ROAD TEST: Hyundai Creta vs. Mazda CX-30 vs. Nissan Qashqai vs. Peugeot 2008
TEST SUMMARY
Noughts and crosses drawn; our testers set down their pencils. Outwitted by its rivals, the Qashqai was relegated to fourth place. Even if the foundations of what makes a commendable crossover can still be found in the Nissan, the veteran’s playbook lacked fresh strategies. The third-generation model due for local introduction before the year is out should set the record straight.
Vying for second place, the contest between the Hyundai and Mazda endured the longest, with the CX-30 managing to best the Creta, sneaking in one final cross at the end. The Creta remains an admirable offering but its relaxed approach fell short of the Mazda’s dynamism. The CX-30 remains an expensive offering with an asking price that is perhaps uncomfortably close to the similarly specced CX-5.
Which leaves us with the 2008 which outsmarted all-comers with a well-rounded strategy. The Peugeot’s playbook is the most comprehensive, comprising every conceivable play to outsmart the segment’s best. The only crossover tested here to receive a four-star rating, the 2008 is deserving of every accolade bestowed upon it.

Nearly-new buying guide: Mazda CX-30
If you’re going to submit to an SUV, at least make it a quirky one
his handsome Mazda fits between the CX-3 crossover and CX-5 large SUV, yet it isn’t called the CX-4. What’s in a name, after all? You see, the purpose of the CX-30 is very clear, even if its identity isn’t: to offer all the good qualities of those two cars in a more modern family SUV-sized package. And by and large, it succeeds in that purpose admirably well.
As you would expect from Mazda, there are some interesting engines to choose from. It gives you a choice of two 2.0-litre petrol engines, both of which lack turbocharging but use mild-hybrid technology, with a small electric motor and battery working together to improve fuel efficiency and engine response at low speeds.
Both engines come with a six-speed manual gearbox as standard, plus there’s an optional six-speed automatic. The more powerful engine also opens up the option of four-wheel drive.
There are five trim levels to choose from for your CX-30: SE-L, SE-L Lux, Sport Lux, GT Sport and GT Sport Tech. All are well equipped, with automatic lights and wipers, adaptive cruise control, air conditioning and a head-up display the absolute minimum.

To expand on the current range, the Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition has been added which brings with it a dynamic new styling kit and extra standard features. This new addition will slot in under the flagship Individual trim.
Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition is said to benefit from a generous level of specification, with standard features like rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, steering-mounted paddle shifters and advanced keyless entry.
Making it a Carbon Edition is the red finish appearance as well as black cloth seating. Red stitching is applied to the IP-upper, console lid, door arm rest, door trip middle, knee pads and seats. The trim also boasts a set of black door mirrors and 18-inch alloy wheels.
With the introduction of the Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition, the brand will also be introducing a Platinum Quarts colour to the range.

Taking the line-up to four models, the Carbon Edition will slot between the Dynamic and headlining Individual models. It will also be powered by the same naturally aspirated 2.0-litre petrol engine (121kW/213Nm) that sends power to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic gearbox.
According to Mazda, the specification on the current line-up will remain unchanged. Still, the Carbon Edition will add, in addition to the Dynamic model it's based on, items like rear parking sensors, dual-zone climate control, auto paddle transmission switches, and smart advanced keyless entry. Differentiating features will include black cloth seating, red stitching throughout the cabin, black exterior mirrors, and black 18-inch alloy wheels.
The new model will be available in six colours: Snowflake White Pearl, Sonic Silver, Machine Grey, Soul Red Crystal, Polymetal Grey, and Jet Black.

The Mazda CX-30 range is set to expand in early 2022 with the introduction of a new Carbon Edition model, which gains a few sporty interior and exterior features.
Following in the footsteps of the Mazda CX-5 Carbon Edition that was introduced earlier this year, the new Mazda CX-30 derivative will be positioned between the midrange Dynamic and flagship Individual models.
Mazda SA hasn’t mentioned pricing as yet, but given that the CX-30 Dynamic currently retails at R499 000, the Carbon Edition is likely to find itself somewhere in the early 500s.
But what sets it apart? The Mazda CX-30 Carbon Edition gains a set of 18-inch black alloy wheels as well as black exterior mirrors. Customers will get to choose from six exterior colours: Soul Red Crystal, Machine Grey, Sonic Silver, Polymetal Grey, Snowflake White Pearl and Jet Black.
Inside the Carbon Edition you’ll find black cloth seat trim as well as red stitching on the seats, door trims, upper instrument panel and console lid.

I don’t know how I missed this one, only saw it for the first time this morning in traffic and I was like what the hell is that, had to Google it when I got to work. I blame it on lazy/non marketing from Mazda.

I assume you mean it has been available here for a while but we don't see any big mentioned of it.
It is such a hot seller in Aussie land but locally not so mostly due to poor marketing, pricing is high for what it is & lastly the local range is a bit limited.

Yap, First time i saw it on the highway i actually thought it was a facelifted CX3, When i got to work i had to google and only then did i realize its a whole brand new car. I never see ads anywhere and have only seen 2 of these cars on the road.
