Thread for the all new Clio V. Interior pics are out & it looks like a major step forward.

New Renault Clio: fifth-generation hatch’s interior revealed

Rather than unveil its new, fifth-generation Clio in full (although you can catch something of a glimpse of the exterior in the video below), Renault has opted to reveal only the hatchback’s fresh interior … for now.

So, despite promising the new Clio “rewrites the rule book with more mature body styling” and a “more assertive front end”, for now we’ve been afforded only a look at the revamped cabin.

The French firm says the “completely redesigned interior” was inspired by “higher-end segments, both in terms of perceived quality and available technology”.

There’s a new soft coating on the three-part facia, door panels and central console surround, while Renault claims the cabin is more “driver focused” than that of the outgoing model. That said, you’ll likely notice the presence of an electric parking brake rather than a traditional lever.

It’s also hard to miss that 9,3-inch multimedia screen, which is the largest ever used in a Renault. It’s vertically positioned and slightly angled towards the driver, and will run the brand’s latest “Easy Link” system.

The traditional analogue display, meanwhile, has been replaced by a customisable digital TFT screen offered in two sizes (seven and 10 inches). The 10-inch version will include navigation in the display.

There’s also a new, smaller steering wheel (made possible by the fitment of a more compact airbag) that Renault claims improves dashboard visibility for the driver. It is equipped with a thumb rest, a broader hoop and back-lit controls.

The new central console (which can be equipped with a wireless smartphone charging function) has been positioned higher for “enhanced ergonomics” and houses a shorter gear lever. The console itself can be customised depending on the interior design scheme and features lighting on its outer edge.

Renault has also redesigned the Clio’s seats, claiming they provide “better support through a longer seat base and a more enveloping shape”. The semi-soft shell, meanwhile, ostensibly improves knee space for rear passengers.

Watch the video below, which also includes a glimpse at the new Clio’s exterior…

Next-gen Renault Clio Interior Revealed

Ahead of its imminent reveal, Renault has released interior images of the all-new Renault Clio. Take a look at what the newcomer will offer when it's officially revealed at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.
What you're looking at here is the cabin and interior of the 5th generation of Renault Clio. Rumoured to run on the new CMF-B platform alongside the new Captur and some Nissan products, the all-new 5th gen Clio will make its public debut at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

The Clio is one of those vehicles which sells in tremendous numbers, especially in continental Europe. It has found favour in South Africa too and many have found homes here too. Since its official launch in 1990, over 15 million units have been sold and it has become Renault's best-selling vehicle globally. Clio 4 was especially well received. Design has always played in a key role in Clio's success and senior vice president of corporate design Laurens van den Acker is hopeful that Clio 5 will replicate the same sales success.

“The fifth generation Clio is very important for us as it is the best-seller in its segment and the second best-selling car in Europe, all categories combined. The Clio is an icon, and the latest features the very best of the previous generations. The exterior design of Clio IV won over our customers and continues to do so today, so we chose to keep that DNA while bringing modernity and elegance to the new model. The interior has undergone a true revolution, with a considerable improvement in perceived quality, greater sophistication and technology. It is the best Clio yet.”

What we know so far is that the all-new Clio forms a massive part of Renault's electrification strategy. By 2022 Renault will offer 12 electrified vehicles in its portfolio. The all-new Clio 5 will be first with its E-Tech hybrid engine. Also in 2022, Renault is aiming to have its entire portfolio 100% connected in key markets. There's also a massive focus on autonomous driving tech and Renault hopes to have 15 cars equipped.

As for this Clio 5 specifically, it's going to represent a big leap forward in terms of perceived quality and ergonomics. Given how much the segment has moved in this regard (think Polo and Fiesta) it's critical that Renault keeps pace. Dominating the Clio 5 dashboard is a Tesla-style vertical-orientated display. It contains multimedia and the car will also feature GPS navigation and a wireless charging pad. From the photos, we can see there will be 2 USB ports too. We can also see an option for both a manual gearbox as well as a version of Renault's Electronic Dual Clutch transmission.

Renault South Africa says they're looking at bringing the new Clio 5 in either late this year or early 2020.

Renault shows us inside the all-new (and classier) Clio

Renault is revealing its new-generation Clio in stages, in hope of keeping it trending for longer, so for now we only get to see the new hatchback’s cabin.

The outgoing, fourth-generation Clio made waves in the compact hatch world with its striking exterior design, but inside the cabin it played second fiddle to Volkswagen’s Polo, which was considerably classier inside.

