New Renault Megane E-Tech Electric teased ahead of 2022 launch

Bold electric crossover, Renault's first model on new bespoke EV platform, due to go into production later this year

Renault has released new teaser images of the Mégane E-Tech Electric, the firm’s first dedicated electric SUV, which is set to go on sale next year.

The French manufacturer revealed the boldly styled machine in concept form last year, with company boss Luca de Meo promising it was “95% what the production car will look like”. The concept was called the Mégane eVision, but a new release from Renault shows that it will take the E-Tech Electric name, using the sub-brand that encompasses all of the firm's electrified cars.

The three teaser images include a close-up shot of the car's rear, showcasing Renault's new retro-styled logo. The other two interior shots focus on showing the large, vertically mounted central touchscreen, along with the digital information display.

The production styling of the Mégane E-Tech Electric – which is unrelated to the existing Mégane saloon and estate – was previously seen in spy shots of the Volkswagen ID 4 rival testing on public roads. Although the machine is wrapped in a camouflage livery, the narrow front headlights can be seen, and the machine also sits on large wheels. The cover of the electric charging port is also visible on the passenger-side A-pillar.

The side profile shows the crossover styling of the car, which de Meo said at the launch is intended to “reinvent the classical hatchback in an emotional way”

Renault vows to become 'greenest car brand in Europe'

Firm will put focus on sustainability and new technology as part of bold revival plan

Renault boss Luca de Meo claims the firm will become the “greenest brand in Europe” by 2030, promising that nine of 10 cars it sells will feature an electrified powertrain.

The French firm has placed a focus on sustainability and new technology as part of its plans to revive the brand under de Meo’s ‘Renaulution’ growth strategy.

Speaking during a Renault Talks online presentation, de Meo said the “success of the group’s turnaround depends heavily on our ability to reposition the brand for sustainable mobility.” He didn't give specifics on how Renault would become the 'greenest' car firm. Several rivals, such as Volvo, have pledged to become EV-only by 2030, whereas Renault's strategy is a mix of electrified and electric models, depending on market demand.

The push into sustainability is at the heart of the firm’s 'nouvelle vague’ focus, which, de Meo said, was vital to helping revive Renault’s fortunes in the higher-value C- and D-segments.

“This is our way of interpreting modernity,” said de Meo. “More value in our cars, and more value in how we do it. I have a feeling history is coming to us. Society is embracing values that are close to the history of Renault.”

Highlighting Renault’s history of producing both small, practical cars and electric vehicles such as the Zoe, de Meo added: “We are a warm and human brand. We have everything in our DNA to equal what the world is looking for: a more responsible, sober shared model after decades of fast fashion and over-consumption.

“The good news is that we are starting many races if not in pole position, then on the front row of the grid.”

The firm its currently expanding its range of E-Tech hybrid and plug-in hybrid vehicles. The current Clio E-Tech hybrid and Captur and Mégane estate plug-in hybrids will be joined this year by hybrid versions of the new Arkana SUV coupé and the Captur, and the saloon version of the Mégane PHEV.

Renault is also developing a new 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine that can be used as the basis for a 197bhp hybrid and 276bhp four-wheel-drive plug-in hybrid. Due to arrive in 2024, the new powertrain will be offered on Renault models in the upper segment, particularly the C-SUV sector.

Renault will also launch the Mégane E-Tech Electric crossover later this year, when it will join the Zoe in the firm’s EV line-up.

Megane EV teased as Renault aims to be Europe’s greenest brand

Renault is not just launching a new logo – the French carmaker is aiming to be the greenest brand in Europe by 2030, by when it hopes that nine out of every 10 cars it sells will be electrified.

In fact seven new electrified models in the C and D segments are scheduled to hit showroom floors by 2025, and these include the new Megane E-Tech Electric crossover that will rival Volkswagen’s ID.4 and perhaps eventually replace the Megane as we know it today.

Renault gave us a glimpse of the upcoming battery Megane at an all-digital conference held this week. The teaser pics show us the rear styling as well as parts of the screen-dense cabin, which features a digital instrument cluster that flows into a large vertical centre screen.

The Megane E-Tech Electric will take much of its inspiration from the Megane eVision concept that was revealed last year. Due later in 2021, the electric crossover will be the first Renault vehicle to ride on the company’s new CMF-EV modular architecture that was purpose-designed for battery vehicles. This platform also underpins the new Nissan Ariya.

New 2022 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric is 280-mile EV SUV

Renault's first electric crossover shown in production guise for the first time ahead of 2021 debut

Renault's radical Mégane eVision concept is destined for series production in 2022 as the Mégane E-Tech Electric - the French firm's second mainstream passenger EV.

