Rospa International expands offerings with Chevrolet Corvette in South Africa

In an exciting development for car enthusiasts in South Africa, Rospa International is expanding its renowned portfolio of rare sportscars to include the iconic Chevrolet Corvette.

Known for providing automotive dream machines mostly sourced from Japan—like the legendary Nissan Skyline GT-R, the drift-ready Toyota AE86, and the beloved Mazda RX-7—Rospa is now venturing beyond its typical Japanese Domestic Market (JDM) offerings.

“People usually think of JDM cars when they hear the name Rospa. But we’re expanding the business to cater for car enthusiasts with different tastes. We want to bring all the forbidden fruit to SA,” said company founder Himal Chris Paul.

“We are proud to announce that we are now offering Chev Corvettes to local enthusiasts.”

Since the launch of the eighth generation Corvette (C8), this iconic nameplate has been available in right-hand-drive configuration straight from the factory, allowing Rospa International to supply brand new cars directly to local clients.

Rospa will be offering two distinct derivatives of the Corvette: the 'entry-level' Stingray and the high-performance Z06. This diversity ensures that there’s something for every type of performance enthusiast.

“When most people think of a Corvette, they think it’s just one derivative. But the Corvette is similar to the Porsche 911 in that there are many versions from base Carrera all the way to GT2 RS. Even if they look similar, they aren’t,” explained Paul.

“We are offering the Stingray, which is powered by a 6.2-litre, naturally aspirated V8. It may be entry level, but it packs almost 370 kW, and it’s available in three trim levels: 1LT, 2LT, and 3LT, each with increasing levels of comfort and tech.”

For those with a taste for extreme performance, the Z06 is the highlight of Rospa's new offerings.

Say a cheery good day to the Chevrolet Corvette E-Ray, which will arrive in the UK in September wearing a £153,440 sticker for the coupe, or a £159,230 tag for the convertible.

It'll also wear a mid-mounted, nat-asp 6.2-litre small-block V8 sending 475bhp and 452lb ft of torque to the rear wheels, and an electric-motor bolted onto the front axle for AWD. That motor is powered by a 1.9kWh battery sitting comfortably between the seats, allowing for an extra 159bhp and 122lb ft. As such, the E-Ray can be driven at up to 44mph in EV-only mode, and even has an Active Fuel Management system that shuts off half the cylinders for improved efficiency.

But that’s not really why you buy a Corvette, is it? The combined total outputs are as follows: 634bhp, 574lb ft, 0-62mph in 2.9s and a top speed of 183mph. In short, it’ll be the quickest-ever Corvette to be officially sold in the UK. Unless Chevy decides to unleash the mad ZR1X over here.

The E-Ray gets a fancy set of Brembo carbon ceramic brakes, magnetic suspension with up to three settings, and Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres wrapped around a choice of 20 or 21in alloy wheels.
