Now this is one stylish EcoSport...check that interior..+ 2L EcoBoost option with 4WD.

Ford introduced the all-new Ford EcoSport for North America for those who want space-saving convenience and SUV capability.

The Ford EcoSport - a fun, capable, connected compact SUV - stars in the world's first-ever vehicle reveal on Snapchat, kicking off a Hollywood pop-up event open to the public.

The interactive event showcases how EcoSport is a perfect companion for those who believe in going small and living big.

"More people are choosing to spend their time and money sharing experiences with friends and family instead of buying more stuff," said Chantel Lenard, ‎executive director, Ford U.S. marketing. "EcoSport fits perfectly into this growing lifestyle. It's our smallest SUV, packed with features and personality."

Fun sound, color and style

Ford EcoSport's available premium B&O PLAY audio system brings your music to life. HARMAN acoustic engineers spent hundreds of hours perfecting the in-vehicle music experience.

The Ford-exclusive B&O PLAY audio system, standard on EcoSport Titanium, features 10 speakers, including B&O PLAY-branded tweeters and woofers in the front doors and a subwoofer in back. The 675-watt system unlocks the power of your favorite music and transforms every drive into a "living big" experience.

Ford EcoSport also features available HD Radio technology, SiriusXM satellite radio and a dual FM radio antenna that boosts the range and clarity of FM signals.

Customers looking to stand apart from the crowd will find plenty of ways to personalize their EcoSport. Along with 10 exterior color choices, there are seven ambient lighting options and four trim level offerings - S, SE, SES and Titanium. All series feature a swing-gate-style tailgate.

The personality-packed SES series makes the biggest splash. It features Intelligent 4WD, sport-tuned suspension and steering, and unique styling cues inside and out - including bold copper accents for the interior and sport seats.

Connected technology

Ford EcoSport makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family with SYNC 3, Ford's communications and entertainment system. Faster, more intuitive and easier to use, the system provides more conversational voice recognition and enhanced response to driver commands. Optimized for hands-free use, SYNC 3 for EcoSport is coupled with a touch screen similar to a smartphone or tablet. The 8-inch screen gives front-row occupants easy access to operate available Apple CarPlay and Android Auto commands, and B&O PLAY audio settings.

Drivers also have the ability to start, lock, unlock and locate their vehicle from almost anywhere using available SYNC Connect with FordPass. The mobile app lets owners view vehicle information, such as the fuel level and odometer reading, when not in the vehicle.

Ford EcoSport features two fast-charging USB ports to ensure owners' devices are always juiced. Plus, there's a 12-volt power outlet. An available 110-volt outlet positioned behind the center console and another 12-volt outlet allow rear-seat passengers to stay plugged in, too.

Capable, powerful and sporty

Equipped with either the award-winning, 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbocharged EcoBoost or 2.0-liter four-cylinder, EcoSport provides power and control. Drivers opting for the 2.0-liter engine get Ford's Intelligent 4WD standard. Both come with six-speed automatic transmissions.

As many as 30 stowage pockets, bins, hooks make efficient use of every interior inch. A cargo management system at the rear features a movable floor board and fold-away second-row seats to provide a flat area for moving furniture and other larger items.

The next-generation Ford EcoSport has been revealed at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. Let's check out what Ford's compact family car has to offer.

The current EcoSport was launched on the local market in 2013 and has gone on to dominate sales in its segment. Its successor, which will now also be made available for the American market, looks set to achieve further success in the burgeoning small crossover market.

The new Ford EcoSport, which is based on Ford's B-platform, will be offered with a choice of 2 engines and 4 different trim levels. The US-spec cars will feature either the award-winning 1.0-litre 3-cylinder EcoBoost engine or a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder (naturally-aspirated, direct-injection unit, both mated with a 6-speed automatic transmission. EcoSport will be made available in front-wheel and all-wheel drive derivatives, with the 4x4 version capable of sending up to 50 percent of available torque to the rear wheels when required. Global market will likely receive turbodiesel engine options and manual gearboxes.

