Mazda SA to expand CX-30 line-up with new Carbon Edition in early 2022
• Mazda will expand its CX-30 with a new model in 2022.
• Called the Carbon Edition, it will slot in below the headlining Individual model.
• The Carbon Edition will be powered by the same 121kW 2.0-litre engine.
In the first quarter of 2022, Mazda South Africa will expand its CX-30 range with a new Carbon Edition model. Taking the line-up to four models, the Carbon Edition will slot between the Dynamic and headlining Individual models. It will also be powered by the same naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine (121kW/213Nm) that sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.
According to Mazda, the specification on the current line-up will remain unchanged. Still, the Carbon Edition will add, in addition to the Dynamic model it's based on, items like rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, auto paddle transmission switches, and smart advanced keyless entry. Differentiating features will include black cloth seating, red stitching throughout the cabin, black exterior mirrors, and black 18-inch alloy wheels.
The new model will be available in six colours: Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Machine Grey, Soul Red Crystal, Polymetal Grey, and Jet Black.
In our
review of the CX-30 earlier this year, we said: "The all-new Mazda CX-30 has to be one of the best vehicles we've ever driven from the Japanese automaker. Everything gels well to make it as comprehensively sound as possible - from its design to the interior layout to the engine and gearbox. During our tenure, the test team lauded it for being so profoundly different and refreshing, and we applaud Mazda for bringing such a youthful vehicle to market."
