2018 Audi A7 Sportback (2nd Generation)

Any idea on local pricing. Nevermind, wont be able to afford it anyways.
Secondhand pricing on the previous gen 3.0 TDI models should be pretty good.

I've been tempted many a time but it's not exactly 'affordable' for me @ R350k

Design changes

Audi has taken the wraps off its new A7 Sportback featuring a striking design and a lavish interior. Let’s take a closer look.

The all-new Audi A7 Sportback has been revealed and by all accounts, it looks phenomenal!

The visual improvements to the new A7 have made it look sharper and more dynamic.

The new A7’s front-end features a sharper and larger single-frame grille than the outgoing model and slimmer headlights are fitted with vertical LED stripes for added effect while the newly sculpted air intakes give the A7 a more purposeful look. A sculpted bonnet, strong character lines and a swooping roofline provides an attractive side-view.

At the rear, Audi A7 Sportback features a tapered rear-end with a distinctive and animated light unit that extends across the width of the vehicle with 13 vertical LED light segments. An integrated spoiler deploys from 120 kph and a new diffuser with chrome-trimmed artificial exhaust tips is also fitted.

The A7's interior is plush and thoroughly modern featuring Audi's Virtual Cockpit and 2 touchscreens for infotainment and in-car functions.

The interior design has been extensively reworked and Audi’s 12.3-inch Virtual Cockpit makes its appearance yet again. Two screens are also fitted and include a 10.1-inch touchscreen housing the infotainment system while the lower 8.1-inch touchscreen is mainly dedicated to in-car functions such as controlling the climate control air conditioning as well as keyboard functionality for punching in telephone numbers and addresses. Other key features include a head-up display, Bang and Olufsen sound system, Valcona leather upholstery, voice control and attractive ambient lighting.

What’s under the bonnet?

A 250 kW turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 will power the new A7 with more engine options introduced in due course.

The new A7 Sportback will initially be powered by a turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine with outputs of 250 kW and 500 Nm of torque. It will use a 7-speed S tronic transmission in conjunction with quattro all-wheel drive to achieve a claimed zero to 100 kph sprint time of 5.3 seconds before arriving at a top speed of 250 kph. Audi will then introduce a range of petrol and diesel option in 4-cylinder and 6-cylinder guise.

As you would expect, the new Audi A7 is packed with the latest driver assistance technology including AI Traffic Jam Pilot, Audi’s first Level 3 autonomous system seen on the new A8. Using camera’s and sensors, the system will take control of the vehicle on the highway and initiate functions such as braking, accelerating and steering without input from the driver. The new A7 will also be able to autonomously negotiate parking spaces. Familiar features such as adaptive cruise control will also be offered.

You can expect the new Audi A7 to arrive in South Africa later in 2018 and local specification and pricing will be confirmed closer to launch.

Damn... I know that I can't afford it but what is the price of the most basic one? :p
One can always dream.

Audi's style evolves with all-new A7 Sportback

Audi’s new and more expressive design language that kicked off with latest A8 saloon has taken the next evolutionary step with the second-generation A7 Sportback, which was revealed on Thursday night.

The A7 retains its characteristic sloping fastback tail, just with more prominent creases and larger wheel arches, while the front adopts Audi’s latest wide-grin hexagonal grille upfront and joined taillights at the back. Either way, you’ll never mistake it for anything other than an A7 and that’s what you call evolution, Audi style.

Technologically the new model has taken a proper stride forward and although it doesn’t inherit the new A8’s ‘Audi AI’ autonomous driving capabilities, it does get its fair share of 'artificial intelligence' features, along with a new all-digital command centre.

The new car almost completely does away with traditional buttons and rotary dials, with the central dashboard occupied by two large vertically-stacked touch-screens, which seamlessly blend into the surrounding facia. Up to seven drivers can create user profiles for the vehicle’s features and up to 400 parameters can be personalised.

In terms of gadgets, the highlight here is the self explanatory Audi AI remote parking pilot and remote garage pilot, which allow the car to manoeuvre autonomously, even with the driver outside of the vehicle. These will only become available next year, however.

Depending on what gadgets are selected, the A7 can come loaded with as many as five radar sensors, five cameras, a laser scanner and 12 ultrasonic sensors, while up to 39 different driver assistance gadgets are offered in total.

As with the new A8, the A7 will sport a 48-volt electrical system, with a lithium ion battery that can store recuperated energy, thus allowing ‘mild’ hybrid capability.

Only one engine will be available initially, this being Audi’s 3.0 V6 TFSI turbopetrol, rated at 250kW and 600Nm, and sending power to all four wheels via a seven-speed S Tronic dual-clutch gearbox and quattro all-wheel drive. Audi claims a 5.3 second 0-100km/h sprint and 250km/h electronically limited top speed.

Audi assures us that the engine range will be expanded shortly after the start of production, with additional four- and six-cylinder petrol and diesel engines joining the line-up.

