standard

img4-1920-1200.jpg

As many of you are aware, starting 1st July 2019, all four-wheeler passenger vehicles sold in India will have to be equipped with added safety features like a speed-warning indicator, driver-side airbag, seat-belt reminder for both front passengers, seat-belt pre-tensioners and rear parking sensors.

Furthermore, these features need to be a part of the standard fitment list across a model's entire variant line-up.

With the approaching implementation deadline, Tata Motors has given the Tiago hatchback the above-mentioned updates.

Therefore, all Tiago variants are now equipped with safety features like dual airbags, anti-lock braking system (ABS), electronic brake distribution (EBD), corner stability control (CSC), rear parking sensors along with speed & seatbelt reminders.

Out of this, ABS and EBD were already made standard across the range due to their 1st April 2019 implementation deadline.

This update, however, has also increased the starting price of the Tiago range – the new base model has been priced at ₹ 4.40 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi), about ₹ 13,000 more than before.

Of late, the Tata Tiago and the Tigor have been in the news for receiving a much-needed Apple CarPlay connectivity option.

While available only with the top-spec XZ+ variant for new customers, existing customers can get the same via a software update at their nearest authorised Tata Motors workshop.

In February 2019, the Tiago added another feather in the cap of Tata Motors as it celebrated its two-lakh sales milestone.

Tata Tiago crosses 3 lakh (300,000) unit production milestone - Team-BHP

2058080d1600759526t-tata-tiago-crosses-3-lakh-unit-production-milestone-image-2.jpg

Tata Motors has reached a new production milestone. The 300,000th Tiago has rolled off the assembly line in Sanand, Gujarat.

The Tiago was launched in 2016 and it became the highest selling Tata hatchback in the country in August 2018. The BS6 version was introduced earlier this year.

The Tiago is now offered a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that produces 85 BHP and 113 Nm. It is paired with either a 5-speed manual or 5-speed automated manual transmission (AMT).

The car no longer gets a diesel engine option.

The updated Tiago gets a redesigned front fascia featuring a more sharper look based on Tata's Impact 2.0 design philosophy.

The car has also been awarded a 4-star safety rating by Global NCAP. It comes equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, Corner Stability Control and Rear Parking Assist.

Video: Tata Tiago CNG caught undisguised - Team-BHP

The CNG version will be a good alternative for those who would find the price of petrol too high for their liking.

A video of the upcoming CNG variant of the Tata Tiago hatchback has surfaced online. The video shows the Tiago finished in red without any camouflage, sporting CNG stickers on its windshields.

The Tiago CNG is based on the Tiago facelift that was launched in January 2020. It has a tri-arrow grille with a thick chrome border running along the lower edge and under the headlamps and LED tail lights.

The Tiago CNG is expected to be mechanically identical to its petrol-powered sibling. The Tiago petrol is powered by a 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that puts out 85 BHP and 113 Nm. These figures are expected to be slightly lower when the car runs on CNG.

The petrol version is offered with either a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 5-speed AMT. However, it is unclear which transmission options the CNG version will get.

The Tata Tiago diesel was discontinued in 2020 when the BS6 emission norms were introduced in India. Since then the car has been available with a petrol engine only.

The CNG version will be a good alternative for those who would find the price of petrol too high for their liking. In Delhi, CNG is priced at Rs. 43.40 per kg, while petrol costs Rs. 91.80 per litre.

The Tiago CNG is also expected to return better efficiency figures compared to the petrol, making it considerably cheaper to run.

On the downside, the Tiago CNG will have lesser boot space than the petrol due to the presence of a factory-fitted CNG tank.

2021 Tata Tiago NRG to be launched on August 4 - Team-BHP

Last week, Tata Motors announced that it was planning to launch a new "tough" and "sporty" model on August 4, 2021. As it turns out, it isn't the HBX crossover, but the updated Tiago NRG.

Tata Motors is relaunching the Tiago NRG in its updated avatar. The car will be based on the Tiago facelift. So expect to see a front fascia similar to that of the hatchback.

Just like the previous NRG, the new model will also feature a rugged body kit and roof rails.

On the inside, the Tiago NRG is expected to come equipped with a 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity, automatic climate control, electric folding ORVMs among other features.

Mechanically, the NRG will be identical to the Tiago hatchback. It will use the same 1.2-litre, 3-cylinder petrol engine that makes 85 BHP and 113 Nm. Transmission options will include a 5-speed manual and 5-speed AMT.

Tata Tiago NRG features & observations: We got a close look - Team-BHP

In essence, the Tiago NRG (pronounced Energy) is a slightly raised hatchback with cosmetic additions to give it an SUV-like look.

1628693159061.png

The Tata Tiago NRG has been launched in India at a price of between Rs. 6.57 - 7.09 lakhs (ex-showroom, Delhi).

Powering the NRG is the same 1.2L, 3-cylinder petrol engine from the Tiago that puts out 84 BHP and 113 Nm of torque. It is mated to a 5-speed manual transmission and you get the option of an AMT automatic as well.

The NRG is available at Rs 6.57 lakh for the manual transmission variant and Rs. 7.09 lakh for the AMT variant (ex-showroom, Delhi prices). At these prices, the NRG variant is ~Rs 5,000-7,000 more expensive than the top-end variant of the regular Tiago.

Sadly though the NRG variant misses out on a couple of features from the top-end Tiago like alloy wheels and automatic temperature control.

Apart from this, the NRG is equipped with dual airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control, reversing camera with parking sensors, follow me headlamps, push start button with keyless entry, 7-inch touchscreen infotainment with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay connectivity with a 4-speaker & 4 tweeters sound system and a puncture repair kit (related news).

The body colour options include Fire Red (display vehicle), Cloudy Grey, Snow White and Foresta Green.

Tata Motors offers a standard warranty of just 2 years / 75,000 km with the Tiago NRG, so definitely opt for extending the warranty up to 5 years.
