New £250k Range Rover kick starts new era for SV arm

SVO division targets Bentley Mulliner in a bid to boost company's profits for future model development

This new £250,000 Range Rover signals Jaguar Land Rover's intent to shake up the bespoke market, with a new-look Special Vehicle Operations (SVO) division gunning for Bentley Mulliner and Rolls-Royce Bespoke.

It has become the latest company to offer custom-made vehicles, following record income from rivals using a similar model. Bentley broke its 2021 profit record by July 2022, which it put down to a rise in personalisations requests.

JLR hopes this will boost overall profits for the development of future models following a torrid time, having at the end of 2022 posted its first profitable quarter since 2020 on the back of rising sales of its Range Rover line-up, especially in the US.

A customer agency approach is now being favoured by SVO, meaning it deals with customers directly rather than through dealerships.

The Range Rover SV Lansdowne Edition, launched today, is limited to just 16 examples, with every one designed to be unique. All of the cars, which each carry a number stamp, have already been sold.

The SV Lansdowne Edition gets a number of bespoke options, including exclusively commissioned Lansdowne Grey Gloss paint, accented with what Land Rover calls “unique design details”; 23in alloy wheels finished in satin black with grey inserts; and chrome detailing on the front and rear bumpers.

The new Range Rover SV 'Lansdowne Edition' is a £250k luxury SUV

Just 16 of these leviathans will be built. And to nobody's surprise, they're all sold out

Land Rover has unveiled a new limited-edition Rangie, retailing for a charming £250,000. The Range Rover SV Lansdowne Edition is the latest model of the award-winning SUV and only 16 examples are available. Well, were available.

The launch event didn’t even need to be a success, beecause all pre-order slots were filled ahead of the do at Stratstone’s fancy Mayfair dealership. So what was so exciting about the Lansdowne Edition? Built by SV Bespoke, part of Landie’s Special Vehicle Operations division, this limited edition model is a UK-only special. It features Land Rover’s P530 V8 engine, a direct injection 4.4-litre bi-turbo mild hybrid with all-wheel-drive, a top speed of 155mph, 553lb ft of torque and a combined power of 523bhp.

Each of the 16 Range Rover SV Lansdowne Edition cars feature a unique spec. We’re not going to list all 16 specs here…could make for a boring read, but we can give you the luxurious highlights they all get. Such as the exclusive ‘Lansdowne Grey gloss’ exterior - commissioned specifically for this edition - complemented by the rich, warm brown of the ‘Rosewood’ and ‘Ebony’ interior.

Yikes, here's what Mansory wants to do to the clean lines of your new Range Rover

Mansory's latest striking kit is available to HSE, Vogue and Autobiography drivers

Customisation outfit Mansory has released info on its new Range Rover refinement programme, which is a very polite way of saying: "Good grief, look what Mansory has done to the new Range Rover!"

With a raft of new aero addendums, carbon fibre styling flicks, a performance pack and interior accessories (or a total interior overhaul, if the mood takes you), the component switches are the epitome of complete extravagance.

Now, the new Range Rover is a car that has scored well in TG testing thanks to its exterior design, incredible cabin comfort and impressive swathe of technology. So frankly you'd think that there wouldn't be too much that Mansory could do to improve on the standard car. And you'd be right. But then, some people just love to stand out from the crowd, don't they?

Accustomed to Mansory’s usually outrageously bold revisions, the Range Rover options initially seem pretty low-key and subtle, although once you've looked closely at that carbon bonnet, the widebody arches and the HUGE 24-inch wheels, any thoughts of subtlety really will have gone out the window. And just check out that giant rear bumper and diffuser combo. The standard Range Rover's clean lines are no more.

Mansory Got Their Mits On The New Range Rover

Mansory is back and this time the sleek new Range Rover is the target.

The aftermarket tuner has dubbed it the Range Rover refinement programme but it certainly does not look very refined if you ask us.

In typical Mansory style, the SUV has been kitted with a host of new aero addendums, carbon fibre styling flicks, a performance pack and interior upgrades.

The stand-out features include a new carbon hood complete with a plethora of vents, some massive 24-inch aero wheels and the rather radical spoiler and diffuser at the rear. If you ask us, these all ensure that the refined clean lines of the regular car are no more.

The performance packs are simple plug-in items for the ECUs and can add up to 94 hp (70 kW) and 153 Nm (113 lb-ft) of torque to your chosen Rangie’s powertrain.

Orders to open for battery-electric Range Rover later this year

Land Rover's first electric car edges closer to launch; promises to embody "true Range Rover values"

Orders for the battery-electric Range Rover will open later this year ahead of the car going on sale by the end of 2024.

It will be the first electric Land Rover from JLR (the new official name for Jaguar Land Rover) and will be built at the Solihull production facility in the Midlands.

Like its donor car, the Range Rover EV will be based on the MLA platform, which supports both hybridised ICE and fully electric powertrains.

Few other technical details of the car that JLR bills as the “world’s first electric luxury SUV” have been revealed, however.

JLR’s vehicle programme director Nick Collins said it would “deliver true Range Rover values”, including “off-road ability, usability, and refinement” in an “uncompromised” approach.

He added: “It will be a benchmark for refined luxury and a testament for what this brand will create.”

The MLA platform will spawn other EVs in the future as part of JLR’s pledge to have an electric model under each of its four brands (Range Rover, Discovery, Defender and Jaguar) by 2026, an electric model in each of its model ranges by 2030 and for every car it sells to be electric by 2036.
