Looks nice, but until the motor industry comes back down to earth with their prices, I won't even give it a second thought.

The Tiguan, as much as I dislike the brand, is a very good buy as it is more or less priced the same as the equivalent Korean or Japanese vehicle but with the perceived premium feel of the German marque and will also have better resale value.

But I agree, ALL manufacturers need their heads read and need to calm down with their prices. Shocking that people still buy new with the way the prices just skyrocket
 
So I went to have a look at the 1.4 Trendline yesterday and I was thoroughly... underwhelmed. For R380k I expected more car for the money. So, the Nissan dealership across the road caught my eye and the saleslady got me to sign an OTP on a new X-Trail. The 2.5 SE CVT (with adaptive 4x4) model with Techno Pack to be precise. To top it all off? It's R10k cheaper than the Tiguan base model...

Yup. R370k in fact... I extended the service plan from 3 years to 5 for an extra R9k, so price came in well under R400k for a car that usually retails for R430k without all the extras. If I were tp pay retail prices on the car, Techno pack and extended service plan, I would've been dangerously close to half a bar and I refuse to pay that much for a car.

Subtracting the trade-in value of my almost-paid-off 2012 Civic 5 door Executive (I've got 10 intallments left), I end up paying the same in monthly installments that I'm currently paying for a much larger car. Seeing as we're starting a family next year, we decided to up the size factor in at least one of our cars. My wife's Fiat 500C is paid off in Feb, so we'll hang onto it a bit longer still.

Took delivery of above-mentioned car today and I'm not regretting it at all. As good as the Tiguan might be, it's just too expensive compared to the deal I got.

After looking a several cars over the weekend, including some double cabs, my wife was only convinced about the X-Trail. The others were either too small, too boring or too expensive. The Nissan hit the sweet spot with all of those. We can't wait to take it on a long trip this December...

I don't get your point? If it doesn't have a VW badge it's not good enough, or what? Put it this way: a similar spec Tiguan to the car I got would've been close to R500k, if not more. I paid R380k (excluding trade-in of course) for the 2.5 SE CVT 4x4 with "techno pack" (which adds satnav, 7" touch screen infotainment, lane departure warning, blind spot monitor, 360° cameras with moving object detection and 18" wheels). The car looks great with the 18" wheels and I'm loving the copper blaze colour more every day...
