I wouldnt agree with that statement. Alfa Romeo knows that SA isnt a big market for it, but there is some market. I love my Guilietta and look forward to my Guilia. The benefit of both is that with such few numbers I have a lower chance of being hijacked.
 
Alfa Romeo Giulia, Stelvio and Giulietta get five-year warranties

Alfa’s core range will have five-year warranties and three-year servicing as standard, as well as five years of roadside assistance

Alfa Romeo has given a five-year warranty to the Giulia, Stelvio and Giulietta models as part of its bid to increase sales to 400,000 annually by 2022.

This follows the industry trend for longer warranties. The cover will be included in the purchase price of the car, along with three years of servicing and five years of roadside assistance. Parts, lubricant and labour are all included in the service cover.

The five-year warranty includes mileage of up to 75,000 miles, with the increase stemming from Fiat Chrysler Automobiles’ investment in its Cassino plant, where the Giulia, Stelvio and Giulietta are built.

The move is likely to be extended to all future models as Alfa expands its line-up. The Mito and 4C are not covered by the offer, however.

Alfa has plans to produce a smaller SUV to sit below the Stelvio and a larger SUV to rival the BMW X5. The GTV will also return, reborn as a coupé variant of the Giulia, and it will get a Quadrifoglio variant with more than 600bhp. A revived 8C is also planned for production before 2022.

The warranty move is likely to be a response to Alfa’s less-than-perfect reliability record, with past models being marred by mechanical problems that gave the brand something of a reputation when it came to reliability.

Fiat Chrysler will be issuing a recall in the next few days for around 34,300 Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio models with the 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, as they may be at risk for fire due to inadequate overheating protection.

The recall document will be published under FCA ID UA4 and NHTSA ID 18V-636, and according to the description of the recall, the fire risk comes from the possibility of engine misfires.

The notice is not online yet.

The misfires may cause temperatures to rise in the catalytic converter which in turn could damage wiring and other components in the area.

Damage to these components and wiring can cause the engine to stall which has the potential to cause a crash due to loss of power.

In addition, the description states the following:

In some cases, an engine Malfunction Indicator Lamp (“MIL”) may illuminate, the engine may operate roughly, there may be temporary loss of engine power, or a burning odor may be noticeable prior to an engine stall or engine compartment fire. An engine compartment fire may result in an increased risk of injury to motor vehicle occupants or persons outside the vehicle.

According to the dealer instructions, they are to inspect the vehicles for a common set of diagnostic codes which include P0420, P0171, P2096, P2270, and P0299.

Once the scan report is completed and submitted to FCA they can get approval to proceed with the repair.

The approved repair for this issue involves a software calibration update to the Powertrain Control Module or PCM that will adjust fuel delivery control in order to prevent the misfires that could cause the overheating issues mentioned above.

The estimated repair time for the procedure is one hour but dealers are instructed to place owners in a loaner if their vehicle must be kept overnight.

According to the document the vehicles affected are the 2017 and 2018 Gulia, along with the 2018 Stelvio, and all are equipped with the 2.0-liter turbo engine.

The twin-turbo V6 models are not affected.

The recall only should be announced publicly by FCA soon and instruction letter to owners should follow shortly thereafter.

The new generation of Alfa Romeos—the brand’s return to the U.S. after two decades away—have seen some struggles with reliability over the past two years, and this latest recall probably isn’t going to help that reputation much.

Should I buy one?

Although the decision to buy one will largely be made by your heart and not your head, this is comfortably the most engaging performance SUV money can buy.

Yes, the Giulia Quadrifoglio might be even more engaging, but when you're not flexing your right foot, the high driving position and practial hatchback add to the Stelvio's everyday appeal.


Interior plastics don’t quite gel with the asking price, especially compared with those of the German competition, but that doesn't make the Stelvio any less entertaining to drive.

Should I buy one?

That depends on what you’re really in the market for. If it’s a refined, comfortable and well-finished SUV, then the likes of an Audi Q5 will probably suit your needs more than the Stelvio. The chopiness of the low-speed ride and at-times questionable quality of materials used in the cabin will likely be a turn-off for some.

If, however, you want an SUV that’ll engage and excite your senses when the road clears and you’ve got nowhere else to be, you won’t go too far wrong with the Stelvio Speciale.

Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV Price Announced for SA

One of the world's hottest performance SUVs has finally landed in South Africa and we can bring you pricing. This is the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV and here's how much it costs.

The Alfa Romeo Stelvio was launched in South Africa back in November 2017. Powered by 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines driving all four wheels, the Stelvio was impressive, but not without fault. What the petrolheads were craving was the QV derivative.

