As ever with mild hybrids, they don’t redefine the sector, but they do help to finesse the fuel economy figures. It’s the same with the Kuga.
This is not a vehicle that company car buyers will rush out for, but as your average family wagon, it works well. It would certainly be near the top of our shopping list.

Ford Equator Sport revealed as upscaled Kuga with new turbo engine
The Ford Equator Sport has been unveiled as an exclusive product for the Chinese market but it debuts a supposedly all-new turbocharged 1,5-litre four-pot EcoBoost engine that could see its way into international products.
Built in conjunction with JMC, the Ford Equator Sport is not based on the seven-seater Equator that was unveiled in March this year. Overall, this crossover measures 2 765 mm long. Standard external features consist of a set of LED headlamps with DRLs, 20-inch alloy wheels and an LED strip taillamp.
Under the bonnet of this crossover you’ll find a new turbopetrol 1,5-litre four-cylinder unit that delivers 127 kW and 260 N.m of torque which is sent to the wheels via an automatic transmission. Performance figures for this model have not been detailed other than the top speed of 180 km/h.

Updated Ford Kuga rendered based on recent spy pics
The facelift for the Ford Kuga, which is due to be officially revealed sometime next year, has been digitally rendered based on a series of recent spy pictures of the car testing under camouflage. The rendition boasts the brand’s modern design language with bolder and sleeker cues.
As penned by Kolesa in Vignale spec, the upcoming Ford Kuga has been styled with a bold trapezoidal 3D-design grille, slim LED headlamps and an X-shaped bumper incorporating air intakes and a very slight anti-scuff plate. The profile of the crossover remains rather modest with the usual high-roof design but a unique set of lines have been applied to the lower end of the doors.

Ford Kuga drops diesel option due to falling sales
Ford Focus is now brand's only passenger car available with a diesel, as Kuga crossover goes petrol-only
Ford has axed diesel powertrain options for the Kuga midsize SUV claiming demand has shifted to petrol and hybrid powertrains.
The Kuga is the second Ford model to lose its diesel engine in recent years, following the diesel Fiesta which was dropped in 2020.
It was previously available with a choice of a 1.5- or 2.0-litre Ecoblue diesel engines producing up to 187bhp. The Kuga now instead offers full hybrid and plug-in options alongside Ford’s 1.5-litre Ecoboost petrol engine.
“The petrol, full-hybrid and petrol plug-in are the future and where the demand is,” a spokesperson for Ford told Autocar. "This move simplifies Kuga’s powertrain line-up to help customers understand and navigate increasing electrified engine options."
Just 10% of Kuga sales were diesel, whereas hybrid and petrol options are increasingly popular choices.
The change means the only Ford passenger car to retain a diesel engine is the Focus, while the Fiesta, Ecosport, Puma, Kuga, Mondeo, S-Max and Galaxy use either petrol or hybrid powertrains.

Over in Cambodia, Ford has provided a glimpse of the all-new Territory. One look and you’ll recognize how it’s basically a rebadged Equator Sport. This could well be a preview of what sort of next-gen Territory we’ll be getting in ASEAN.

Upon checking Ford Cambodia’s website, however, there seems to be no information about this new Territory just yet. That said, we know from the Equator Sport’s global debut that it packs a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine that produces 170hp and 260Nm of torque. That’s a huge jump from the current Territory’s 141hp, 225Nm 1.5-liter powertrain.

In other aspects, like the interior, Cambodia’s new Territory should also get a plusher and more premium cabin with a plethora of black and blue trim. Of course, it’ll still get five seats, unlike its bigger Equator sibling.

Ford Escape (Kuga) Could Follow The EcoSport To The Grave

Admittedly, it isn't our favorite Ford.
Sales of the Ford Escape declined by almost 20% in 2021 in the United States, although the SUV still managed to crack the list of the top 25 best-selling models in the country. Much of that decline can be attributed to the arrival of the more rugged Bronco Sport. The Escape still fills an important space within Ford's lineup as a softer crossover that competes with the likes of the Honda HR-V. But it appears that the Escape might be on the way out soon based on comments made by Ford CEO Jim Farley at the recent Bernstein Strategic Decisions Conference.

Farley was speaking about the company's separate Ford Model e (focused on electric models) and Ford Blue (focused on conventionally powered models) divisions when he dropped the hint about the Escape's potential demise. "The first step is you cannot ask everyone to do everything," said Farley. "You have to say: Blue team, be the cash cow. You heard it in our video. Our job is to fund the future. And we're going to have passion brands; we're not going to have commodity products like Edges and Escapes. Mustangs and Broncos… good stuff."
As we reported in August last year, the Ford Edge and Lincoln Nautilus are going to be scrapped after 2023. The fact that Farley mentioned the Escape and the Edge in the same breath is indeed a sign that the former could follow the EcoSport and exit this market.

While we like the Escape's wide range of engine choices and generous safety specification, there are a few factors that hold it back from shining as brightly as other Fords like the Bronco and F-150. The Escape's cabin is let down by some hard plastics in places, base models feel rather spartan, and the base engine is a disappointment. It doesn't help that the newer Bronco Sport starts at under $2,000 less. All of these factors, together with Farley's latest comments, lead us to believe that the Escape won't be around for much longer. If it's the Ford crossover you must have, the time to buy one is now.
Farley's comments also suggest that combustion power will stick around for enthusiast vehicles for as long as possible, while the boring, everyday stuff will be handled by EVs. We don't see anything wrong with that.

The facelifted Ford Kuga, due to arrive in the UK next season, will get a new front end and an updated infotainment system.
The revised look, spotted on a testing mule in the US, includes angular LED headlights and a reduced front grille featuring central Ford badging. This brings the SUV's styling into line with the recently updated Ford Focus and Ford Fiesta hatchbacks.
The only Ford yet to receive this treatment is the popular Ford Puma crossover, which is likely to receive a facelift to coincide with the launch of the electric version in 2024.

The styling is the biggest and most obvious update. It’s not as cute as it was before, which is a good thing. The redesigned front facia comes across as more grown-up and handsome. Aside from the new grille and headlights, some models can be equipped with a full-width light bar that Ford describes as running from “coast to coast.” It’s reminiscent of the light bar seen on Mercury models in the 1990s, but slimmed down to a narrow LED strip.
Inside is more or less the same as the previous model, but Ford has updated the interior with new materials for an upscale feel on certain trims. The Escape is also jumping on the big-screen wagon with an available 13.2-inch landscape-oriented touchscreen that runs Ford’s cloud-based SYNC 4 operating system.
