Audi Presents: An Avant Story - Audi USA

Such fervent devotion, even after 25 years of waiting, is something we celebrate together. Now our time has come. Everything begins with a dream, and what happens next is up to you.

Wait, what? New Audi RS6 Avant rendered as a bakkie (and a sedan)

A digital artist has created a render effectively transforming the new Audi RS6 Avant into a high-performance, single-cab bakkie.

X-Tomi Design took Ingolstadt's recently revealed super-wagon, removed the rear quarters and added what looks to be a fairly useful load-bay.

While the digital artist no doubt used the Chevrolet El Camino as a source of inspiration (the latter was, of course, a pick-up adapted from a station-wagon platform), we can’t help but see some Chevrolet Lumina Ute in the overall proportions. That bright green paintwork probably also has something to do with it.

Under the RS6’s bonnet you’ll find a twin-turbo 4,0-litre V8 petrol engine (complete with a mild-hybrid system) churning out a whopping 441 kW and 800 N.m, directed to all four corners. And that’d make for one rapid bakkie.

Of course, the chances of Audi ever putting such a vehicle into production are virtually zero. However, X-Tomi Design has also dreamt up an RS6 sedan, which while rather unlikely, is still within the realm of possibility.

Here's Every Generation Of The Glorious Audi RS6 Avant

For a very long time, the Audi RS6 Avant was the forbidden fruit of wagon nerds in North America. It was the bitchin’ German battle-wagon that we could only eye enviously from across the Atlantic. Here’s a walk through them all, right up to the 2020 RS6 Avant, which we can finally have.

The always-delightful Cars Evolution uploaded a new video yesterday, showing us every generation of the RS6 Avant since its birth in 2002 until now. To date, I’ll hold that the V10-powered RS6 Avants were some of the coolest wagons ever made. Who stuffs a V10 into a station wagon, anyways? Crazy people!

What’s extremely fun is that you also get to hear each car’s engine note. The V10 could have been a little more burbly for me, but the V8s sounded absolutely ace, especially in the later generations.

2020 Audi RS6 Avant performance estate shown in Frankfurt

Five hot new Audis will follow in the 591bhp wake of the super estate later this year

Audi Sport has shown the fourth-generation RS6 Avant, which features a 591bhp mild-hybrid twin-turbo V8 and will spearhead a major RS range expansion, at the Frankfurt motor show.

The hot estate is one of six new Audi Sport models due this year, including the RSQ3 and RSQ8 SUVs, which have been spied testing recently. But the flurry of launches kicks off with the latest high-performance Audi estate, extending a lineage dating back to the first RS model, the 80-based RS2 Avant, which was introduced 25 years ago.

Audi Hints Future “Performance” RS 6 And RS 7 To Be Plug-In Hybrids

The new Audi RS 6 Avant and RS 7 Sportback pack 591 horses (441 kW) which is plenty grunt for most individuals but in this crazy world of uber-high-performance luxury cars, there is no such thing as too much power.

We just mentioned that the next-gen RS 4 will receive a plug-in hybrid powertrain but it sounds like the “Performance” variants of the above-mentioned machines could get a substantial power hike thanks to the same plug-in hybrid treatment.

At a roundtable with US media, Audi Sport co-managing director Oliver Hoffman said “In the future, we will have plug-in hybrid technology in our RS portfolio,” adding that they would represent a step beyond the basic RS cars. He didn’t say which RS models would go plug-in, but it’s fair to guess that the RS 6 and RS 7 will get the treatment.