The production-ready car has now been revealed in camouflaged prototype guise ahead of a full public debut later this year. The model shown is the first of 30 identically liveried test cars which will be used for advanced development trials on public roads beginning in summer.

As expected, the final car - which Renault also refers to as the MéganE (pronounced Mégane-E) - stays true to the overall silhouette of the original concept but loses some of the more outlandish styling elements.

Proportions are largely shared with Alliance partner Nissan's new Ariya SUV, with which the Mégane shares its CMF-EV platform and powertrain, though Renault's SUV has a straighter roof line and less aggressive design cues.

Renault has confirmed that, like the concept, the Peugeot e-2008 rival will use a 215bhp electric motor on the front axle and take its power from a 60kWh under-floor battery pack good for 280 miles of WLTP range.

Renault Megane E-Tech Electric previewed in pre-production-guise

A pre-production variant of the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric has been revealed in anticipation of the road-going all-electric C-segment hatchback. First previewed in concept-guise at Renault eWays in 2020, the French EV has now been confirmed for an on-the-road debut.

When it arrives, the production-ready Renault Megane E-Tech Electric will enhance the brand’s current line-up of fully electric cars which currently consists of the Zoe E-Tech and Twizy quadricycle in its passenger offerings and Kangoo and Master E-Tech vans in its commercial catalogue.

The French brand confirms that the Renault Megane E-Tech Electric will be based on the advanced CMF-EV platform and feature a 160 kW and 300 N.m e-motor with a 60 kWh battery back which will be good for a 450 km range on a single charge, based on the WLTP standards.

The new model, which will also be referred to as the MéganE (which will be pronounced “Mégane e”), will start to reveal its final design as a fleet of 30 pre-production cars will be driven on open roads this summer by Renault engineers.

Renault's All-new Mégane E-TECH Electric is the first of its Generation 2.0 electric vehicles and marks the beginning of a new chapter of the electric revolution started some 10 years ago. Connected to and integrated into the EV ecosystem and the digital world of its users, the All-new Mégane E-TECH Electric symbolises the beginning of Renault wining background in the compact vehicle market (C-segment). The Mégane of the future is already here!

THE FRUIT OF INCOMPARABLE EXPERTISE

Building on more than ten years of expertise in designing, manufacturing, marketing, and maintaining electric vehicles, Renault's launch of the All-new Mégane E-TECH Electric marks a major shift in gears for its electric revolution. Since ZOE Concept was first introduced in 2010 to the sale of ZOE ZE50 in 2019, Renault has consistently improved its energy management capabilities to the point it can now guarantee a range of 395km in WLTP cycle. While ZOE is the definition of versatility for a urban car, the range has since grown to satisfy all uses: micro-mobility with Twizy, last-mile delivery with Kangoo E-TECH Electric and Master E-TECH Electric, and urban agility with the recent addition of Twingo E-TECH Electric.

Renault has revealed the all-new Megane E-Tech Electric

Renault's fully-electric family hatchback gets its mainstream badge - read the full story here

Here's the new Renault Megane. The kicker: it's all electric.

While VW kept kept the name Golf for piston cars and added the ID.3 electric car, Renault has decided to stick its mainstream badge onto the battery car. It's a critical symbolic step.

Renault has good reason to be confident in the EV future. It has been selling Zoes for a decade, and they've run up 6 billion miles, their battery data feeding back to HQ. Renault knows electric tech, and it knows electric drivers and how to reassure them, and it knows how to sell electric cars.

The Megane is an all-new platform. It'll be shared only with electric cars, including the Ariya crossover from partner Nissan. In about the same overall size as the existing Megane hatch, it finds more space because of a longer wheelbase.

The battery is just 110mm thick, so it's more of a hatch than a crossover. You don't sit any higher than in the petrol Megane.

For now, the Megane will come with a choice of two front-drive motors, 130bhp and 220bhp. They run off a choice of two batteries, 40kWh or 60kWh (220bhp only). Those are the useable capacities, by the way, not the gross max. That translates into WLTP range figures of 186 miles and 294 miles. The 220bhp will get to 62mph in 7.4sec.

Renault's experience says that many people end up never rapid-charging their cars, but do it on 7kW AC overnight. So a base model Megane will come with no DC input. But in Britain most will be DC-capable, and it can take 130kW, adding 190 miles WLTP range (call it 150 motorway miles) in half an hour.