Now Renault appears to be playing catch-up with the interior design of the fifth-generation Clio, which certainly looks to be a huge improvement in terms of perceived quality, which designers claim to have prioritised along with driving station ergonomics. The new Clio boasts soft-touch door, dashboard and centre console panels as well as “meticulously finished furnishings” as Renault puts it.

Like some of the modern Audi products, the Clio gets a full-length vertical air vent strip, intersected by a brand new portrait-orientated, 23.6cm touchscreen, which is twice the size of the previous screen and the biggest ever in a Renault. It incorporates the latest version of Renault’s EasyLink connected operating system.

The Clio also features a TFT digital instrument cluster for the first time, available in 17.8cm, 23.6cm and 25.4cm sizes.

Customers can add a splash of colour to their cabins, through eight available interior design schemes and available mood lighting in eight different colours.

“The interior has undergone a true revolution, with a considerable improvement in perceived quality, greater sophistication and technology,” claims Renault Senior Vice President Laurens van den Acker.

The exterior design, which will be revealed on Tuesday, is said to be more of an evolution however, with Renault admitting that it’s best to stick to ‘mature’ a winning formula than reinvent the wheel in that regard.

“Designed according to the ‘Evolution and Revolution’ principle, the all-new Clio rewrites the rule book with more mature body styling and an entirely revamped interior. Featuring more sculpted lines and a more assertive front end, the new Clio gains in vitality and modernity while remaining instantly recognisable, despite the fact that it comprises 100% new parts.”

The new Clio is due in South Africa in late 2019 or early 2020.

Watch this space on Tuesday, January 29, for the Clio's exterior reveal.

New 2019 Renault Clio goes upmarket in first interior images

Renault reveals tech-laden Mk5 Clio, with quality and ease of use part of design boss's "interior revolution"

Renault has revealed the interior of its new, fifth-generation Clio, with the supermini's exterior design due to be unveiled tomorrow (29 January).

The Clio will distinguish itself from rivals by being one of the most technologically advanced models in its class when it launches at the Geneva motor show. The move is part of a bid by the French car maker to keep its supermini at the forefront of the sector, especially in the face of increasing competition from compact SUVs.

The exterior styling will be evolutionary, keeping elements such as rear door handles hidden in the door frames, albeit with a more grown-up look in line with the Mégane. It’s also expected to take design cues from the Symbioz concept car, shown last year.

The interior, though, is where the bigger changes take place. Renault design boss Laurens van den Acker accepts the firm “dramatically needed to improve perceived quality”, and reckons 70% of the time he spent with the new Clio was on its interior.

He accepts criticism of current Renault interiors, prompting his team to focus on material design and fit and finish. “That’s really where we’ve been criticised in the last few years, and we’re trying to create a very coherent concept," said van den Acker.

In the Clio 4, he says, “the hard plastic was in your face. Now what’s soft is close and what’s hard is far away. We’ve benchmarked against our competitors, but we’re reaching towards premium segment cars. Of course we have hard plastics but you don’t see them. That’s clever design and doesn’t cost anything.”

Thinner seats have increased rear leg room in this five-door-only model by 26mm, while the glovebox is bigger and the 330-391-litre boot is said to be the best in class.

“The interior is where the emphasis is,” said van den Acker, “but the difference between today and tomorrow is cars become smart.”

To this end, the Clio will be available with a 9.3in portrait-angled touchscreen, said to be inspired by that of the much larger and pricier Espace (not sold in the UK). There's also a 10.0in digital insrument binnacle that can display sat-nav instructions.

However, van den Acker claims the interior will be easier to use than the outgoing car, with things like temperature control returning to dashboard buttons.

“The Clio 4 instrument cluster was rich on decoration but not information,” he said. “Designers like the idea of getting rid of buttons because Apple takes buttons away. But in a smartphone you’re concentrating and in a car you’re doing 120kph. It takes maturity to accept that it’s common sense.”

I'll be very interested to see the outside. For me the 4th Gen was sexy as hell and a big step up in the range. This interior looks stylish and slick - with great features (probably most would be top of the range stuff)

Indeed, let's see if they can improve on that.

It's in the video, looks like a mini Mégane.

This will probably going to replace my current Clio IV in a few years time, hopefully in GT Line if not RS...

That interior looks fantastic.

I hope they can match or improve on the Clio IV design, because even the Clio IV competition has never managed to quite match it on looks, and the face-lift Clio IV with LEDs all round really just took it to a new level.