As the new EcoSport is aimed at young buyers, the newcomer will be jammed with connectivity options. A brace of fast-charging USB ports up front, 12V power outlets front and rear, and even a 110V power outlet (for the rear passengers) will be available as an option. Ford's SYNC3 infotainment/connectivity system has been made fitted and there's a smart-looking 8-inch touchscreen. Ford is also boasting Android Auto and Apple CarPlay in its new EcoSport.

We'll have more details about the new Ford EcoSport and its specifications for our market as they are made available. As it stands, the Ford EcoSport will reach American dealerships in 2018.

Ford has revealed the facelifted version of its smallest SUV, although what you see here is the US-spec EcoSport and the Indian-built models bound for South Africa could still differ in some ways.

By the way, this is the first time that the EcoSport will be sold on US soil and Ford is it clearly aiming it at the youth market, with the company having revealed it at a pop-up event in Hollywood, said to be the world's first Snapchat vehicle launch.

The biggest changes take place at the front end, where it follows the facelifted Kuga in replacing its predecessor's slim grille with a large trapezoidal upper breathing apparatus flanked by pointy headlights.

At the rear you'll notice there's no spare wheel mounted on the tailgate and it's probably been replaced by a puncture kit, but SA models will hopefully retain the tail-mounted spare.

Local versions are also likely to retain the current engine options, which include 1.5 (82kW) and 1.0T (92kW) petrol motors and a 74kW 1.5 turbodiesel. The 1.0 EcoBoost turbopetrol serves as the base engine for US versions, while a normally aspirated 2-litre petrol, mated to an all-wheel drive system, will serve larnier models.

The SA features list is also yet to be confirmed, but US cars get some nifty new gadgets not fitted to current EcoSports, including a Sync3 infotainment system linked to a 20cm touch-screen and featuring Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Buyers can also opt for a 675-watt B&O Play premium sound system and can choose from seven ambient lighting options.

While our Stateside friends receive their first units early next year, we're currently awaiting confirmation on local availability.

Ford Woos Millennials with a Tiny SUV and Snapchat

It was hard to miss the message behind Ford Motor Co.’s pop-up event in Hollywood on Monday night. The tiny homes, vignette of Venice Beach, signs emblazoned with social media messages, and food stand hosted by the trendy Smorgasburg flea market were all code for “Hey, millennials, this is for you.”

And that’s the market—at least one of them—that Ford hopes its new EcoSport subcompact crossover will attract.

Ford’s SUV group marketing manager, Michael O’Brien, said Monday the company is also targeting women and empty nester baby boomers with the EcoSport. The idea, as its Go Small, Live Big tagline suggests, is to introduce a vehicle desirable to mobile, connected consumers who want to experience things, not collect them.

Ford, with the help of rap artist DJ Khaled, introduced its EcoSport to the North American market Monday night at the event and on Snapchat. Ford says it’s the first vehicle to be revealed on Snapchat.

Ford f introduced the subcompact crossover ahead of AutoMobility LA, the new industry trade show that combines the automotive press days for the LA Auto Show and its related (and former) Connected Car Expo. AutoMobility LA, which officially kicked off Monday night, gets down to business Tuesday morning with a keynote from Ford CEO Mark Fields.

The EcoSport was introduced in 2003, but it’s never been available in the U.S. or Canada. It was originally built and sold in Brazil. It’s also sold in Argentina, Asia, and Europe.

The new EcoSport will come in four trim level offerings, including the S, SE, SES, and Titanium. Customers will be able to pick from 10 exterior color choices and seven ambient lighting options. The Titanium trim, pictured below, features more chrome details, and comes standard with a B&O PLAY audio system and 10 speakers. The SES is designed to look more rugged.

The vehicle will be offered in two different powertrains: a 1.0-liter ecoboost engine that is 2-wheel drive and a 2.0-liter engine with a 4-wheel drive. The latter is the same system on the Ford Escape SUV.

The inside features an 8-inch floating touchscreen with enhanced voice recognition. The vehicle will be equipped with its Sync 3 infotainment platform that will include Apple CarPlay or Android Auto, two rival software services that let the driver or passengers bring the functions of their smartphone into the vehicle’s central screen. This is in line with Ford’s previous announcement in July that all of its 2017 model-year cars, trucks, and SUVS will come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.

