2018 Ford EcoSport (Facelift)

So our 2015 EcoSport Ambiente is sold.
In 2015, The car was listed at R214k. We bought for R190k via a Ford Credit assistance deal.

This week, after 9 years and 82500km, sold privately for R135k after getting multiple offers from buyers.

R55k depreciation in 9 years is downright amazing and probably the best financial performance from anything I have owned / spent money on besides a primary property.

Lastly, zero mechanical issues with the car and while we did buy the extra 3 years of factory warranty along the way, we never used a cent from it.

The 1.5 EcoSport will go down as a legend!

That's a great result, what did u decide on as a replacement?
The crazy prices of new cars have obviously pushed up the demand and price of decent pre-loved cars.

Yip, new car pricing is horrific, especially when you're shopping for a second car.

We bought a new Corolla Cross XS yesterday via a near-dead-cost deal, so very happy. SO is also super chuffed coming from the bare interior of the Ecosport Ambiente and now having leather, auto/CVT, keyless entry/start etc etc, so it's a major upgrade. Plus, Toyota only wants R8500 to extend the warranty from the included 3yrs, to 8yrs/unlimited km - bargain!

Ford EcoSport Revived? New SUV Patent Registered

The patent image shows off a smart-looking compact SUV and Ford looks set to return to India. Could this be the return of the EcoSport?

Remember the Ford EcoSport? The cute crossover from the Blue Oval was a popular model in South Africa and once production ended in India in July 2022 and Romania in December 2022, the SA market had a void. Sure, the Puma is a pleasant enough vehicle, but its pricing is out of reach for EcoSport customers.

With production ending in India, Ford had a staged departure from the Sub-Continent and put its manufacturing plant in Chennai up for sale in 2021. Now things have taken an interesting turn, with Ford retaining the plant and indications of an Indian market relaunch are strong.

Along with the registration of the Endeavor (Everest SUV), a patent of an interesting-looking SUV was also discovered. Like all patents, a basic design is shown, but there’s not much detail. We believe this new product will be the next-generation Ford EcoSport. It’ll be pitched against the Kia Seltos, Hyundai Creta, Suzuki Grand Vitara, Toyota Urban Cruiser and Honda Elevate.

 
New Ford EcoSport? This leaked patent could be very good news for Ford South Africa

Although the Ford Ranger bakkie has been a huge success on the South African market, the brand has fallen behind on the passenger car front.

Ford shutting its operations in India dealt a significant blow by cutting off affordable models like the Figo and base spec EcoSport, and in recent years European imports have just become too expensive for the mass market.

The SA operation is fighting back though, with new products like the Puma and the Chinese-sourced Territory.

But with the Puma priced at a huge premium to the now discontinued EcoSport, the brand still lacks an affordable SUV entry.

This, while rivals such as Suzuki, Toyota, Honda and Kia flood the local market with Indian-built SUVs that are priced within reach of the mass market. But Ford’s fortunes could be about to change.
