One-of-one Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X sold for over R40 million at auction

A one-of-one Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has been sold at Barrett-Jackson’s 2026 Scottsdale Auction for over R40 million, with all proceeds going to charity.

The hammer has dropped on a one-of-one Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X at Barrett-Jackson’s 2026 Scottsdale Auction, where it was sold for a whopping $2.6 million, or R41 718 687 at the current Rand-Dollar exchange rate. All proceeds will be donated to Tunnel to Towers Foundation, an organisation that provides mortgage-free homes to Gold Star and fallen first responder families with young children, and housing for homeless military veterans.

The bespoke Corvette ZR1X forms part of Chevrolet’s ‘Stars & Steel’ collection, which celebrates the US’s 250th anniversary. The winning bid was placed by Rick Hendrick, Chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group and owner of Hendrick Motorsports. The official delivery will take place at the GM Design Dome, marking the first time General Motors has handed over a Corvette at this venue. Hendrick will also have the opportunity to participate in the exclusive ‘Build Your Own Engine’ experience, where he will personally assemble the ZR1X’s LT7 powerplant.

The pinnacle Corvette’s 5.5-litre twin-turbocharged V8 is coupled with a front-mounted electric motor, fed by a 1.9 kWh lithium-ion battery. The petrol-electric unit produces a combined system output of 932 kW and a tyre-shredding 1 122 N.m of torque, delivered to an electrified all-wheel drivetrain via an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.