New 2022 Renault Megane E-Tech Electric brings 292-mile range

Electric SUV will spearhead Renaulution transformation plan with long range and circa-£30,000 list price

Renault has peeled the covers off the Mégane E-Tech Electric, a 292-mile family EV that that will play a crucial role in its bold Renaulution transformation strategy, at Munich motor show.

Built in Douai in Northern France, where the aim is to produce 400,000 EVs per year, the Peugeot e-2008 rival features a skateboard-style battery arrangement and is the first Renault to run on the Alliance's CMF-EV platform, following the Nissan Ariya.

The brand is hoping to build on the electric success it has enjoyed with the Zoe: since that car was launched a decade ago, one in five Renaults sold in Europe has been electric.

The E-Tech comes with a choice of two power outputs for the electric motor (128bhp and 215bhp) and two battery sizes (40kWh and 60kWh). Claimed range is 186 and 292 miles respectively, while the quickest variant will manage 0-62mph in 7.4sec.

With the optional 130kW DC charging, it’s possible to charge the battery from 15-80% in 30 minutes. Towing up to 900kg is also possible.

With a multi-link rear axle, a MacPherson-strut front arrangement and a faster steering rack, the Mégane E-Tech Electric promises best-in-class handling.

Renault Megane Electric SUV – FIRST LOOK & walkaround – Chic EV coming in 2022 | batchreviews

Meet the new Megane E-Tech Electric, an EV SUV that'll sit alongside the Zoe and the existing Megane hatchback and estate.

It's VW ID.3/4 sized, has a range of up to 292 miles and debuts a number of new features for Renault including a Google operating system.

Renault Megane E-Tech unveiled as stylish electric crossover

The Renault Megane E-Tech has been revealed in production guise at the IAA show in Munich, and it’s set to take the fight to Volkswagen’s ID.4.

Built around the Alliance’s CMF-EV platform that also underpins the Nissan Ariya, the newcomer doesn’t replace the current internal combustion engined Megane hatch, at least not for now, but will serve as a battery-powered alternative.

Given the market’s shift towards SUVs, it’s no surprise that the Renault Megane E-Tech takes the form of a crossover rather than a hatchback. Its design remains faithful to the Megane eVision concept car that was revealed in 2019, and it also sports Renault's new ‘Nouvel'R’ logo.

The LG-sourced lithium-ion NMC battery is said to be the thinnest on the market, and this not only frees up interior room, but also lowers the centre of gravity by 90mm compared with the regular Megane. The 395kg battery is available in two guises, these being a 40kWh unit that allows for a range of just under 300km on the WLTP cycle, and a 60kWh option that’s said to enable 470km.

The cabin of the Renault Megane E-Tech is as screen-centric as you’d expect from a modern electric car and the driver is greeted by a large digital instrument cluster as well as a tablet-style vertical central touchscreen.

Renault Mégane E-Tech Electric unveiled at IAA Mobility Munich

With over 10 billion e-kilometres under the belt of 400 000 Renault EV’s globally, the French brand looks to expand their electric range with the introduction of the Mégane E-Tech. Said to merge “seamlessly with the digital ecosystem of its user” the vehicle offers a system called OpenR link which has been developed with Google and is based on Android Automotive OS. It also offers 26 Advanced Driver Assistance Systems, bringing innovative safety systems and driver aids to its segment.

Unveiled at IAA Munich Mobility, the Mégane E-Tech is the first of Renault’s new generation of electric vehicles to be based on their new CMF-EV platform, also showcasing their new ‘Sensual tech’ design language with the brand’s new ‘Nouvel’R’ logo.

Equipped with intelligent charging capabilities, the Mégane E-Tech will be able to feed power back into the grid when needed thanks to vehicle-to-grid (V2G) technology. Other innovations include its construction – its upholstery is made out of 100% recycled materials which depending on the version can account for up to 2,2 kg. Additionally, a total of 27,2 kg of visible and hidden parts are made out recycled plastics. As such, 95 per cent of the vehicle will be able to be recycled at the end of its life.

I wonder why so many EV's are going for this stretched, blobby raised-up hatchback look. ID3/4, now this etc.

I would assume besides the SUV look there could be technical reasons as well, all the electric bits tend to eat into the space, motors and bigger batteries for range, while they still have to make space for the boot, spare wheels and comfortable seating space.

It looks like the new direction, the only hatchbacks left will be the performance type, the cheaper ones and the nasty ones, everything else will be an SUV.
It's so disappointing really. I'm really not a fan of an SUV.

I love my current Megane and after a while I thought I'd probably get the next Megane when it comes out then I saw they are going the SUV type route and now I'm not so sure.