Much like the much-lauded Alfa Romeo Giulia QV, the Stelvio QV comes to market with a Ferrari-derived 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged petrol V6 engine. However, in this application, 375 kW and 600 Nm goes to all 4 wheels via an 8-speed ZF automatic gearbox. In its most aggressive setting, the gearbox can change cogs in just 150 milliseconds.

Despite a weight penalty over its sedan sibling, the super SUV can sprint to 100 kph in just 3.8 seconds and run to a top speed of 283 kph. It's not just a straight line specialist either and held the Nurburgring record for SUVs for some time, before being dethroned by the V8-powered Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S.

We don't have final details on SA-spec Stelvio QVs, but the chassis features adaptive suspension, rear-biased all-wheel drive as well as active torque vectoring. The Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV rides on 20-inch alloy wheels, xenon headlights with LED DRLs, a leather dashboard, leather and Alcantara seats, carbon fibre interior and a comprehensive infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. In terms of rivals, the Alfa Romeo Stelvio QV will be going up against the aforementioned Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S, Audi SQ5 and forthcoming BMW X3 M.

Alfa Readying Smaller Stelvio

Alfa needs more crossover cash to survive and is committing to add a second model line.

The Turin auto show is no longer the anchor event it once was, which means that the closest international auto show of reputable standing to Alfa-Romeo’s headquarters, is in Geneva. And at this year’s Geneva auto show the ‘other’ Italian road car brand with current F1 marketing traction will reveal something significant.

Alfa-Romeo has tabled an ambitious growth strategy, planning to grow its market share by more than half between now and 2022. Powering that vision will be a raft of new product – the first of which is due to be revealed at the Geneva auto show, in early March.

Despite only alluding to ‘an exciting new chapter’ due on its Geneva auto show stand, industry consensus is that Alfa will make public a sub-Stelvio sized crossover. The issue is which platform this new crossover will ride on.

Being a comparatively small manufacturer, Alfa doesn’t readily have a platform of its own at the ready to build a new compact crossover. A partnership or shared platform for the sub-Stelvio is most likely and if candidates for convergence are identified within the greater automotive structure that Alfa-Romeo finds itself within, the solution appears to be either Jeep or from Fiat.

Alfa-Romeo operates within the great automotive corporation which is Fiat Chrysler Automobiles and either Jeep’s Compass or Fiat’s 500 would be the correct size and configuration for a sub-Stelvio platform. The problem is that neither vehicle architecture is expertly designed for part electrification – something Alfa has admitted is part of its future strategy.

Alfa Romeo announces race-inspired Stelvio and Giulia QV for Geneva

F1-themed Quadrifoglio specials will be joined by Ti versions of both cars, and an updated Giulietta

Alfa Romeo has released details of its Geneva motor show unveilings ahead of the event that takes place next week. Two special edition Giulia and Stelvio Quadrifoglios, new Ti versions of both cars, and an updated Giulietta will feature.

One of the most striking draws will be the display of Alfa’s 2019 F1 season team car, as the brand celebrates its return to the sport under the Alfa Romeo Racing name with drivers Antonio Giovinazzi and Kimi Räikkönen in the line-up.

But the true stars of the display area will be the limited edition ‘Alfa Romeo Racing’ special series versions of the Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio, both boasting the same livery as the F1 model.

Unique stylistic details include Sparco racing seats with red stitching and carbonfibre shells, and carbonfibre inserts in the gear knob and steering wheel. The 2.9-litre BiTurbo V6 in both cars will remain unchanged.

Other models will be on show including a Stelvio Ti SUV, equipped with a 276bhp 2.0-litre turbo petrol engine, and a Giulia Veloce Ti in Misano Blue featuring extensive use of carbonfibre. There will also be a display of accessories from sister parts and accessories brand Mopar, and a merchandise stand where dedicated fans can consider items such as an Alfa Romeo Dolomiti e-MTB electric mountain bike.

There’s also been a timely announcement of trim level revisions and a re-jigging of the engine range for the 2019 Alfa Giulietta: the Super, the Speciale and the Veloce. There is a choice of three different Euro 6D compliant engines – a 1.4-litre 120hp turbo petrol and 1.6-litre 120hp diesel in manual or auto, plus a 2.0-litre 170hp diesel available in TCT automatic transmission only.

The entry-level Super comes with cruise control, dual air-con, front fog lights and rear parking sensors as standard; side skirts, sports seats, tinted windows and an oversized exhaust come with the Speciale; and the top-of-the-range Veloce includes 18in dark alloy wheels, twin exhausts, Alcantara and fabric seats, electric mirrors, auto headlights and wipers, and Uconnect 6.5in infotainment.