Other notable items include the EcoSport aiming to make more room, even though it’s a subcompact. The back storage area is accessed via a swing gate. The handle for the swing gate, which is incorporated into the taillight pictured below, is one of the cooler design details.

There are easy places for passenger to stash their smartphones, with a cooled glovebox and dual pockets behind the front seats. There’s even a small shirt-sized pocket on the side of the passenger seat that a driver could easily access.

The vehicle also has two fast-charging USB ports and a standard 12-volt power outlet.

Ford says the new EcoSport will start arriving in dealerships in early 2018.

Ford went social for the launch of its new EcoSport subcompact crossover, unveiling the diminutive ute on Snapchat. FoMoCo used the personal video sharing service to promote the launch of its smallest SUV at an interactive reveal in Hollywood, California.

The pint-sized EcoSport packs a turbocharged 1.0-liter EcoBoost I-3 or a 2.0-liter I-4 with all-wheel drive. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. In all, the EcoSport will be offered in four trim levels, 10 colors, and with seven ambient lighting options.

“More people are choosing to spend their time and money sharing experiences with friends and family instead of buying more stuff,” said Chantel Lenard, executive direct of Ford U.S. marketing, in a statement. “EcoSport fits perfectly into this growing lifestyle. It’s our smallest SUV, packed with features and personality.”

Ford claims that it is the world’s first-ever vehicle reveal on Snapchat. Speaking of Snapchat reveals and SUVs, a 19-year-old Texas college student recently crashed her Acura while taking a topless Snapchat selfie.

It seems like the competition’s SUV doesn’t offer the connected tech one can find in the all-new Ford EcoSport, which makes it easy to stay in touch with friends and family using the new and improved SYNC 3 system, that’s optimized for hands-free use.

Ford says drivers can start, lock, unlock, check fuel levels and find their EcoSport using their latest mobile app. Inside, there are two USB ports, a 12-volt power outlet, and a whopping 30 stowage pockets, bins, and hooks scattered throughout the vehicle. The rear features a moveable floorboard, fold away seats, and a swing-gate-style tailgate for hauling furniture.

An optional 10-speaker B&O PLAY premium audio system with 675 watts will help drown out the screaming siblings on those long trips to the soccer practice. Fortunately, it’s standard on EcoSport Titanium.

Learn more about the reveal that continues this week at FordPresents.com and at the Los Angeles auto show. Ford invites EcoSport visitors to share their experiences on social media with Snapchat geo-filters. Just remember to keep it clean and keep both hands on the wheel.

Since its launch in South Africa in 2013, the Ford EcoSport has sold up a storm, regularly making it onto our monthly list of SA’s best-selling passenger vehicles. Customers in North America, however, have not had access to the Fiesta-based subcompact crossover.

But that will change in 2018, when this US-spec model – recently revealed in Los Angeles – goes on sale in the States.

The American model – which essentially represents a facelift – looks a little different to the SA-spec model and seems to have more standard equipment, too. Some of the engine options will also differ.

Visually, the EcoSport adopts an appearance that helps it fall in line with the larger new Kuga, while still retaining the current shape.

Engines set to be on offer in the US include the turbocharged 1,0-litre three-cylinder engine (presumably the same as the one currently offered in SA) and a turbocharged 2,0-litre four-cylinder engine mated to an all-wheel drive system. Both engines come with a six-speed automatic transmission.

Not much is different in the cabin, if you exclude the centre console, which features the SYNC3 touchscreen infotainment system, new climate controls and redesigned air vents. Titanium models are furthermore fitted with a 10-speaker audio system.

So, will this Indian-built model make it to our shores as a facelift? Well, Ford Motor Company of SA is tight-lipped on its plans, saying it isn’t in a position to comment on the “exact product” nor on timing.

Damn...thought it was supposed to be here sometime next year :(

Damn...thought it was supposed to be here sometime next year :(

Only due for US early 2018. So it's fair to assume Euro & SA (Indian) models will be after that.

So funny reading the various news reports with some calling it an all new model & some an f/lift.

Its an f/lift btw. A fairly convincing one.

Sucks having to wait so long for a much better looking car than the current one. Nobody looking now will really wait