The new model rides on an updated chassis, and while standard models still feature steel suspension, buyers will be able to opt for a revised adaptive air suspension system, along with a rear axle sport differential and all-wheel steering.

According to Audi SA, the new A7 is expected to go on sale locally during the second quarter of 2018.

From 30 metres away, it will be impossible to tell the new A5, A7 and A8 apart. All exactly the same front.

But the rest of the car looks wicked.

Also, i hate the new touch screen controls for everything. It will get full of fingerprints and look hideous, plus it will be impossible to adjust settings without looking down at the screen. What is so wrong with turning tactile knobs to adjust fan and aircon settings?

As a huge Audi fan, I love it! Nice to see the similarities with the new A8 - sure some of the new design elements will also make its way into the new A6.

Still not a big fan of that new model designation though!

Audi RS7 Rendering Gets Us Excited

The last we spoke of the upcoming RS7, we mentioned it might come in a hybrid version with 700 horsepower which really got the performance excitement in us going but the rendering available did not do the same.

Now that the new A7 has been revealed, X-Tomi Design have given us a new rendering and it looks absolute phenomenal.

As a reminder, the new RS7 will be offered with the conventional all-new 4-litre twin-turbo V8 producing 650 horsepower and a second more powerful hybrid model will be sold alongside it.

It will feature the same electric motor set-up as that fitted to Porsche’s Panamera Turbo S E-hybrid which means the hybrid-powered RS7 is expected to produce in the region of 700 horsepower.

Remember this is all speculation and rumors on the interwebs so take it with a pinch of salt for now.

5 New Luxury Cars Coming To South Africa In 2018

There may be plenty of new crossovers heading to our shores (be sure to check out 10 of the most significant plus five additional high-performance versions), but that doesn’t mean traditional luxury cars are a thing of the past. No, there are a few super-premium models coming to South Africa in 2018. And we’ve listed five below…

1. Audi A7 Sportback

Boasting a far sharper design than its predecessor, the fresh-faced A7 Sportback will come standard with a new mild hybrid system that boasts a “recuperation performance” of up to 12 kW when braking. At launch, a 3,0-litre V6 TFSI producing 250 kW and 500 N.m (allowing a sprint from zero to 100 km/h in a claimed 5,3 seconds and a top speed of 250 km/h) will do duty, mated to a seven-speed S tronic transmission and quattro all-wheel drive. Expect a local arrival in the second quarter of 2018.

2. Rolls-Royce Phantom

The new, eighth-generation Rolls-Royce Phantom is scheduled to touch down in SA in the second quarter of the year, running on new aluminium “spaceframe” underpinnings. Powered by a “completely new” (are you seeing a theme here?) 6,75-litre V12 engine, linked to a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic transmission, that now employs two turbochargers contributing to a low-end torque output of 900 N.m at just 1 700 r/min (up from the old car’s 720 N.m) and peak power of 420 kW (again, up from 338 kW), the Phantom should sprint to 100 km/h in about 5,3 seconds.

3. Lexus LS

Also expected in the second quarter of 2018, the fifth-generation Lexus LS shares its underpinnings with the LC 500 coupé. The Japanese brand’s flagship sedan draws its urge from a new 3,5-litre twin-turbo V6 that delivers 310 kW and 600 N.m of torque to either the rear or all four wheels through a 10-speed automatic transmission. The result is a claimed 0-100 km/h time of 4,5 seconds (in all-wheel-drive models, that is).

4. Mercedes-Benz CLS

The third-generation CLS is the first Mercedes-Benz to adopt the Stuttgart-based brand’s “new design idiom”, but also shares much with the E-Class on which it is based (and even gains some S-Class tech). Initially, just a trio of 3,0-litre six-cylinder mills will be offered, with each sending their oomph to all four wheels: the CLS 350d 4Matic (210 kW and 600 N.m), CLS 400d 4Matic (250 kW and 700 N.m) and electrified CLS 450 4Matic (270 kW and 500 N.m). Bank on an arrival in SA in the final quarter of 2018.

5. Audi A8

The fourth-generation Audi A8 is due on local shores in the second quarter of the year, sporting a fresh design and a bunch of semi-autonomous technology features. All models will ship standard with quattro all-wheel drive, with a 210 kW 3,0 TDI and 250 kW 3,0T FSI on the cards. Later, we can expect a 320 kW 4,0 TDI and 338 kW 4,2 TFSI to be added to the line-up, with the flagship 6,0-litre W12 likely hot on their heels. A plug-in hybrid variant has also been developed.

Sleek Audi A7 Sportback Headed for NAIAS

Audi is using the upcoming North American International Auto Show to showcase the new second-generation A7 Sportback and it looks great!

Audi’s new 4-door coupe will land stateside next week and will be followed by its international launch which is due to take place in scenic Cape Town at the end of January 2018. Although Audi says that the new A7 Sportback is under consideration for the South African market, we suspect that it will become available locally later this year. Based on these images, we hope it does…
